I awoke to a loud banging on the door, glancing at the clock I realised it was already six o'clock dinner would be ready soon and I was no where near ready.
I called out to the person to come in as I jumped off the bed and walked into the cupboard to find some clothes. I pulled out a pair of jeans and a nice shirt. I wasn't about to dress myself right up for dinner. I walked back into the room and found Dean standing near the door although he was dressed in more casual clothes, the look suited him.
"I thought you might like some help to get to the dining room." He said, looking over my appearance.
"Uh yeah that would be great just give me two minutes to get ready." I replied walking into the bathroom.
I had a quick shower and got dressed. I could get ready quickly when I needed to and this was one of those times wouldn't want to be late to dinner with the royal family. I finished getting ready and turned to Dean who was still waiting patiently by the door, he did look a little surprised I guess he thought it would take me longer to get ready.
I slipped my shoes on and nodded at him that I was ready. We didn't say anything as we walked along but it was okay the silence was comfortable. I made mental notes this time on all the turns we took so that I would be able to find my room on my own. We walked past the formal dining room and went into the smaller one.
Everyone else was already seated around the table. I was surprised though as Dean was the only person from earlier to be here, which made me a little curious. I was also a little unsure about how I felt about the guy, I've never been comfortable around people I don't know but I felt comfortable around him even though I had barely spoken to him. The tour was fun and he had been really patient with me and didn't rush me around. I also thought it was nice that he came and got me for dinner but then he may have been put up to that.
I took a seat next to Jesse and offered him a small smile. He and Mel both looked more relaxed then earlier. I was still not comfortable with the idea of conversing with my real parents but I guess that would come in time.
People brought a bunch of food out on plates and everyone began serving themselves, I waited till everyone had put food on there plates and then started serving myself. Everyone had piled heaps onto their plates whilst I only had a little. The silence was a little awkward but everyone was eating which made it slightly better.
"Did you enjoy the walk around the grounds?" Mum asked.
"Uhh yeah you have a beautiful house and grounds." I replied trying to smile.
"That's good, your welcome to wander around whenever you like." She explained, my father nodding along.
He appeared to be a man of not many words. I'm sure when the situation called for it he would have plenty to say. The twins were talking quietly between themselves glancing in my direction every so often, tomorrow I would have to try and talk with them.
"Thanks, I will take you up on that. I will no doubt spend a lot of time outside it's relaxing." I replied, feeling a little more comfortable.
We spent the remainder of dinner talking even getting Jesse and Mel involved, I guess the more they talked like normal people the easier it was to converse with them. We shared some stories and by the end of it we were sore from laughing. Once all the plates were cleared we said goodnight and I followed Mel to her room. Jesse joined us and we sat around talking some more except what had happened in the past few hours. It was nice to be talking like normal.
After a couple more hours I said goodbye telling them I would see them tomorrow. I went to my room and opened the doors to the balcony. Sitting down I pulled my knees up to my chest and gazed out across the gardens. I finally let my thoughts wander to everything that had happened. I was still having a hard time believing that I was the lost daughter of the royal family, and that the parents who raised me weren't my real parents but I'm beginning to think this may be the adventure my friends and I were looking for.
I mean it was way out of anything we could have possibly dreamed of but it could be fun and we would just have to go with it and the more I thought of it the more I realized it was all we could do. I continued to look over the gardens and some movement in one of the paddocks caught my eye. It moved again and I realized it was Tristan.
Before I knew what I was doing I was up and heading down the stairs and out the back door. I weaved my way through the gardens and climbed through the fences until I was in his paddock he perked his ears up and turned in my direction as I climbed through the last fence. I didn't make any movement towards him instead I turned and walked towards the tree and sat down. He watched every move I made but I still made no movement towards him.
He stood like he owned the place like he was on top of the ladder, the moonlight shone of his pure black coat he looked majestic. We stayed like that just looking at each for what felt like forever when in reality it was only a few minutes but after those few minutes he took a step towards me. And then several more after that until he was standing right in front of me. I slowly reached my hand out and let him smell it and after a few seconds I was running my hand up and down his head.
Once I thought he was comfortable with that I stood up and started running my hand down his neck and across his back. He still stood on guard but didn't make a move to get away from me. I moved back to his face and looked him in the eye it was like he was staring into my soul. A noise caught his attention and he quickly went on the defense, he snorted before moving to the other side of the paddock. I turned to where the noise came from and noticed a person standing there.
I couldn't really make out there features but something told me it was okay and whoever it was wouldn't hurt me. I turned my head to look at Tristan but he had melted into the shadows no longer wanting to be seen. Hopefully I would be able to repeat this with him sometime it felt nice been able to touch him when no one else had.
I turned back in the direction that the movement came from and I realised it was Dean crossing the paddock. I wonder what he was doing out here in the middle of the night. I just watched as he crossed the paddock towards me it seemed if I spoke too loud it would ruin the peace I had found. It took him only seconds to reach me and sit down. I wanted to ask him what he was doing here at the same time I just wanted to enjoy the silence.
"That was really amazing what you just did, no one has been able to get three feet near him even when they did exactly what you did." He whispered to me.
"Well I didn't do anything special. I noticed him move from my balcony and decided to come down here. I didn't think he would come anywhere near me. I just wanted to sit and gaze at him. But within a few minutes he wandered over and let me touch him. He is something to behold especially in the moonlight." I whispered back.
"Maybe he can sense something about you." He replied.
"Like what?" I asked.
"That you're special." He said giving me a small smile.
"I'm not that special. Anyway what are you doing out here?" I questioned. I mean I didn't really have much to go on I was walking around because I noticed a horse move in a paddock.
"Just heading home. I was on patrol after dinner but my shift is over and I'm going to get some much needed rest. It has been a busy couple of days." He replied.
It's a wonder he hasn't passed out, I'm not sure if he slept on the plane but once we got off the plane he had been awake the whole time he didn't even get to relax after breakfast because of me. I should have just told them I could have walked around myself.
"It's a wonder your still able to walk. Sorry, I should have told them to let me walk around myself earlier so you could rest." I rambled back.
"It's alright, I quite enjoyed giving you a tour. You're not what I thought you were." He replied.
I wasn't sure how to respond to that. I mean what do you say when someone tells you that you're not what they thought you were. I feel as though I should feel offended but I had been getting that all my life. Apparently I have an old soul and am wise beyond my age. I don't know how people figured that out but I just went with it.
I was expecting him to say something to fill in the silence but instead he just sat next to me. The moon was now at it's peak in the sky I should probably get to bed and Dean should definetly get to bed especially if he was working tomorrow.
I stood up and brushed myself off, Dean mirrored my actions.
"Well I should probably get to bed and let you do the same." I said as I started walking towards the fence.
"Yeah it is getting a little late. Luckily I have the day off tomorrow." He replied.
"Well that's good, you'll be able to catch up on sleep." I said.
We walked the rest of the way in silence. Now that I was on my back I was struggling to keep my eyes open. I would be lucky to make it to my room. Once we were back on the main road I turned to face Dean.
"Thanks again for today I really appreciated it. Goodnight, I'll see you tomorrow." I said before turning back to the main house.
"It really wasn't a problem. Goodnight and sweet dreams." He replied as he walked towards his house.
I walked quickly back to my room letting the last hour play back over my mind. I still couldn't understand why I felt so comfortable around him. Once I got back to my room I collapsed on the bed and went straight to sleep.
