Let me just tell you I am having the hugest sorry not sorry moment about this movella being pretty much all Taylor Swift. I know I always bring up her quotes and everything but I do feel like I expand on them and hopefully get some messages across haha! If there's anything you want me to talk about then please let me know in the comments and I'll try not to include a Taylor Swift quote in that chapter haha :)
That being said, of course this chapter is all about her. Because why wouldn't it be.
She recently released her new album 1989 and I'm completely in love with it. I'm going to talk about the songs soon but I just want to talk about the era for a moment. Taylor has an era that comes along with every album. Fearless was the era of her really becoming known and it was all sparkly dresses and love stories. Speak Now was the huge tour with the amazing songs and fireworks and it was the magical era. Red was like a transition, it was her starting to explore new things. It was predominantly the album of losing a love and I don't think that's a bad thing. It was an emotional album and a fun era at the same time. And now we have 1989 and I'm absolutely in love with it.
The album itself is incredible. There are so many different songs about so many different things and I'll get to that, but this era is amazing. She is so independent and happy and I love that. There's nothing wrong with being in love, I'm not saying that, trust me, I'm the last person in the world to think that (which you might guess by the recurring theme in my movellas haha!). I just find it inspiring that she is such a romantic but is still completely happy being by herself. I'm exactly the kind of girl who gets caught up in boys and relationships and I think it was important for me to see her so independent and happier than I've ever seen her.
Now for the songs. I just think every song has something great about it, not necessarily all inspirational messages and stuff, just something great and I wanna talk about that.
Welcome to New York
This is the first song on the album. For me, not only is it all about what an amazing place New York is, it's also about finding somewhere you just love. Somewhere you feel yourself and free and independent (maybe I'm a little bit obsessed with being independent, it's totally okay). Finding that place when you're just an adult is something that everybody should look forward to. I'm not going to blabber on more about independence but you get the idea haha!
This is my favourite on the album at the moment. It was actually written as a way of identifying the way media view her as this crazy girlfriend and she identified that and that's great in itself. I love that but all of Taylor's songs have a way of becoming about your own life when you listen to them (and she fully encourages that!) and for me, it's about being kind of reckless when it comes to a relationship. It's about meeting somebody, knowing it's going to go wrong and knowing it will hurt but still doing it anyway because it'll be exciting and fun and you're young so it's your time to make mistakes. I love that idea and maybe that's weird but I do.
This song is about a relationship where they are on and off and the boy keeps leaving and coming back and leaving and coming back and the girl knows she should just tell him to leave and stop because she knows exactly where it's going to go but she can't. It's about that frustrating feeling of wanting to just leave the whole relationship alone because it's never going to work in a million years but not being able to leave it alone because there are just so many things about the other person that you love. Style is just one of those songs that can be so relatable or you can have never have felt that frustration in your life but still love the whole story and style (no pun intended, I swear) of the song.
Out of the Woods
This is kind of like Style in the sense that you either relate to it or can tell the feeling just by listening to it. It's about that treacherous time at the start of a relationship where you're not quite safe, you're not really committed to each other but you're still in the relationship. It's about not knowing where it's going to lead if anywhere and about how that's a good and a bad thing all at once and I love that whole story that she tells.
All You Had To Do Was Stay
Every track five on every Taylor album is always a good break up song and that's what this is. This is the kind of song that you sit in your room and sing frustrated or sadly or angrily and just direct it at whoever has broken your heart even though they can't hear you and you know, there's nothing better than singing break up songs in your room while nobody hears you. Or is that just me? Either way, this is a perfect song for that event.
Shake It Off
Do I even need to talk about this? If I haven't already, then I'm sure you can imagine the kind of thing I'll say about how awesome and great it is. I'm pretty sure I've talked about it before anyway. HATERS GONNA HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE! Yeah, that'll do it.
I Wish You Would
This one is about how two people in a relationship never really communicated well and weren't very honest and then it didn't work but she wishes he'd just come back. You get the gist of that one. I really believe that honesty is the best policy, I don't think anything works if people aren't honest with each other. That's the main thing I've gotten from that song and I think it's a pretty good message.
This one is about a friendship gone wrong. I guess it's just fun to listen to whether you've fallen out with your friend or not, it's one of those songs that is just quite... I don't know the word, it just kind of calls somebody out and that kind of song is just fun to listen to.
This song breaks my heart. Personally, I link it to a book that I've read called Now Is Good (or Before I Die) and now whenever I listen to it I just sort of link it to that and I love that. But I love the song even if I didn't link it to that book. It's about them going their separate ways and her wanting him to remember her in a nice way, with 'red lips and rosy cheeks staring at a sunset' and it's just a nice, sweet song but sad at the same time. You really have to listen to that one to fully understand it.
How You Get The Girl
This has to be one of my favourites. It's basically about what a boy should do after he's broken a girl's heart to get her back. It's just so fun to listen to, it's everything you'd hope for a boy to do like stand in the rain and for him to tell you that he'd wait forever and ever and that he's sorry for breaking your heart but he'll put it back together. It's just fun to listen to and imagine.
This Love is a simple song but pretty beautiful. It's about that phrase about letting something go and if it comes back to you then it was yours and if it doesn't it was never yours to begin with. It's about this love being good and bad at the same time and how when you imagine falling in love, you never really expect that but it's better than you imagined either way. It's about the relationship being over and the boy leaving and you feeling hopeless but then he came back so it must be yours and it seems like it's meant to work and it's worth the effort. It's just a lovely song to listen to.
I Know Places
This song is amazing to listen to, you have to listen to it just to hear how amazing it sounds! But the lyrics and the story are great too. It's about two people being together when they're not meant to be and people trying to stop them but they don't care and they hide where nobody can find them. You get the gist with that, it's just such an amazing song.
This is a song about moving on and god knows I needed one of these in my life and everybody probably will at some point! A lot of moving on songs tend to be about how you don't need them in your life and you hate them and you're happy without them which is great but it's not always the truth. The truth (from what I've learned anyway, everybody is different) is that moving on isn't this clean process, it hurts and you miss the other person and you feel like you're making a mistake in forgetting. This song is saying of course it hurts, of course you miss them, but you know when you need to walk away and you should. It's saying that even though you miss it you shouldn't go back to it if you know how it's going to end and if you know it's going to hurt you. It's about embracing being free and clean and I love that.
Wonderland is a song about getting to far into love and rushing into things and what that can do. It's one of the songs that you have to listen to to understand how powerful it is, it's definitely one of my favourites. It just has this whole feel of making mistakes and being completely in love and maybe a little blind because of that which is kind of bittersweet. The song just has such a great atmosphere and story to it.
You Are In Love
Taylor wrote this song about the relationship between two of her friends and it's about her looking upon this relationship and just seeing how in love they are and I love that. It's so sweet that these two people are completely in love and it's like they're in their own little bubble and Taylor recognised that and felt inspired by it. The story of these two people is so sweet as well, they have both found the one time where they can actually make the relationship work and where it's worth it. It's just a sweet song.
This song is awesome. It's just so cool. It's about being young and dumb but knowing exactly what you're doing by making stupid mistakes at the same time. It's so fun and upbeat and honest and I love that.
So guys that is the entire album and my ramblings about it. Maybe you didn't find that interesting at all but I really wanted to get my views across about it and I hope you enjoyed it either way :)
Thanks for reading guys!
