Harry found a little outlet mall a few miles away from the cabin. We decided to split ways and look for places that were hiring. But first, Harry dragged me to a Verizon Wireless since I apparently need a phone. Well I guess I do need one if I get a job, but whatever. It took me five minutes to pick out a phone for myself since I wasn’t a picky person when it came to cellar devices. I picked out a white Motto X along with a black case that guarantees that it’s indestructible.
I glared at Harry as he handed his credit card to the man. Harry just shrugged at me and grinned. After an hour and a half later, we walked out the store with a brand new phone in my hands. I saved Harry’s number in my contacts and we split ways. I trudged around the mall for a few minutes before I came across Now Hiring sign in the window of Subway.
I sighed and walked straight up to the girl with short black hair and dark brown eyes.
“Excuse me? I saw the sign out front and I was wondering if I–“
“You want the job,” the girl finished for me. I nodded and nervously shuffled on my feet. The girl sighed.
“Wait here, I’ll get the boss,” She said flatly and disappeared through the back door. I frowned at her tone. Who shit in her coffee this morning? In a matter of seconds, the girl appeared with a bald headed man behind her. He had a bit of a belly on him and a white mustache; strange. I politely smiled at them and straightened my spine.
“So you are here about the job?” The man asked in a strong southern accent, making it very hard to keep a straight face. I cracked a smile and nodded.
“You’re not one of them troublemakers aren’t ya?” The man asked with a serious face.
“No sir,” I said, still smiling. This was amusing me more than it should...
“As long as you can be here tomorrow, then you have the job. We need all the help we can get. Jenny can tell you the rules and what you need to do. What’s your name?” He asked with a smile. Relief washed over me.
“Thank you so much sir and my name is Brigh.” I said. The girl rolled her eyes, but I ignored her. The man seemed taken aback with my accent. That makes me want to roll my eyes. Seriously, what was with people thinking English accents are strange?
“Welcome, anyway come back here noon tomorrow, Brigh. Nice speaking with ya and have a nice day.” The man said. I nodded and shook his hand, cringing slightly when my hand met his clammy hand. I waited till I was out of his sight before rubbing my palm on my jeans. Gross. I spotted a bench outside of a bookstore and took a seat, pulling out my phone. I wonder if Harry found something yet.
I struggled with unlocking the damn device and spent nearly five minutes trying to figure out how to text people.
“Thank god,” I mumbled when I figured it out. I quickly typed out a text.
*Have you found a job yet?*
*Yep, where r u?*
*Outside the bookstore*
As soon as I sent that text, I saw Harry slipping into the empty space next to me. He grinned and greeted me with a kiss on the cheek.
“Hey Haz, what did you find?” I sighed and leaned against him, resting my chin on his shoulder. He laughed and nuzzled his head on top of mine.
“That footlocker place,” he answered.
“I got a job at Subway,” I groaned. Harry chuckled.
“Hey, it’s not so bad. At least you get to bring me subs for dinner!”
I shoved him playfully and stood up. “Come on, I’m bored. Let’s go window shop.” I smiled and took his hands, hauling him up. He groaned and pressed his body against mine. I reached up and brushed my nose against his.
“Don’t be Debby downers,” I pouted. He caught my bottom lip and bit down gently.
“You’re lucky I like you, Brigh.”
“Aw, well aren’t I special?” I teased and stepped back, grabbing his hand again and pulling him toward Bath and Body Works.
Later that night, I was sitting on the couch setting up my voice mail thing while Harry was putting on his pajamas. Suddenly, my phone vibrated in my hand, making me jump. I realized someone was calling as it continued to buzz. I hesitated before swiping the screen to answer the unknown call, slowly placing up to my ear.
“Hello?” I asked timidly. “Who is this?”
“Hello Brigh, how are you?” The very, very familiar voice asked. I froze. Should I hang up?
“Before you hang up and tattle to your little boyfriend. I think you should know something…” The deep, husky voice trailed off. I felt a spark of curiosity.
“Who are you?” I demanded, gathering the little courage I had in me. The man laughed evilly.
“I think you should ask your boy toy about that. I’m sure he knows.”
“What do you mean?”
“All I’m saying is that Harry isn’t who he says he is,” the man spoke, clearly amused. I found myself getting frustrated.
“What the hell do you mean?!” I raised my voice, my eyes narrowed. The man laughed again.
“You know, I can explain everything to you. If you just tell me where you are,”
I frowned. Why would he need to know…? Oh. I quickly hung up and stood up. My hands started to tremble and my breathing kept catching in my throat.
“Babe, are you alright?” Harry called, appearing at the living room door. He was wearing his black boxers and no shirt.
I cleared my throat and smiled. “I’m fine; I think I’m going to go to bed.”
“Are you sure? It’s still quite early,” Harry frowned and reached for me. I quickly stepped back, pretending I didn’t see him and reached down to snatch my phone. Harry isn’t who he says he is… I shook my head and kissed Harry’s cheek quickly before scurrying to the bedroom. Who the fuck was that? How did he get my number? How does he know Harry? All of these questions raced through my head, pounding into my brain with force that it physically hurt.
I didn’t know what to feel or think. What do I think or feel? I don’t fucking know. I almost didn’t realize I was crying until I felt something wet drip down on my hand. I rubbed my eyes and buried the duvet over my head, pulling my knees up to my chest. I felt the mattress dip down as Harry pulled the covers up to his chin and turned on his side. I closed my eyes and pretended I was sleeping.
I think he thought I was asleep because he murmured something so quietly, so sadly to himself that made me frown.
“I’m so sorry I can’t tell you. I never wanted to be what I am. He made me. I love you,” Harry whispered that last part so lightly, but I heard everything. As I lay there, eyes wide awake, unable to sleep due to his confusing words and the broken sobs falling from the boy next to me.
Well since we won't have out laptops back until Monday here's a chapter 30 that we wrote a while back.
