The Musician's Sister

Kai has been wanting to make it big time in Nashville, but every other time he's played at whatever bar that will take him, he's been shot down because he's not good enough. Danie is Kai's sister, she like her brother has a dream of singing on the big stage.

*Kai's POV*

*Beep! Beep 'Play's HonkyTonk U after third beep'*

I slam my fist down on the snooze button. I throw the covers back and rub my eyes, then I sit up. I look at myself in the mirror and see that I'm in my jeans from last night. Eh, I'm decent enough, since it's just me here, I think to myself as I walk towards the kitchen.

I begin to sing the chorus of, 'Barefoot Blue Jean Night', "Whoa-oh, Never gonna grow up, Ha! Never gonna slow down, We were shinin' like lighters in the dark in the middle of a rock show. Whoa-oh, We were doing it right. Whoa-oh, We were coming alive, Whoa-oh Yeah, caught up in a Southern summer, barefoot blue jean night.".

I hear, "Well done, Kai.". I turn to find Danie leaning against the door in a pair of cut-offs and a tank top, with her long auburn hair in a messy bun. I say, "Oh hey, Danie.". She walks over to me and asks, "Think today will be the day?". I nod my head and say, "Maybe, it's getting old playing at Uncle Mike's bar.". Danie nods her head in agreement, then she cracks a smile.

"No, oh hell no, Danie!". She looks at me, with puppy dog eyes. I shake my head and sigh, "Fine, I'll do it.".

One Direction's 'What Makes You Beautiful' begins playing off of her iPod. I begin singing, "You're insecure, Don't know what for, You're turning heads when you walk through the door, Don't need make up, To cover up, Being the way that you are is enough...".

We both sing, "Everyone else in the room can see it, Everyone else but you, Baby you light up my world like nobody else, The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed, But when you smile at the ground it ain't hard to tell. You don't know, Oh, oh, You don't know your beautiful, If only you saw what I could see, You'd understand why I want you so desperately, Right now I'm looking at you and I can't believe, You don't know, Oh, oh,You don't know your beautiful,  Oh, oh, That's what makes you beautiful.".

Danie sings, "So c-come on, You got it wrong. To prove I'm right, I put it in a song. I don't know why, Your being shy, And turn away when I look into your eye-eye-eyes.". We both sing again, "Everyone else in the room can see it, Everyone else but you, Baby you light up my world like nobody else, The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed, But when you smile at the ground it ain't hard to tell.

She sings, "Na na na na na na na na na na, Na na na na na na.".

I sing, "Baby you light up my world like nobody else, The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed, But when you smile at the ground it ain't hard to tell." and Dani sings, "You don't know, Oh, oh,You don't know your beautiful.". Once more we sing, "Baby you light up my world like nobody else, The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed, But when you smile at the ground it ain't hard to tell. You don't know, Oh, oh, You don't know your beautiful (Oh), If only you saw what I could see, You'd understand why I want you so desperately (desperately), Right now I'm looking at you and I can't believe, You don't know, Oh, oh,You don't know your beautiful,  Oh, oh, You don't know your beautiful, Oh, oh....".

Danie finishes with, "That's what makes you beautiful.". I shake my head again and ask her, "Happy now?". She shakes her head 'yes' and the says, "I call dibs on the shower!". I shake my head a third time, just letting her go. I begin practicing that song again, why I don't know. About the seventh time I sing it I hear Danie ask, "I thought you hated that song?". I just laugh and head up to the shower myself.

After I shower, I'm sitting on my bed, practicing the song, 'Arlington', because it's nearly Memorial Day at our Uncle's bar and he usually does something for the veterans and their families. I hear Danie knock at my door.

"Come in, door's open.". Danie walks in and sits beside me, a worried look on her face. I immediately ask, "What's wrong?". She says, "Uncle Mike just called, he said that we both have to do a song for the special thing he's doing.". I close my eyes and lay back on the bed.

"You're doing Arlington, right?". I nod. She stays silent for a while until I say, "Til the last shot's fired." She stands up and says, "Excuse me? Come again.". I sit back up and say, "I'm singing Trace Adkins's 'Arlington'. Why don't you do his song, 'Til the last shot's fired'.".

She begins pacing and  then says, "I'll do it.". We both grin, this was going to be the best event Uncle Mike has ever thrown.
