4. Go Away Paul

"So you're the long lost twin sister?" Jared asks after the bonfire. The legends were really interesting and cool. We are all cleaning up.

"I guess so," I say.

"Did you not know?" Jake asks.

"Until last night, no," I say.

"Pops decided to tell you pretty late huh?" Embry asks.

"Uh... yeah," I say.

"There's no need to be afraid of us," Paul says.

"I'm not afraid of you," I say.

"Good, wouldn't want you to be," Leah says.

I scoff, and finish cleaning.

"Ready to head home?" Quil asks.

"Sure," I say.

"See ya tomorrow guys!" Quil says.

There's a chorus of  'see ya's and byes' that sound as Quil and I walk home.

I hear laughter when Quil opens the front door.

"Dad? Did you enroll me at La Push high?" I ask when I find him in the kitchen.

"Yes, you start tomorrow," he says. Great. Half way through senior year, and I'm the new kid.

"Thanks," I mumble. Quil disappeared. I head up to my room, only to discover Quil sitting at my desk, looking at a picture.

"I take it that you don't like school," Quil says, not taking his eyes off the picture,

"What picture are you looking at?" I ask.

He hands it to me. It's a picture of Kadi, Mac, Kris, Teag and I on the first day of senior year.

"Are these your friends?" he asks.

"Yeah, thats Kristina, MacKayla, Kadi, and Teagan," I pointing to each one, "And those were yours?" I point in the direction of First Beach.

"Told you they can be overwhelming," he says.

"You didn't tell me until we actually started a conversation with them!" I say.

"So? Better late than never? Am I right?" he asks jokingly.

"Sure," I say with lots of sarcasm.

I grab a pair of black sleep shorts, and a long sleeve plain white shirt, and walk to my bathroom that's connected to my room. I quickly change, and brush my teeth.

"Did you talk to Paul at all tonight?" Quil asks when I open my bathroom door.

"Yeah, like you said, he's not that bad when you get to know him," I say after I spit.

"Told you!" he says.

"I know," I  say after I wipe my mouth. I turn off the light and close the door on my way back into my room.

"I think he likes you," he says as he spins around in the chair.

"You sound like a girl," I say.

"You look like one," he says without thinking.

"That's because I am one," I say as I grab the back of the chair to stop him spinning.

"Oh yeah, forgot," he says with a smirk.

"Whatever, go to sleep," I say.

"Night Sissy!" he says on his way out.

"Don't let the door hit you where mother nature split you!" I call after him,

"HAH!!" he laughs. I set my alarm clock. The guys were complaining about what time school started, so I set it for six o'clock. I turn my lamp off, and go to sleep.

Some time later, I wake up to something hitting my window. I crawl out of bed, and look through it. Paul is throwing pebbles. I point toward my balcony, and walk over there, and open the doors, and stand out there.

"But hark! What light through yonder window breaks?" he recites Romeo and Juliet.

"Paul, what are you doing?" I ask.

"Being romantic, you're killing the mood!" he says.

"Go on," I say.

He recites the whole line from the play, then says, "Will my sweet Juliet go on a date with me?"

I roll my eyes, run a hand through my hair and say jokingly, "I don't know, after that it's kinda changing my mind."

"I'm serious! I'm asking you on a date, in the most cheesy way possible," he says.

"At this god awful hour of the night?" I ask.

"It's the only time I'll get alone with you for the next week! Trust me!" he says.

"I don't doubt it!" I say, "I'm probably going to get mobbed at school tomorrow!"

"Probably!" he says, "Come down."

"You mean jump? Are you crazy?!" I whisper yell.

"I'll catch you! I promise! I won't let anything hurt you!" he says. For some strange reason I believed him.

"Let me get shoes," I say. I quickly go back in my room, and find a pair of rubber flip flops and slide them on. I go back to the railing and throw a leg over, then I put my other leg over.

"Just jump, I'll catch you, I promise!" he says, "Are you scared of heights?"

"No, it's the impact of falling that scares me," I say.

"There won't be any impact, I'll be right here to catch you, I promise!" he says.

"You swear on your life?" I ask.

"I swear. I won't let anything hurt you," he says.

"Here goes nothing," I mumble before I squeeze my eyes shut, and push off. A pair of strong arms catch me.

"I told you I'd catch you," he says as he sets me down.

"Yeah, you did," I say. Now I trust him.

"I have something to show you," he says as we walk toward the woods.

"And it couldn't wait until tomorrow?" I ask with a yawn.

"Nope," he says.

"Get on with it then," I say.

He starts unbuttoning his pants and says, "This may seem strange, but you don't live in the world you think you do."

"Paul, put your pants back on," I say.

"Think of the legends," he says, "And you might wanna take a step back." I take about three semi-big steps away from him.

I watch him, as he shakes violently, and a huge grey wolf replaces him.

"Paul?" I ask. The wolf nods. "I'd like it if I could hear you too."

He nods again, and in a split second, Paul is back.

"What the hell was that?" I ask.

"I was showing you that the legends are true, and I have another thing to tell you," he says.

"What?" I ask.

"Imprinting," he says.

"Isn't that like when a wolf finds their soul mate?" I ask.

"Yeah, they can't be with anyone else, because they were only meant for each other," he says.

"What's it like? Imprinting, I mean," I say.

"Well, it's like, like when you see her. Everything shifts. Your whole world revolves around her from then on. You'd do anything, be anything for her. Whether it be a friend, a brother, a protect, and eventually, a lover," he says.

"Sounds like you've imprinted on someone," I say.

"You're smart," he says.

"So my ACT scores say," I say with a smile.

He chuckles and says, "I imprinted on you."

"Is that why you wouldn't stop staring?" I ask.

He scoffs and says, "Yup, that's exactly why."

"It was getting kinda creepy!" I say.

"Sorry," he says with a smirk.

"Go away Paul," I say with a grin.

"Wipe that grin off your face, I'm helping you get back inside," he says.

I roll my eyes and say, "Whatever." I turn on my heel and start walking away, when he grabs my wrist and spins me around, right into his bare chest.

"You never answered my question," he says in a low raspy voice. Which is pretty sexy if you ask me!

We stand there for a moment, slowly moving in. I take initiative, and close the gap. I reach up and snake my arms around his neck, and pull his head to mine, and kiss him. His hands find my waist. There are no words for how amazing it is. It's unexplainable.

"What does that tell you?" I ask when we pull apart.

"I'm going to take that as a yes," he says, "This better make you my girlfriend now."

"I'll think about it," I say before walking toward the house.

"The third, fifth, tenth, and thirteenth stair is squeaky!" he yells after me.

"Thanks for letting me know!" I yell back. I try the back door, and it's open. I go up the stairs as quickly, and silently as possible, and avoid the stairs that Paul said. I quickly go in my room, and shed my flip flops, then close my balcony doors, and slip back in bed, and Bailey still didn't wake up! He would be a terrible guard dog!

I fall asleep again that night with a smile on my face, and thoughts of Paul drifting throught my mind.
