When she opened her eyes she was at an unfamiliar place. For a moment she panicked, but then she recognised Kwangmin’s familiar figure sitting beside her. A very painful look in his eyes. She panicked again. Why is he hurt? “Hy-hyung” she said with as much strength as she could manage. But it only came out as a whisper.
“Oh. You’re awake!” he said relived. “Jungie-ah you had me worried there!”
She smiled. She couldn’t help it. She just wanted to smile when she saw his face.
“Jungie-ah, I think you should tell me what’s going on now” he said while looking right into her eyes. She sighed. She couldn’t avoid it now. She told him about Woojin, about the violence, the marks, the abuse, the nightmares. Everything. Except for the scars. She saw his eyes grow wide with horror as herealised the extent of what she had been through. It was much worse than he had first expected. He felt so sad and so angry seeing her like this, hearing about all this.
She unconsciously held her arm close to her body while speaking. Of course Kwangmin noticed this and took her arm, she whined and pulled it back. “No!” she screamed. “Minjungie-ah” he said with a firm voice. He grabbed her arm again, not letting her pull back this time. He gently tugged her sleeve up and saw the red marks on her arm. Some old, some fresh. “Oh my god” he let out. A tear fell from his eye and he hugged her tightly “Why didn’t you tell me about this?” She started crying uncontrollably and her whole body shook with all the fear, pain, regret and hurt she felt. Kwangmin just continued to hug her rubbing soothing circles into her back with his hand until she finally calmed down and started speaking with a voice barely above a whisper. “I couldn’t. I couldn’t drag you into all this too. I was afraid I would lose you. That you would hate me.” He let go of her and looked into her eyes. “Minjungie-ah. I will never leave you. And I could never hate you. Okay?” he hugged her again, closer than before and whispered into her ear: “I’ll save you! I’ll definitely save you!” And for the first time in a very long time, she felt like she could breathe again. Like maybe, just maybe, everything could be okay again.
But fear soon took over again as she thought of Woojin. He won’t let me go. He will never let me leave him.
She started crying again, but Kwangmin just held her close, until she drifted off to sleep again. Exhausted from all the crying.
When she woke up, she was still in Kwangmin’s arms. He was snoring lightly with his mouth slightly open. She chuckled to herself. He was really adorable when he slept. The sound of her chuckling woke him up. “Jungie-ah, how are you feeling?” he asked. She thought about it for a minute. Not really sure what to say. She still felt like she was about to explode from all the pain and hopelessness. But somehow being with Kwangmin helped to calm those feelings down a bit. “I’m better hyung.” she said and tried to smile a bit. Kwangmin held her tighter.
“Jungie-ah” he said after a while. She looked curiously at him “What is it hyung?” He took a decision, breathed in heavily, let go and said: “I love you, Jungie-ah.”
She looked at him, eyes widened in surprise. “You… You d-do?” she said, stuttering from the surprise. Could anyone really love her? She didn’t think so. Not anyone as broken as her. He probably just pitied her. “Hyung. It’s not something you should say out of pity. It only makes it wor…” she didn’t get to end her sentence before she felt his lips on hers. Gently silencing her. First she was completely frozen with surprise. But then she noticed how gentle he was, how much feeling he put into the kiss. And she could feel that he loved her. Really loved her. She kissed him back just as intensely as he kissed her. Wrapped her arms around his neck to pull him in closer as he wrapped his arms around her waist to do the same. After a few minutes they both pulled away for air. She rested her forehead against his. “I love you too hyung” she said and smiled. She meant it. She really did love him. Why had it taken her so long to realise it? They stayed like that for a long time. Just looking into each other’s eyes.
But now came the worst part.
