4. First Day

~~~1 week later ~~~
"WHERE ARE MY DAMN SHOES!" I screamed in frustration. I was about to miss the bus.
"What?" My dad called.
" I SAID WHERE ARE MY SHOES!" I said, opting the curse word out of the sentence.
"Try by the TV!" He yelled back. I dashed into the main room, and slipped on the hardwood floor of the hallway. My feet went one way; my body went the other way. I yelped and crashed to the floor. My dad ran in.
"Wha- Hahahahah " he said, doubling over laughing. I bristled at him like a cat and glared. "Okay, okay I'll get your shoes. You go fix your hair," he chuckled. I walked into the bathroom much more carefully and wet down my fiery red hair.
I eventually got it looking alright again and found my shoes laying outside the door. I slipped on the worn, old Converse and grabbed my bookbag, which was stuffed with school supplies.
"Bye dad! Love you!" I called.
"Grab a breakfast bar or something before you leave! " he said as he walked into the kitchen.
"Yeah, yeah." I said as I walked in and stole the breakfast bar out of his hand.
"Hey!" He called.
"Gotta gooo!" I said as I dashed out the door into the cool, autumn air.
-at school-
   Luckily, I didn't recognize anyone on the bus ride there- mostly just because I didn't look. I could tell that almost no one was new this year. I was certainly going to be the odd one out- with tan skin, 3 jackets, and a funny accent.
As soon as I walked into the large, dank school building , I saw her. Kassia.
Yeah, she looked a lot different. Her hair was almost black now, and she was pale and skinny. But all the same, it was her. Her eyes completely gave it away. She was in a group of about 10 people; everyone flocking around her. She was a popular.
And there was lily! God, she looked a lot more different than she had in 8th grade. Her hair had been curly, now it was just wavy. And she was skinny, too.
I realized I was staring and quickly moved on.
-in class-
Kassia and Lily were in my class. So were about half of the people that she had been with in the hall, and they sat in the seats farthest from the teacher. I sat in the back along with some other new girl.
I saw Kassia glance my way and smile at me. She had no clue who I was.
"Roll call!" The teacher called. Well now she was gonna know exactly who I was. Great.
"Kassia Ambers!" The teacher, which upon looking at the board I discovered his name was Mr. Hedge.
"Here!" She called, her voice twinkling like bells. She immediately went back to whispering with her friends.
"Willow Brassington!" Mr. Hedge called. I saw Kassia's head snap up, along with Lily's and a couple of the other peoples in her group. Her eyes scanned the room quickly, waiting for me to say here.
"Here," I mumbled. She didn't catch it. Neither did Mr. Hedge.
"Willow?" Mr. Hedge called louder.
"Here!" I said louder, raising my hand. I saw Kassia staring at me, her jaw dropping in disbelief. I caught her eye and held her gaze for about 0.3 seconds before she spun around and started whispering harshly to her friends. I didn't know if it was a positive thing or not.
Mr. Hedge went through the rest of the roll, everyone was there. I ended up talking to the girl who was sitting beside me some more, her name was Celina. I found out that I had all the same classes as her, and she became a sort-of friend.
