The Face as Cold as Stone {APH}

Norway's face never changes.
It's just there, emotionless, uncaring, unfeeling - like Norway has shut himself off from the world, and he no longer cares. Denmark is determined to find out why.

Hetalia fanfic, eventual DenNor.
Hetalia does not belong to me.

10. Chapter Ten

Thanks to everybody again!!!!!!! If I wrote another APH fanfic, are there any pairings you'd like me to do? I can't guarantee anything, but if there's a pairing you'd like to read, let me know just in case I end up writing something else and I like the same character/shipping as you. Or another DenNor? AU? Non AU? (The AU would probably be a Fantasy one. :D) I'm currently thinking maybe DenNor fantasy AU?

Anyways, thanks a million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

They stopped, finally, at the airport they'd got there from.

"Aren't we mass criminals now?" Spain pointed out as Norway parked the sports car.

"No," the Norwegian replied. "I wiped their memories of the last three hours as we left."

"Amigo, that is amazing!" Spain exclaimed, grinning. Norway shrugged, opened the door, and stepped out. Denmark turned to Spain.

"Thanks, Spain. Seriously, I owe you one. Never thought I'd admit it that easily," Denmark said quietly, but Spain simply shook his head.

"Amigo, I like to help people," Spain laughed.

"Thanks," Denmark grinned, as they joined Norway outside the car.

"Should we leave it here, amigos? What if the woman finds it and the police come after us again?"

Denmark laughed. "Then West and Sve can chase them down and glare them to death."

Spain laughed, nodding his agreement. A slight pause. And then, "Adios, amigos."

"See you," Denmark said, clasping the Spaniard's wrist in gratitude. Norway nodded his farewell, turning to leave.

"Good luck," Spain murmured as they turned to leave. Denmark walked alongside the smaller nation, wondering just how much of a friend Norway even considered him.

I love Norway. Denmark rolled the words through his head, but, even as he thought them, they seemed impossible. He looked again at the Norwegian's expressionless face, the face that, never in a million years, could not possibly love Denmark.

There was the problem of Norway's impending birthday again. It occurred every year, and Denmark would always stress over what to give him. This year was no exception.

In the Viking ages, it had been easy. Every time the 17th May rolled around, Denmark would find Norway some new weapon or helmet or something equally war-like that Norway would then proceed to use on their viking raids.

The cross pin had, undoubtedly, been the best gift he'd ever got the Norwegian. It was the celebratory present Denmark had given to Norway at the start of the union between the two nations, and Norway was still wearing it.

The phone chose that exact moment to go off, the familiar ringtone piercing Denmark's ears as he answered.

"Denmark!" Hungary's voice greeted him. Mentally, Denmark envisioned hanging up, but the Hungarian would only continue to annoy him. Blocking her number would do nothing.

"Hi," he said, somewhat irritably.

"Great! You're there! We know it's Norway's birthday soon, and I'm sending Japan around with ideas for his present," she said, pausing briefly for Denmark to answer.

"What? I thought we told you there's nothing-"

"And that's exactly why we're helping!" she interrupted. "So that there is something between you, and I get more yaoi. I would come myself, but Sweden and Finland are being particularly affectionate right now and I really must go. Viszlát!" she said cheerfully, hanging up with no room for protest. Denmark sighed, closed his eyes, and wondered what he'd just gotten himself into.

Japan arrived a few hours later, a notebook in his hands and a determined look on his face.

"Come in," Denmark sighed. "Since I know there's no discouraging you."

Japan nodded politely and walked inside, perching on a chair and greeting Denmark.

"So, got any plans?" Denmark asked. Japan smiled, nodded, and opened up the notebook.

"Hungary-chan said that you should probably buy him something you designed yourself, and that he will use. Is there anything Norway-san needs that you can design yourself? Anything he needs a replacement for?"

Replacement. Right. Denmark winced as he nodded. "I broke his watch a few days ago. He'll need a new one of those," the Dane sighed, and Japan produced a pen from the folds of his kimono, noting 'watch' down on the paper.

"She also said to include national symbols of both nations on the design, to prove you want to be with him," Japan added. Denmark rolled his eyes.

"Who said I liked him in that way?" Even as he said it, he could feel his cheeks flushing scarlett.

"Hungary-chan said so. She's the yaoi master, don't forget," Japan smiled, and Denmark sighed irritably.

This was going to be a long night.

By the time they'd finished, Japan had claimed victory and Denmark had finally admitted that yes, he maybe did like Norway as more than a friend, and yes, he did want to impress him. The watch had been ordered, the design sent off by Japan, and Denmark was feeling especially tired.

"How am I supposed to give it to him?" he asked. "He's going to hate me if he knows I like him."

Japan shook his head. "Do not worry, Denmark-san. This gift will show him how much you care, and if it comes to the worst then you can insist that you were presenting him the gift as a friend. Remember how you're wrapping it up?"

Denmark grinned, nodding. "Rectangular box, red paper with a white and blue ribbon to make it look like his flag."

Japan smiled, nodding.

"Thank you for letting me help, Denmark-san. It has been a pleasure."

Denmark grinned. "Thanks for the help, Japan. And please, please don't let Hungary record it. I don't want her to be spying when Norge opens it, okay?"

Japan paused. "I'll see what I can do," he said, and Denmark grinned widely.

Waving farewell to the Asian, he felt a spark of hope ignite in him, before running to the phone, calling Finland, and asking,

"Fin, how the hell do you wrap up a present?"
