"Dad?" I opened the front with anticipation.
"I'm in here," he said. He was sitting at the landing with a...woman. "This is Virginia."
Oh my god. No. No, no, no, no!!!
"Dad," I stuttered. "No. I don't want a stepmom!"
"Calm down, Addie," Virginia said.
"No one else calls me Addie except my mom! And you are the farthest thing from 'mom'!"I yelled and stormed up the stairs.
My life was ruined. It was supposed to be me and my dad, Addie and Mark, against the world. Now it was Virginia and Mark, ignoring Addie.
I decided to text one of my close friends, Eric.
Eric: Hi. What's up?
Me: I just found out that my dad is getting remarried to this dumb southern bitch tht I've never met.
Eric: Yeesh...that's hard. Do you want me to come over? I'll help u pack for LA
Me: Tht sounds great. See u soon
He wasn't my best friend, but we were pretty close.
In about fifteen minutes, I heard a knock at the door then chambering up the steps.
"Hey," Eric said, knocking on the door.
"Hi," I said, with tears in my eyes.
"Hey, hey, hey. Don't cry." He pulled me into a big hug.
"My life is falling apart," I cried into his shoulder.
He lifted my head up with his finger, bringing my gaze to meet his. Then, he kissed me. But the weird thing is, I kissed him back.
I broke the kiss.
"Wow," he said. "That was, surprisingly, my first kiss."
"Me too," I said, blushing.
"Still need help packing?"
We stood up and grabbed my purple suitcase from under my bed.
"Is that stupid Virginia slut still downstairs?" I asked.
"Yeah," he replied quietly.
"Now I can't go downstairs," I threw my hands in the air and collapsed on the bed. Eric sat down beside and ran his fingers through my long hair. "It'll all work out for the better."
"I hope so," I sat up and hugged him around the waist, my head falling in his lap.
He sat me up and looked me in the eyes. "Cheer up, we're gonna pack your bags and I will force you to be happy."
I laughed. "Okay fine," I stood up and pulled things out of my drawers to pack into my bag.
After I got done packing, Eric offered to drive me over to Chrissy's. I accepted, of course. We clamored down the stairs, hoping Virginia didn't notice our existence.
"Addie," my dad grabbed my shoulder, trying to prevent me from waking out the door. "Adelaide!"
I stopped and slowly turned around.
"What?" I asked furiously. "You- you want to try to ruin my life by marrying her?"
"Don't you want me to be happy?"
"I do! But I know she is going to leave you! Or break your heart by driving herself off a bridge!" I crossed the line. My dad immediately starting to get tears in his eyes. "I'm sorry."
"You- you should go to Chrissy's. I'll see you when I get back," my dad said.
"I guess I should. Bye, dad." I can't believe I did that. I just can't wait to get to Chrissy's to forget about all this.
IN CHRISSY'S DRIVEWAY___________________________
"So, I'll see you soon?" Eric asked awkwardly as we sat parked in Chrissy's driveway.
I ignored his question by pulling him into a passionate kiss. It was interrupted, sadly, by Chrissy.
"Hey, Addie-- ohh,"
Eric looked up to meet Chrissy's eyes then looked away, obviously embarrassed.
"Wow, I didn't know you guys were a 'thing'," Chrissy eyed me.
"Well," I managed to stutter. "We aren't 'official', but we are- you know what? Never mind, Eric. This never should've happened. I'm sorry."
Eric looked at me, clearly saddened by the thought of us not going out or being boyfriend and girlfriend.
"Ok, well you should get going," he said, pissed off.
"Well, excuse me if I'm not ready for a serious relationship right now," I retorted, getting out of the car.
"Bye, Addie. See you around," he remarked and drove off.
