15. Another World
I peered at my surroundings, the dark stonework slimy with moss and water. I focused on the Prince's back as I followed him up a stairway, l notice the details on materials. The sabre at his hip.
Anxiety rose in my throat as the situation became clearer. I was defenceless. I had no clue where I was and if I'd ever get home.
We reached the top of stairway, entering a brightly lit corridor. The walls were adorned with tapestries of rich colours. As I passed, one was depicting the slaying of a great beast with soldiers all around it.
Taking another deep breath I tried not to stare at my unfamiliar surroundings as we came into a grand hall. Light flourished throughout the place, ornate paintings, wall hangings and lush carpeting filled the room; giving it warmth.
The room centred on a figure sitting in a grand wooden chair, elevated on a platform. The Prince stood before him.
'My King, the girl has awoken,' he announced. My legs start to shake as I realise all attention would be focused on me. The prince stepped aside. Revealing me.
'Come closer girl,' an old voice commanded me. I stepped a few paces up to the throne facing the King. He stood up, rearing to his proper height like a stag. His body draped with a red cloak, edged with fur. His suit red alongside the luxurious cape and a golden crown adorning his head. My heart rate picked up.
