First period sucked. It was long and boring and frankly I'm already done with this day before it even started. Mr. Garcia spent no time reviewing what we already learned the previous year, and giving us a packet to finish by the end of the week. There's nothing better than getting homework on the first day of school.
I looked at my schedule. Choir. I could do that. This is probably the only thing that I actually look forward to in school. Well, besides lunch of course. I quickly walked to my next class, not wanting to be late again.
All I have to do is get through this day, and everything will be fine.

The school bell rang signaling the end of fourth period.
"Yes, time for lunch!" The girl with blue and purple hair, who I've come to know as Jennifer screamed out.
"Gisselle, do you want to come eat lunch with me and my friends?"
"What? You want me to join you? Are you sure?" I wasn't used to people talking to me, let alone inviting me to join them.
"Of course I am! We're friends aren't we?"
"Well, do you want to be my friend?" I asked her.
"Oh Gisselle you're so funny! Of course I do! Why would you think I wouldn't want to be your friend?"
"Well, not a lot of people usually want to talk to me, let alone be my friend." I confessed.
"Aw, I'm sorry. Those people don't know what they're missing out on. I'm sure my friends would love to meet you. Now, come on. I'm starving!" Jennifer said while dragging me toward the cafeteria at the same time. I was too stunned to fight back.
I can't believe it! Someone actually wants to be my friend!
But wait what if this is just some cruel trick she is trying to play on me?
Ah, there you are. I was wondering when you would get here. You always seem to have something negative to say.
See what I mean?
"I really need to stop talking to myself." I muttered under my breath.
We arrived in the cafeteria and I was immediately dragged to a table where four people were sitting. Jennifer stopped in front of the table still holding onto my arm, as if she was afraid that I would try to get away.
"Guys, this is Gisselle. Gisselle, this is Jorge, Kathryn, Johnny, and Angel." Jennifer said, and looked at me with an encouraging smile. I looked at the group of people at the table. They were all staring at me, as if expecting me to say something.
"Um, hi?" I said nervously. I really needed to work on my social skills.
I looked to Jennifer, and saw that she was smiling at me with this huge grin on her face. She then sat down at the table and motioned for me to sit down at the the empty seat that was next to her. I sat next to her, not sure what to do next.
"So guys, this is Gisselle Foster. Before she came here she had lots of friends that were popular, so we have to try and step up to meet her standards. Isn't that right Gisselle?"
I turned to look at Jennifer, completely shocked. She turned to me and gave me a small wink, as if to say "this will be our little secret." I nodded at the rest of them, going along with her plan.
Wow, she could have told them the truth. But instead she lied so I could seem more popular than what I really am. Is this what true friendship feels like?
The four of them turned to each other for a brief moment and then turned back to me, with an evil grin on their faces.
"Well looks like we have us a little competition, right guys?" Kathryn said.
"Of course we do Kathryn. We can't let those other snot nosed popular losers beat us. No way. We're gonna show them that 5 regular teenagers can be better friends than those brats." said Johnny with a smirk on his face.
Jennifer rolled her eyes and shook her head. "Why does everything have to be a competition with you two?"
"Oh come on Jen, you know you love it. Isn't that right Kathryn?"
Yup. Besides, we do it because its fun and it keeps us from being bored with life. You should try it sometime."
"Whatever. I'm gonna go get some food. I'm starving. Come on Gisselle, we'll decide on what we want to eat together."

The rest of the day went by pretty fast, and it turns out I have at least one class with each of my "new friends." I had a ton of homework to do, but the good thing is it isn't due until Friday. As I was heading to the bus to go home, I heard someone from behind me call my name. I turned around and saw Jennifer running towards me, with her books in her hand.
"Hey Gisselle, tomorrow when you get to school go to the cafeteria and sit at the same table we sat at during lunch. We're all gonna eat breakfast. Okay?"
She didn't even give me a chance to say yes before she was already running to her bus. When I arrived home I went into my room and sat on my bed thinking about the events that happened today. I somehow managed to embarrass myself in front of a cute boy, I made 5 friends, and I have enough homework to make my brain explode. All in a few short hours.
I decided to go take a hot shower, to relax myself. When I got out of the shower I went downstairs and saw my mom in the kitchen making dinner.
"Oh Gisselle honey, how was school today?"
"It was okay. Where is Michelle?"
"Oh she went upstairs to get ready for dinner. Come help me set up the table since you seem to be ready."
As soon as we finished setting up the table Michelle came running down the stairs in her pajamas screaming "FOOD! FOOD! FEED ME FOOD!"
"Just in time Michelle. Now, sit down at the table and I will fix your food. You too Gisselle."
Dinner was quiet, except for when Michelle would talk between mouthfuls of food. It was gross really, since she would be so excited to say something that she would forget to wait to finish swallowing her food first. When I was done I excused myself from the table, put my dish in the sink, and went into my room. I sat on my bed, my brain going back to what happened at school today. I smiled to myself. I finally found people who actually wanted to be my friend. Today was a good day. After my food went down I decided to go to sleep, too exhausted to do any homework. Just as I was falling into a deep sleep, a picture of me with my new friends flashed across my mind.
Maybe starting over won't be so bad after all...
