31. The Mission
I breathed in as the woman tied my armour tighter. It was a leather body piece that tied at the side but slowly but surely I swear she was trying to cut off my circulation. Yeah I'm a nerd, I didn't exactly work out all the time.... I breathed out as she left me to it. I put my hair up into a ponytail using the elastic band that's ever present on my wrist.
'You look uh nice,' I turn around to see Caspian leaning against the doorway into the armoury. I grin sheepishly as I fiddle with my shirt cuff.
'Well uh I don't really think it's compliment worthy,' I gesture to the rest of my outfit which means leather boots up to the knees, black sturdy trousers tucked in and a grey shirt underneath the leather body piece.. what the hell it is actually called?
'Anyway, I came over to give you this,' he handed me a wooden staff. It was carved with an intricate design, grooves in the middle that felt shaped to my hands as I held it.
'Thank you, this is really awesome-' I look up at him.
'When you're really in danger, it'll help you,' He smiled at me, reached out towards me and... patted me awkwardly on the arm. I blushed slightly.
'I uh good luck out there and be safe,' my arm tingled as he rest his hand above my elbow.
We jump as Charles enters the room. Caspian withdraws his hand quickly as I divert my eyes to the most interesting corner in the room.
'We're about to leave,' he stated stiffly before strutting straight out the room again. I make eye contact with Caspian as I walk out and smile before setting off down the corridor anxiety building like a tensioned string.
