*Btw im naming my chapters after epic songs, 1 so u know they r mine n 2 coz I like songs too much, I mean, I bearly talk to people at times because of music*
I woke in hospital. My leg was bandaged up at the top, but other than that, I felt fine. There was no one else in this room, all 5 beds empty. I was wanting someone to talk to, then I saw Jade fast asleep next to me. No one came in until a few hours later, but that was only another patient. An old woman, a bag hanging from her stomach. Bladder problems, I thought. Then I thought of when I was younger for some reason, in my music lesson. My teacher was really upset, she said her guinea pig died. I asked why, so she said it had a bladder stone and stopped peeing. I bust out laughing, asking if it exploded. She looked like she was about to cry, but I just found it hilarious. Don't ask what this old woman had to do with that, it was a random thought.
A few hours later, the doctor stepped in, pulled the curtain round and put his papers down.
"Hello, I'm doctor Kemp. I have been monitoring your leg closely and - " He was cut off be Leigh-Anne running in.
"EXCUSE ME!!!" he bellowed at the top of his lungs. L-A walked back out, then he carried on. "As I was saying, your leg is fine. You and your friends can leave as soon as you like." He spoke. He sounded gay, then I found out why. Another man, Dr Nelson, was in the hallway. He walked up to him, kissed his forehead and hand in hand, they headed off towards ward 18. In my mind, I was wetting myself and puking at the same time. Never met a gay guy until now...
I sat up more, then L-A came back.
"I can go." I smiled, then we just got up and left. Slightly weird really. We got back to the flat within minutes, Zayn gave us a lift. I went to my room, I was tired and overwhelmed. I was shot by a kid.
Luke's results were due today. I had heard off Ash that Jessy got shot, but apparently it wasn't Morgan. They didn't know who yet, slow police service. Ashton was telling me a lot about everyone, and yesterday, because it was my day off, I spent the day with him. I met Michael too, but he didn't talk much. I went to visit Jessy in ward 19, but she was still unconscious. That wasn't suprising though. I missed Luke yesterday. I went to see him as soon as I got in this morning, but it was early and he was still sleeping. I didn't want to wake him, but I sat with him until Ash came.
I went to see Lizzie before I got Luke's results, but she had no improvement. If anything, it had worsened. I refilled her drip, got more liquid food, then stroked her forehead. I whispered the words 'please wake up' to her, knowing she could hear me. Then I went to get the paperwork.
It said all his details, but the bit I was looking for, said:
Luke Hemmings, 17, 26/07/1996, has got cancer in his kidneys. This will need instant treatment, and he could end up loosing one. I will enquire about his parents and their views, but I will go ahead will the operation and treatment as soon as possible.
He will be kept here, unless he is wanted back in Australia, until he is recovered.
He had cancer. He could die if the doctors didn't treat this, I knew that. But how long has he had it? It could of been a year or so, he could die any second. But he hasn't experienced any of the signs... It could be a mistake. It has to be.
*She sits at home with the lights off, seeing lights in different colours.....* My phone rang. That was the ringtone I had for Ashton, but I thought he was with Luke...
I finally picked up... "Um, hi." I answered.
"Where are you? I cant find anyone, Luke needs help!" His voice sounded pained, distressed even. I dropped the sheets on the floor and legged it round the corner, only bumping into one person. I quickly apologized, then got back to running. I nearly missed the room, but I didn't. I was ok. A twisted ankle, but ok. Luke was laid screaming, Ash trying to calm him.
"What the hell is wrong?!" I practically shouted. I could feel my fringe sticking to my face with sweat, my fingers trembling and tears forming.
"He, he says his stomach area hurts, and he cant pee." Ash cried.
"Oh no. Its the cancer..." I frowned.
"Oh god no." He rubbed his hand through his hair. "What is gonna happen?"
"He needs an operation. Maybe one of his kidneys removed. His parents are going to be told, then treatment..." My voice droned out.
Ash just stood and stared, we both ignored the screaming. My fingers were shaking like mad, I didn't know what to do. He could die. But I wouldn't let him.
Ashton came round and hugged me, I needed it. The doctor came in a bit later, drugs and a semi-reassuring smile. A bag was attached to Luke so he could pee, and Ash and I left for the next bit. As much as I loved him, I didn't want to watch him in so much pain. Ashton had to leave before that though, he waited out the door. I walked down the hallway, told Gill I was leaving. She seemed annoyed, but I didn't care. Ash invited me back to his flat again, which I accepted. My home was shared with my 2 best friends, but they were both nutty, and I didn't want to see them right now.
Ash and I cuddled up on the sofa a while, until a fell asleep in his arms. Next thing I knew, it was 11 at night and my face had smudged all over Ashton's t-shirt.
