“Abby, turn that music down!”
The fourteen year old girl went over to the radio and turned down the music, then went back to the mirror to finish applying her lip gloss. She took one last look at her outfit in the mirror, a purple tank top with shorty jean shorts. She grabbed her backpack and headed downstairs.
“Would you like some eggs?” her mom Elizabeth asked.
“No.” she said picking up a banana.
“They're really good.” said Sara her younger sister.
“I'm sure they are.” said Abby smiling at her sister.
“Good morning everybody.” said her step-dad coming into the kitchen.
“I gotta get over to Hailey's.” she said.
“Have a good first day.” said her mom.
“Bye, Abby.” said her step-dad. She glared at him as she walked out.
Once she was out the door she walked across the street to her best friend Hailey's house. As she walked she ate her banana. She walked in the front door of Hailey's house. She walked into the kitchen where she found Hailey, her mom, and her older brother Tony who was a junior this year.
“Hi, Abby.” said Mrs. Daniels.
“Hey. Where's Mr. Daniels?” asked Abby.
“He had to work early today.” said Mrs. Daniels.
“Tell him hi for me.” she said.
“I will. You kids better go or you'll be late for your first day of high school.”
“Can you give us a ride, Tony?” asked Hailey.
“Sure. Let's go.” he said getting up and grabbing his bag.
“Bye, Mom.” said Hailey as we walked out the door.
Hailey got in the front and Abby sat in the back.
“You're looking hot today, Abby.” said Hailey.
“You are.” agreed Tony.
“Eww, Tony that's gross.” said Hailey.
“What? I'm just agreeing.”
“She's my best friend.” said Hailey.
“All I said was she looked hot.” he said as we drove to the high school.
“Would you guys please stop fighting.” she said rolling my eyes.
“We're not fighting.” said Hailey.
“Whatever.” said Abby sitting back.
As they drove she saw Tony smile at her from the rear view mirror. She smiled back.
They got to the high school and Abby grabbed the bag that held her varsity cheerleading uniform.
“I wish I had gotten on varsity with you.” said Hailey looking at the bag.
“You were great at auditions.” she said.
“Obviously not good enough. They put me on JV.” she said as they walked.
“They're idiots. You were amazing and you will make it next year. Right Tony?” she said as they walked.
“Yeah. Don't worry about it Hailey.” he said putting his arms around them both.
Abby's heart skipped a beat.
“This is gonna be the best year ever.” said Hailey as they walked.
2 months later
The young girl ran as fast as she could her cheerleading uniform getting caught on the trees. She screamed for help although no one could hear her. She tripped over a branch and fell. She didn't have the strength to get back up. Nobody heard the two gunshots that went off.
