The woods grew around me, their branches thickening around my waist tightening until I couldn't breathe. I was trapped; unable to move or scream as he came closer, the darkness veiling his true identity to me. 'You will submit one day..,' a cold whisper curled around my hair as the figure stepped out, darkness surrounding my vision as the branches cover my head cutting out the moonlight.
I sat up in a hurry, throwing a pillow across the room as I fight the feeling of the branches away from body. Sitting there, I take deep breaths as I try to rid the imagery and the feeling of claustrophobia, focusing on a shard of sunlight dancing lazily on my quilt. I look over to the window, watching the sun rise over the edge of the forest with it's pink hues painting the sky.
I get up. Stretching, I walk over to the window to open it up. Even though it was Saturday morning, I had chores to do. Walking down to the kitchen 10 minutes later, I was surprised to find my dad there. Sitting at the table. Drinking coffee.
'Uh morning dad..' I started, reaching for the kettle and pouring myself a cup of tea. The feeling in the room felt different. Crackling with.. I'm not even sure I know.
'Hey Hun, how are you?' he asked, looking up from his mug. I tried not to gasp. He looked at me through un bloodshot eyes, his face clean shaven and hair groomed. For months he'd holed himself away in his study, ignoring me, ignoring my pleas for him to get up away from it all, only stopping to do the bare essentials to keep himself alive before getting lost again in his own fabricated world. Away from me.
'I uh I'm alright thanks..' I stuttered, not wanting to meet his gaze. I set my cup down, taking a deep breath as he looked back at his mug.
'I was thinking about... going into town today,' he said, clearing his throat. I looked over, not sure of what would be next.
