A knock came at the door as Harry and I got off the couch, then changed into our clothes. I ran a hand through my hair, smoothing it down in hopes that it would look decent. Harry walked over and opened the door. "About time you answered. What were you doing in there mate?"
I heard a man's voice and saw that he stepped into the room. Harry closed the door behind him. The other man entered the living room and our eyes locked with one another. "Didn't know you had a girl over. I would've come back later." he said.
"Why are you here Lou?" Harry asked.
"Where are your manners Harry?" The other guy asked. He then turned towards my direction and smiled as he held out his hand. "Louis Tomlinson." I reached out and shook Louis' hand.
"Beautiful name for such a beautiful girl." Louis said. Louis didn't have curly locks like Harry. His hair was the same color brown, but straight. He had bright blue eyes, like Niall. He was British as well. I slightly blushed at the comment as we pulled our hands away.
"Why are you here?" Harry repeated his question. Louis picked up a rubber band ball from Harry's desk and began to throw it up in the air, then caught it. "Anderson wanted to talk to you about... you know." Louis answered, continuing to play with the ball.
Harry nodded and told Louis to keep watch until he came back. With that, Harry left the room and I was alone with Louis. "So Camille, how did you and Harry meet?" He asked, placing the ball on the desk as he stood up.
He walked over to a table I didn't even notice until know and poured himself a drink. "At work." I replied. Well, officially I ran into him a few times before then but I didn't know his name. Louis nodded and took a sip of his drink. "Harry talks about you a lot." he said.
"Oh yeah, loads. He never stops talking sometimes. Annoying, but it's good to know that he's finally moved on from that Genevieve girl." I just nodded and took a seat on the couch. Louis walked over and sat down. "You have nothing to worry about.
"Harry's a good guy, but he doesn't open up to just anyone. He's always been afraid to fall in love with another girl because of what happened with Genevieve." While talking with Louis, Harry entered through the door as he ran a hand through his hair.
"Louis, a word." He motioned with his head towards the kitchen. Louis nodded as he stood up and followed Harry into the kitchen. Their voices were hushed and I could hardly make out what they were saying, but I picked up the words: "party" and "Genevieve."
Carefully, I watched their facial expressions to see if there was anything else I could pick up on. Harry looked a bit worried and Louis was a bit concerned. "Yeah, see you mate." Louis said, giving Harry a quick hug. "Nice meeting you Camille." He nodded towards my direction after pulling away from the hug.
"You too." I smiled. He smiled, then exited out of the room with the door closing behind him. Harry walked out of the kitchen as I stood up and smoothed my clothes. "What was that about?" I asked. He motioned for me to follow out the door and so I did.
We were out in the parking lot when he finally decided to speak up. "There may be a lead on my mum's murder case." he said. I didn't say anything, choosing to stay silent. "There's this party next Saturday and I was told that Genevieve would be there, but I don't know for certain.
"I'm gonna go to that party to confront her." I shook my head at him. Harry was just as stubborn as I. "You can't go alone Harry."
"I know. I'm bringing back up, just in case. Every year, Ethan hosts this big party that everyone is invited to. When I mean everyone, I mean his closest friends and even the people that work for him. He always brings a date."
"You're thinking that date could be Genevieve."
"Could be anyone really Cam, even you. Though," he paused. "There's a chance that they're still together. Anderson, my boss, has already set up a plan to easily take the two of them out. He believes either Genevieve or Ethan know who killed my mum."
"How do you know it's a well though out plan Harry? I mean, something will go wrong."
"We've complied a few other options, in case something does go wrong." he said. "Though, we've never put some of these scenarios into action because they've never happened." I was worried that he was going to say that.
Knowing Ethan had once worked for the agency along side Harry, he could have a plan of his own. "Is it likely that Ethan will have a plan as well?"
He nods, "Yes. We have considered that in our plan. He knows exactly what moves we are going to make, except for one." When he said that last part, I was afraid of what he was going to say next. He looked at me in that moment and it was there I knew what he was thinking.
I began to open my mouth to say something to him, but he interrupted before I could get a word out. "You're going to have to go with him to the party."
"Cam, listen to me. We both know what Ethan wants. We both know his game that he's trying to play. He wants you for himself, and only you. If you go with him, he'll be distracted with thoughts of you and he won't know what hit him. It's the only way our plan could possibly work."
"Why am I the bait?"
He reached out and took my hand, holding it firmly in his grasp. "For the same reason that I was." he said. I was confused by his statement. He let go and started the car. "You have to do whatever you can to make Ethan fall for you."
"I don't think that'll be hard to do Harry."
"He knows about you and I. He's not clueless like some of our friends. He can see right through our lies. You have to be believable as possible, make him think that you and I aren't a thing." We're a thing now?
"Please, do this for me." He quickly glanced at me while waiting at the traffic light. I looked at him and nodded, "I will."
. . .
It was the week of the party and everyone seemed so calm about what was going on, but not me. Inside, I was panicking. All I could think about was Ethan and Genevieve in the same room. "As you all know, I am hosting a party this Saturday.
"I have sent you all an email about where and what time this event will be taking place. I hope to see you all there." Ethan announced as soon as our lunch break had begun. He was looking towards my direction with a gleam in his eye.
Everyone had gone into the break room and before I followed in after them, Ethan called my name. "Camille, may I have a word with you?" he asked. I cautiously looked towards Harry's direction who followed behind Jesy into the break room.
Harry and I looked eyes for a moment, then followed Ethan to another area of the floor. "I'm aware that this is your first party." I nodded and continued to stay silent. I had a feeling I knew what he was going to say next. "Do you have a date to the party?"
I shook my head and then he smiled, but it quickly faded afterwards. "What about your boyfriend?" he asked.
"I don't have a boyfriend."
"Oh, I thought you and Harry-"
"Him? He doesn't mean anything to me." I hope that Harry wasn't listening in on our conversation because saying those words hurt me inside. "Well, I guess you're available then." Ethan smiled. I'm sure he was happy to hear that statement.
I nodded and he continued, "I'll pick you up around six this Saturday." I told him that I can't wait to see him then and shortly after, he walked away. I exhaled, not even realizing I had been holding my breath for so long.
I walked back to the break room and took my seat beside Perrie. "So, what did Ethan want?" Niall asked.
"He asked me to be his date to the party." I replied, looking down at my hands. Harry sat at another table with Jesy, probably to listen in on the conversation. "What did you say?" Perrie asked.
"I agreed to go with him."
"Really? Thought you'd be going with... I don't know, Harry." Jade glanced over at Harry's direction. When I looked towards his direction, he turned away and focused his attention on something else.
He must be good at acting or something. "I don't really like Harry all that much." I shrugged and took a sip of my coffee. "I figured you two would be together. I mean, he drives you home almost every single day from work." Perrie said. "You two live in the same building."
"He's not my type is all." I knew that Harry and I were going to be talking about this after work. I wasn't really looking forward to Saturday, especially being Ethan's date. This was going to be one hell of a week.
