'Well?' I asked, my heart hammering against my chest. They both looked at each other, unsure on answering me I bet. I nervously ran my fingers through the ends of my tangling hair.
I hated how powerless I was in the situation. Well this stops. Now.
'Why the secrecy about me? Why am I so special?' I spat out. I felt anger rising in me as I demanded my answer that everyone has been avoiding to give me.
They both looked up at me, startled at my outburst towards them both. In Hester's eyes I saw the beginning of respect gleaming in her eyes.
'You'd better sit down, this may take awhile..' the man said. I took a deep breath, to brace myself.
'Not too long ago, the kingdom was actually a thriving land full of joyous people. We had a war long ago that ended and thus lived a time where everyone was truly happy,' I tried not to snort. This sounds so very cliché of a story book.
'But naturally, as peace outlasts, darkness also brews in the corners of the kingdom,' The man looked up at me through the flickering embers, gauging my reaction. I showed nothing.
'People turned to chaos, to steal, lie, cheat. It corrupted the king himself,' a long silence followed.
'The King's daughter, a bright spark of a woman, fell in love with the stable boy. Their love was unique, truest of it's form. They did not care for about their status in the King's castle and it was common for nobles to marry underneath them as they found it unfair to force those into marriage,' Hester carried on.
'What has this got to do with me?' I ask. Afraid I know the answer.
