I mentally curse myself as I guide Appa back to our campsite. I know how Aang feels for her, and I know how it would kill him, so WHY am I being so stupid.
'How could you do that. You swore to hide it. Your promised yourself you wouldn't try to even think about her.'
I can hear the adoration in Aang's voice as he questions Katara, but it's obvious to me that she doesn't return the feeling.
A smug feeling rises in my chest, but I squash it swiftly. The Avatar is my friend now, I shouldn't be smug about taking his girl.
And I haven't even taken her yet.
Yet? Why am I saying yet?
"We're here. Brace for impact!" I over exaggerate my voice, and I hear chuckles go through the Gaang, but one giggle makes lightening course through me.
Appa lands and I climb into the saddle, Sokka grabs Suki and helps her out, careful of the gash in her side.
Aang goes to help Katara, but he broke his arm fighting, so he can't.
She smiles at him sweetly and tries to stand.
The instant she begins to raise herself up, my arms go under her knees and around her shoulders.
Katara protests softly, "You don't have to-"
"I want to. You're hurt. And-", I pause, trying to figure out why the hell I was going to tell her I love her.
As I slide down Appa's side, Momo comes barreling toward Katara, chattering loudly. He curls up around my shoulders, laying his head on her arm.
"And what?" She looks me straight in the eyes, and I have to look away quickly before I get lost in the sea blue color.
"I...I'll tell you later."
She gives me a critical look, and I land on the ground, careful to not jar her.
"I pinky promise.", winking at her I walk to the fire pit and place her on the cushion Aang had placed down for her.
I turn to the wood pile and throw a few pieces in the old char and ashes. I spark it, but something is different.
The color of my fire surprises me and I look back at Katara, wonder in my voice, "What did you do when you healed me?"
She's just looking at me, her mouth slightly open, and I try to ignore the way her full lips frame gorgeous teeth.
I look around to see everyone else is doing the same.
"What? Why is everyone staring?!"
Sokka speaks first, "Dude...you...your scar is gone!"
My head spins and Suki is holding up her hand, a mirror reflecting back at me, in moments.
I snatch it from her and my jaw drops.
I touch the place where my scar used to be, and all I feel is smooth, new skin.
The mirror slips from my fingers as I spin towards Katara
I pull her into my arms, and without thinking my lips are on hers.
