Teen Writers' Magazine

I can't thank movellas enough for the opportunities and inspiration I've had since joining the site! In 2014 I managed to win a place in an amazing writing Masterclass (and private interview) with the bestselling author of the 'Uglies' series- Scott Westerfeld- when he came to London on a 2-day tour... a massive, massive thank you to movellas for that truly inspirational experience <3 We asked him as many of your questions as we could, so now I'm excited to reveal all the advice we managed to squeeze from what was genuinely one of the most exciting days of my life. This magazine also contains a bunch of other things to do with writing, reading and movellas. Ever wanted access to all of Movellas an secrets, top tips and guidance in one place? I hope this helps :D *I'd also like to give a big thanks to my wonderfully supportive and friendly movellians that have helped with this: HeartTaunter, Raven711, Writer_Girl, Jade.P and so many more! :)

6. Username Secrets Disclosed!

Hi everyone! I'm back with a new chapter about... usernames. Okay, I know what you're thinking, "What's there to be told about usernames?!!"

"What tips could possibly be given?"

"Grrrr! This is gonna be a pointless chapter, why did I even start reading it?"

Well, prepare to (hopefully :P ) be surprised!

Choosing the right username is more important than you might think, and you only get ONE chance to change your username if you don't like it. So I advise you to choose wisely! Here are the top tips that most movellians have probably thought of but haven't had a chance to share:

1. Choose something unique, that represents you. Avoid inappropriate usernames because, although you might think that it's cool or whatever, most movellians will be put off and not bother to read your profile/ movellas. You should also bear in mind that young kids can easily read your username, so you obviously want to make it appropriate for all ages to read. Your account is also likely to be deleted.

I'm tempted to put some examples, but if I did I'd have to change this movella from a Green rating to a Yellow/Red rating... which just shows you how highly inappropriate some people's usernames are.

2. Consider how easy it will be to tag your username. I, and I'm sure many other movellians, have experienced how annoying it is when you try to tag people and it takes FOREVER to be able to get their name to tag. This usually results in your name not being tagged, which not only means that people wont be able to click on your tagged username and be taken straight to your profile (e.g to read your movellas, resulting in you receiving more likes, favourites, reads, fans etc.) but it also means that you are unlikely to know that your name has been included.

So, what can you do to make your username easier to tag? Simple.

~Avoid symbols that are generally not found on the keyboard and therefore will be hard for other people to type e.g. hearts and stars. Of course, these look pretty and jazz up your username, so you can do this if you really want to, but just bear in mind that it might make people unable to tag you.

~Try not to make your username all long and hard to read e.g: katiethepoodlelovesyoubaeeee<3

3. Don't keep on changing your username or account for no reason. Again, this is just my opinion and of course, if you love changing your username then go ahead! However, from experience I know that it's usually better to stick with the same username because:

~When more and more people start reading your movellas, you become more popular and people get used to your username. Therefore, they might search for your movellas using your username and.... find nothing because you've changed it. They'll then have to spend ages tryng to find out what you've changed your username to, which is especially difficult if you've changed your profile pic too. For this reason, if you do change your username, I'd recommend that you mention "my username used to be..." to make it clear and easy for people to find the 'new you', in a sense.

~If you decide to re-publish a book from your old account to your new one, then people will think that you've copied it if they do not know that you are you, if you get what I mean ;)

~It's simply confusing. You get used to one person's account with the familiar username, but then find out that someone you thought was a new movellian was actually one of your fans that have changed their username!

So, that's it for now, but I'll be writing another chapter with new top top tips soon! I hope you did find this useful, please drop this movella a like/ favourite/ fan me if you did :D

Got some top tips you'd like to share? Write a mumble with the tips in and tag my username, Uniqua Niques, into it (don't worry, my username should be fairly easy to tag lol just remember the capital letters :P ) and I will then paste and publish your tips into this movella! And don't worry, I'll give you 100% credit for it, and drop you a like and fan too ;)

I hope you found this chapter useful, comment to tell me what you think! Obviously this was just my opinion, and of course wasn't meant to offend anyone or anything like that. If there's anything you'd like me to change, please don't hesitate to let me know in the comments section :)
