Well today I was too terrified to go into school, so after begging mum to let me off for just one day (which was a complete failure) I did something I've never done before; skip school. I took the bus to school but got off two steps later and spent the day in town. I've been in town before by myself and I was fine, but today there was something different. It was almost completely empty apart from a gang of teenagers in a corner. I guess they had skipped school too. I sipped on my tea and thought of what I was going to do when I did go to school. I was thinking about whether I'm in any of of Tony's classes when I realized- drat! I've got a french assessment tomorrow! I was gonna study tonight but my books are at school. Then, I realized, I'm gonna have to go into school sometime so it might as well be today. I put a small tip on the counter then looked at my watch: 4:12. School was gonna finish in just over fifteen minutes! I started hurrying up and flung my bag on my back like a man who realized his train was an hour early. I got out my phone to check the bus times and there was one leaving at twenty past. Just when I was about to start running, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around to see one of the gang members. He was taller than me and looked just a bit older than myself. His hair and eyes were hazelnut and his skin was tanned like mine. "What?" I said and pushed him away. I started walking again, this time a little faster. The boy mirrored me. "What you doing out of school at this time? Eh?" He said. "None of your business now is it?" I said glancing at my watch; 4:16. "Look," He said, as if he didn't want anyone else to hear. "I don't wanna hurt you, so I'm gonna pretend to punch you alright? Hear's my watch, put it on your wrist and I'm gonna pretend to hurt you and steal your watch." He slid the golden watch onto my wrist. "Why? No! If you're gonna beat me up do it for real! Anyway I'm gonna miss the bus. Leave me alone." "I like your confidence. My name's Jake, we should hang out." He put his number into my phone. One of his friends got up so I ran to the bus stop. I felt like a coward, but there was something that made me smile. Jake.
Jake's probably my first friend who's a guy. Eugh, how weird is that dad? Did you ever have friends that were girls? I glanced at my watch: 4:19. Phew! On the bus, I stared up at the clouds again and I thought of you. I put my hands together then felt this hard, smooth thing. I looked down and saw Jake's watch. Woops! I'll text him and maybe we could meet at the park to chat and give him his watch back. He said yeah so I'll see him on Saturday.
Drrrrringgggg! I slumped off the train and made my way to my locker. I did my code 022449, and dragged it open. A square post-it note flew out. I picked it up. Your dead. Well, that's nice! I'm at home now and mum hasn't got back yet. I've written another song, this time about Jake. It's called Something about you. Of course I don't LOVE him! I mean I just met him. It's just his cheekiness charms me. Anyway Digbee's barking at the car again so I better go sort him out. Goodnight Dad
