4. The Incident Unwinds
A few hours passed. The aircraft was in the middle of the ocean, the fasten seatbelt sign was turned off. The plane shuddered again. It stalled. Then it nosedived.
"Crap, crap CRAP!" shouted Tom.
The cabin lights went out, the oxygen masks fell, but the plane was falling too fast for anybody to put theirs on. Screaming, Thomas reached for the life jacket underneath his seat. Trembling, he put it on, without instruction from the flight attendants.
"Brace!" chanted the crew. "Brace, brace, brace!"
Tom assumed the position and stayed that way. He stayed in the bracing position for the ten or fifteen minutes that the plane was falling. Fire was pouring through the cabin, yet he stayed in the bracing position. The screams of the passengers got louder and louder. People were crying, shouting, praying. The plane's tail broke off and plummeted into the water below.
Smoke, fire screaming. Smoke, fire, screaming. Smoke, fire, screaming.
The plane was reaching the ocean. Tom uttered the last words before the crash. One simple word that he will always remember...
Then, silence, darkness and silence.
