"Why would Jason want to kill Lily?" asked Chief Thomas.
"Probably because of what she was doing at night." I said
"Trust is a big thing for him and if he found out that Lily broke that trust, then maybe he killed her." said Henry.
"We need proof that he did kill her. The river would have washed any evidence on the body away, so you're going to have to get him to confess." said Chief Thomas.
"We can go talk to him." said Henry.
"No, I'll go myself." I said standing up.
"You sure?" asked Henry.
"James, you go down to the morgue and hope they may have found something, but like I said, there is a very slim chance they did." said Chief.
"Alright." said Henry heading out.
I started to head out, but the Chief stopped me.
"Wait for a minute, Liv." he said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"They found Smith." he said.
"Where is he?" I asked as calmly as I could.
"They found him, but he managed to slip away in the middle of chaos." he said.
"How could they let him get away?!?" I yelled. Everyone in the office looked at me.
"I know this is upsetting to you, but you need to calm down."
"I need to go look for Smith." I said starting to leave.
"No, you need to go talk to Jason, and let the officers handle it." he said.
"Fine, but Smith is mine when you find him." I said leaving.
"What do you want? I need to be with Melanie." said Jason as I brought him into the interview room.
"This will only take a little while." I said shutting the door.
"I already told you what I know." he said sitting down.
"I know you're holding out on me, Jason." I said leaning down and getting close to his face.
"I didn't do anything. Why would I hurt Lily?"
"She broke the trust." I said.
"I don't know what you mean." said Jason.
"Yes, you do. Lily was selling her body to other men and you couldn't handle that and you beat her and then when that wasn't enough you killed her, and threw her body in the river like she was nothing but trash!" I yelled.
"No! I didn't kill her." he yelled standing up.
"Then what did you do?" I asked.
"I followed her."
"You saw what she did at night?"
"So you killed her?"
"No, I came back, though." he said.
"Lily, get in the car." I said as I pulled up next to her.
"Jason!? What are you doing here?" asked Lily.
"Just get in." I said.
She opened the door and got in and I drove off.
"How did you find out?" she asked as we drove.
"I followed you." I said, not looking at her.
"I'm sorry. It was the only way." she said.
"What do you mean it was the only way?" I asked.
"It was the only way I could make money for Melanie."
"I'm the one who's supposed to be making money for Melanie." I said getting angry.
"Jason, you've been away at school." I said.
"That doesn't mean I can't take care of the two of you. Why do you have all that money saved in that jar?"
"I don't think I can do this, Jason." she said.
"This! Us! I don't think I can be a wife at 19." I said.
"Why not?" I asked getting tears in my eyes.
"I want to do something with my life and that's not going to happen if I'm at home everyday playing house." she said.
"You can still go to school."
"Don't you get it? I want my life to be more than that. I almost have the money saved up for a house for Melanie and me."
"You're supposed to move in with me and go to school with me."
"I'm sorry Jason, but I can't marry you. I don't want my entire life being decided by a man." she said.
Pulled over. We were back where we started at. I didn't realize that we were going in circles. I felt my heart break in that moment. Before I knew what I was doing, I pulled my fist back and punched Lily in the face.
"Jason!" she yelled shocked.
"You deserve much worse than that, you stupid whore. I treated you better than you deserved, now get out of my car." I said.
Lily got out crying and holding her eye.
End of Flashback
"Those were the last words I said to her." said Jason.
"I'm sure Lily knew how you felt about her." I said standing up.
"I could've done it, you know."
"I could have taken care of them both." he said looking down.
I stared at him for a minute then walked out.
