16. Bribery and truth
"You have begun to be quiet?"
Niall looked at me and he looked worried. I knew that I couldn't admit that Liam had been all over me. I was too embarrassed and I knew everyone would believe him than me.
"There's a lot at work."
Niall sat down next to me on the couch and took his arm around my shoulder.
"You're going to work yourself to death over there?"
I gulped and looked at the television. I was tired all over and I couldn't think clearly. I felt just small and I didn't dare admit to Niall about what had happened.
"My parents are coming this weekend." said Niall suddenly and I balked.
He smiled and kissed me lightly on the cheek.
"They want to meet the girl who changed their son."
I blushed, I panicked and I just stared at him. Niall laughed lightly and looked at the TV again.
"They wont bite you."
I was still unsure.
"You mean I'm going to meet them because they want to meet me?"
Niall laughed and looked at me again.
"Don't telling me that they make you nervous, you've changed me and that's was bigger than them."
"I know, but it's still a big deal to see them?"
Niall kissed me again and smiled at me.
"Come on, sweetheart. You can do it."
Liam held off. I was relieved and I put all the energy at work. I tried to do a good job and I put my effort into everything. Right as it was popped up Louis and I was surprised. He came into my room and smiled big.
"How's it going?"
I smiled and I chose to lie.
He sat down on one of the chairs in front of my desk and looked at me with an amused look.
"Liam has talked a long time about that he wants to have with you in the house., I didn't think you would say yes."
"No other wanted me and he was my last choice, but it's a job."
Louis raised an eyebrow.
"So you didn't get job anywhere else?"
I shook my head and felt like a bad lawyer.
"I was too young or did they want a girl with experience."
Louis laughed a little bit and leaned against the desk.
"Have you heard about bribes?"
"What does that have to do with me?"
Louis smiled and he looked at me with meaning eyes.
"Liam has contacts everywhere, and he's been with at law firms when he has needed help. Now he want's you and then it's easy to send a little extra money and ask them to say no to you." He looked at me long before he continued. "You had top grades and was among the best in class? Nobody would say no to such a girl."
I was just flabbergasted.
"So Liam paid them to say no?"
Louis leaned back.
"It sounds like that for a fact."
I went into Liam's office and I threw my name tag in front of him.
"I resign myself!"
Liam was amused and leaned back in his chair.
I was angry, I felt anger throughout the body.
"You bribed everyone else so they would deny me a job and you bribed them not to accept me."
Liam raised his eyebrows.
"Oh, have you any proof?"
I realized that I had no evidence, but I didn't want to be on that place.
"I won't stay here." I said and turned to the door. Liam laughed.
"And you think that a single firm will hire a whore?"
I spun around.
"I'm not a whore?"
"If you leave this edifice, I will spread out how you flirted with me to get a better salary, then no one, I mean NO ONE, to want to hire you."
I was living in a nightmare. I didn't live that life I had planned and I hated myself. Why did I called Liam and asked for a job? I realized that I wouldn't get help from a single person, but I also realized that I had to tell the truth to Niall. I owed him that. The problem was that his parents came to visit and I didn't know if I would say anything before or after their visit.
