The Dead Walking 2

This is the sequel to The Dead Walking. You all know Izzy's story and how she came to meet Carl's group, but this is completely different. The zombies are changing. They're getting smarter. Trees aren't safe, wooden doors wont protect you. Nothing prepared her for what is happening to the world.

1. 1 Month Later

Its been about 1 month since I was shot. My chest doesn't hurt too bad anymore. The wound is closed, but I still cant talk to much. I can walk on my own too without any help. They only bad thing is that it hurts to shoot a gun. When my arms to much it sends pain to my chest. I'm lucky though because I could have become paralysed. Then there would be no way I would want to live. Heck, I probably would have shot myself! Carl still wont let me walk around on my own though. Its too "dangerous". He treats me like a baby. Kind of how my mother always acted. Hopefully it will stop once I get healed all the way, but that's so far away! Beth said it could take up to a year. Maybe I have some fast healing abilities to along with my miracle survival ability. I learned that really when someone gets hit where I got hit in the chest they usually die. I guess I'm special.

I sit up and suppress a groan. Carl stirs beside me. He also wont let me sleep alone. He's afraid I will get attacked by some other person. Its true that I have been attacked by three people within a few months, but really?! "Hey beautiful," he smiles.

"Hey," I press down on my chest as I cough. It doesn't hurt as bad when I do that.

              "You okay," he asks worriedly.

"Fine," I still try and make my sentences short.

"Okay. Do you wanna go for a walk?"

He helps me up and wraps his arm around my waist as we walk. I'm glad for the support. I can walk by myself, but it still hurts. Which is funny because I was shot in the chest, not my legs. I don't know. We walk outside along the fence. I don't say anything as we walk. My eyes widen though as I see a zombie trying to climb the fence! "C-carl!" I stutter. He pulls out his gun and shoots it in the head. "W-what was that?"

"Izzy we have to go get my dad. That noise will distract more and I have never ever seen a zombie try and climb something," he shakes his head. "Come on," he pulls me toward the adults cell.

We search all the cells, but we don't find him. He picks me up and runs outside. I spot his dad working out in the field. "Over there," I point at Rick. Carl runs to him quickly. He sets me down once we reach him. He is breathing heavy.

"Dad," he takes a big breath. "We just saw a zombie... trying to climb the fence," he says in between breaths.

"What are you talking about Carl? They cant climb," Rick insists.

"Dad! We just saw it!" he half yells.

             "We did," I comment.

"Over there, near the gate to get out," Carl explains.

"What did you do to it?" he asks.

"I shot it," he says flatly.

"I don't understand. The zombies aren't smart. They don't know how to climb. We need to guard the fence even more. If they can climb in here we're going to have a problem," Rick murmurs to himself.

"Duh! But dad if they can climb then... this place wont be safe."

"Yes it will. We will just have to stay on guard," Rick disagrees.

"Whatever. Just do something. We cant have zombies invading this place again."

Carl grabs my hand and leads me away from Rick. That is a scary thought. What if the zombies are getting smarter. If they can climb then this place wont be safe. The fences are tall, but I could climb it if I had to. They wont keep climbing zombies out. This is bad. This is really bad. Its one thing to live in a world with dumb cannibals, but to live in a world with smart cannibals. That's a whole different story.

Sorry! I know this is a short chapter, but its only the first one. I promise the next will be longer and better. What do you think so far? Don't forget to like, comment, and favorite!
