"What activities are you doing?" Hunter asked me.
I was laying upside down on Joshua's bunk while the guys were playing cards in the middle room. The councilors were playing too, usually calling out cheaters or cheating themselves.
Tyson was in the far right room reading. I wanted to go check in on him, maybe get a good conversation. I sighed, I still don't know why I had any feelings for him. He was probably nothing but trouble, so why was I fooling myself with the thought that he cared about me too?
"Arts and crafts, guitar, creative writing," I said in a breath. "You?"
Hunter sighed. "Ropes course and ATV's."
"That's only two?"
"Ropes course takes two activities."
"Oh." I sighed again and brought myself upright and stretched. Polaroid said we'd be leaving in a few minutes so I slipped my boots back on and went back to the guys'.
"Hey, what up with you and Ty?" Harry asked me. He was sitting on his bunk pulling a shirt over his head.
"What's up, you mean? I don't know, is there something?" I said. Harry scowled at me when I corrected him, but smiled and I felt relaxed.
"Hunter said Ty has a thing for you, watch out, he's trouble." Harry whispered to me.
"Speaking of Hunter," I climbed up onto Harry's bunk and lowered my voice. "What happened between him and Tyson?"
Harry squirmed and looked uncomfortable. His eyes darted away from mine and ran a hand through his hair.
"Harry?" I pleaded.
"I can't say. I know it's something about a fight a year or two back, you'll have to ask one of them." He told me. He shrugged and I took that as my cue to leave.
"Thanks." I say as I climb down the bunk ladder. He nods to me and I go outside and wait alone. Hunter walks out and joins me, he was looking down and seemed to be thinking about something.
"Hey," I say softly.
Hunter looks up at me and smiled. "Hey!"
"Can I ask you something?" I say. This is probably out of line and a bad, bad, bad idea but it's killing me that I don't know.
"About what?" He asks. He leaned against the wooden railing and smiled at me. The sun hit him perfectly and he seemed to be glowing. I felt my heart beat faster and I smiled back. Scarlett, it's now or never.
"What's up with you and Tyson?" I spit out.
Hunter's smile falls and he looks away. I knew it. I knew I'd screw up if I said something. It's only my second day here and I screwed up. Damn it!
"I'm sorry I even asked." I said softly.
"Why do you want to know?" He growled.
I was taken aback by Hunter's tone. I never though he'd get angry, he seemed to sweet and kind for that.
"I... it's... look, I can easily tell there's something between you two. You can't deny it, because I've seen you act like Tyson isn't even in the room and you never speak to him. I just want to know, if you don't want to tell me it's fine." I said.
Hunter sighed. "Okay, you want to know? We got in a fight two years ago. Some words were said and a few punches were thrown. Scarlett, look, he's bad news. Don't talk to him, tune him out like I do."
"But why? He seems kind, if he's nice to me I should be nice to him."
"Are you blind? He's an ass. Just avoid him."
"No, look, I like you okay? Listen to me, you'll regret it if you don't."
A deep gutting feeling in my stomach told me to listen to Hunter, Tyson was a little off. He wasn't all to nice, just in his little swings. But then there's the side of him when he is kind, and sweet, and gentle. I'm about to tell Hunter I can do whatever I want, when Tyson joins us out on the balcony.
