I leaned against the rail, staring down at the reflection of myself. My dad used to say that if you looked hard enough at your reflection, you could see all the blood on your hands. When I look down at the water, I don't see a young girl looking earnestly for herself. I see a girl covered in blood, eyes glowing, mouth stretched in a delighted, maniacal smile. I see the monster inside me.
"So, are you going to tell me or what?" the boy, now known as Caleb asked. I gave a sigh and turned to face him.
"My families bloodline comes from Romania," I started. "My dad was what I am, and so he helped me. We have another person inside us. They are strong, evil, and filled with bloodlust. They want to kill. They drink blood. We have to control them."
"So, you're like a vampire," Caleb stated. I shook my head.
"I guess that's one name for them. Our real name is Strigoi," I said. "Our monsters inside of us are part of us. They are us. But we have to learn to control them. My dad was the one who helped me tame her. But now he's dead. So she broke loose. I can barely control her. She kills to numb the pain of losing my dad. Cause he was her dad too."
"Wait, so all those murders," Caleb asked, his voice faltering. I looked at him and nodded. "Why don't you just kill Madison with your monster?"
"I don't know," I pondered. "You wouldn't understand."
"Actually, I do," he said. "She bullies me too." I look at him and give him a smile. Maybe I can actually find a friend. He looked at me shyly.
"Can I see her?" he asked. I look at him, surprised.
"Are you sure?" I ask him. He nods. "You're going to scream, I know it. Would you like to scream?"
