She swings her sword on me, but I'm not at all surprised. She's very predictable.
I meet her blow, and growl at her, "Oh this will be fun."
Her eyes sparkle, and I watch as she slips into her stance, and pride burns in me as I realize she isn't thinking about it, it's already second nature.
I slip into my own, and we dance.
She swings, I block. I swing, she skips out of the way and tries to land another blow.
Already she can dodge my swings. Even if I wanted to hit her, I probably couldn't.
I notice a familiar pattern in her steps and blows, and I decide to question her.
"Are you using Water Bending stances?"
She giggles, "Yep. I caught it from you. You use some of your bending stances, and I remember you saying I have to use what works for me, so I did."
Pride hits me again and I beam at her.
She swings one last time, and I decide to let her win.
Her stick hits my chest, knocking me down, and in an instant she's on me.
Her legs straddle my waist, and her make shift blade is pressed to my throat softly.
I growl at her playfully, and she leans in and kisses my forehead, "Good duel, Zuko. Thanks for letting me win."
She sticks her tongue out at me, and when her eyes scrunch up I snatch her blade from her. I flip us over to where I'm on top of her and pin her hands next to her head.
She struggles, and manages to roll us again.
We roll around over and over until we finally collapse side by side.
She lays her head against my arm, and we stare up at the stars silently.
Katara shivers when a cool breeze blows over us, and she presses closer to me.
I turn my head to look at her, wanting so badly to kiss her again.
She looks up to me, and I try to decipher the look in her eyes. She bites her lip, and I realize she must be thinking the same thing I am.
I reach over with my free arm and brush my fingers across her cheek, relishing the feel of her skin, soft against mine.
She smiles, and I kiss the tip of her nose.
We lay like that until she falls asleep. When I hear her breathing slow and deepen, I scoop my arm under her legs.
I walk to her tent and knock on the zipper softly.
Suki opens it and smiles when she sees Katara sleeping soundly. I lay Katara inside the tent on her pallet and smile down at her.
Her hand grips my shirt and she mumbles something that sounds like ,' Stay and cuddle.'
I chuckle at her, amazed at the way this little water bender can make me laugh just by being her.
She won't let go of my shirt, so I pull it over my head and leave it with her, watching happily as she cuddles into it.
"Good night Katara. Good night Suki. Thank you for waiting up."
"No problem. Sweet dreams, Zuko."
As I walk to my tent I say to myself, "As long as she's in them, they couldn't get any sweeter."
