I walked up the stairs and looked at the names of the apartments. I saw Harry’s name and his number and when we walked passed his door I stopped and looked at it.
“It’s been emptied already…”
“Is it locked?”
“Yeah but I have a key upstairs.”
“Can I see it?”
“Kerry I don’t think it’s such a good idea…”
“Please? I promise I’ll be safe.”
He looked at me for a long time as we stood there in the complex and were frozen in the position we had been in when I stopped to look.
“Sure but only for a short time.”
“I’ll be here in a second.”
Liam continued up the stairs and I kept standing there with my hand on the handle and waited for him to come back. It felt like he was taking long but he was back sooner than I thought and opened the door for me.
“Don’t take too long princess.”
He smiled at me and let me into the apartment before he left me be for a while.
I went in and closed the door behind me. This apartment was far from the Harry I knew. Designer furniture all over the place, music and a few things. Most of Harry’s personal stuff had been taken away and I guess his parents had done that when he passed. It had been a while and it needed to be done at some point even though it was really hard for them as well as it had been for me.
I went into what had been his bedroom. I felt scared of being here but not in the usual way because this wasn’t the Harry I had known. I saw that nothing had been touched in here. There was an undone bed like he used to have it. Some pictures on the chest of drawers and all of his things were around.
I found one of his shirts that he had been wearing a lot back home and suddenly lost. He told me it was gone but truth was he had been back in London. I took it and put it on just to cuddle it as a goodbye. I loved that shirt as well but I knew I couldn’t be wearing it and I already had enough of his shirts back home, and maybe even one with me.
I went over the pictures and looked closely at them. There was a group picture of him and 4 other boys. I found Liam on the picture as well and knew as soon as I saw it that this was the band. There were a picture of him and his mother as well. I knew his mother because she had been in town with Harry once, but I never got the chance to meet her, yet Harry had told me a lot about her. He loved his mother more than any other person I knew.
I opened the upper drawer and looked through all of his stuff. Rings, bracelets, necklaces and other accessories were in the drawer. I went through it, to see if there was something I wanted. Something I needed. I found one beautiful watch in the drawer and took it up to look at it. I then turned to the picture because I was sure one of the boys in the picture had been wearing the exact same watch. I put it into my pocked when I had found it on the picture and then closed the drawer before looked up and out of the window in the bedroom.
“I love you Harry. I’m sorry all this happened to you. I wish I could have seen you like the Harry Liam knew, but we’ve all changed and change is about to happen for me as well. I’ll always love you but right now I’ve got to move on. I’ve got to get going. I’ll come take some of this stuff as a memory of you but I’ve got to move on and get going with my life. It all killed us and I know I’ll be in trouble for so long but I can’t keep destroying myself. I love you baby. Sleep tight.”
I turned around only to look directly into some ice blue eyes and started screaming. I threw myself back on the floor and looked at the blonde little guy in front of me. I kept screaming and moving backwards even though he seemed calm and kept moving closer to me.
I soon heard someone on the stairs outside and the guy in front of me kept trying to get through to me, but Liam was soon in the room and yelled at him to get away from him.
The guys questioned him and I stopped screaming.
They looked at each other confused as I had curled myself up in the corner of the bedroom and kept hiding from the guy that Liam apparently knew.
“What are you doing here?”
“Just coming to get some of my stuff… the door was open so I hoped that it was all just a rumour and he was back.”
“It’s not just a rumour you know that…”
“And who’s the girl?”
“Oh…. No, I’m helping her and she wanted to come here….”
“And you just took her?”
“I didn’t have a choice.”
“You shouldn’t be here…”
“I know but we both needed it. And neither should you. It’s best to stay away.”
“I’m going home to Ireland tomorrow.”
“So ehm… Kerry I’m sorry I scared you and Liam it was… stay safe mate.”
The blonde guy left the apartment and Liam moved over to me and sat down on the bed before he helped me up from the floor and looked into my eyes.
“I was really worried about you.”
“Don’t be. I’m just glad you’re not hurt.”
“Who was that Liam?”
“That’s Niall Horan. He was a part of the band as well.”
“I recognised him from the picture.”
“The one over there.”
I pointed to the picture on the drawer and saw Liam get up and over to it, forcing me to come as he was still holding my hand.
“I remember this to as if it was yesterday.”
“You seemed happy.”
“I’m still happy. It’s just another type of happiness.”
“I found something for you.”
“Really? What is it?”
I showed him the watch and looked up at him.
“It’s the one you’re wearing on the picture. His stuff is still in this room and he has been here after he moved. How much did he lie to me Liam?”
“Let’s take that another day. I know why he was in London.”
“Let’s just get some rest first. It’s been a long day.”
I hugged him and followed him out of the apartment and made sure to lock the door behind me. It was strange. I felt strange. London felt strange on me and somehow I really just wanted to go home right now.
