Chris gave me a death glare. "What?" i asked, "I just said she and her kids could stay here. That doesn't mean i'm in love with her. It means i'm a nice person." I smirked, but she was still glaring.
"Even if she has kids doesn't mean that she won't try to steal you away." Chris retorted.
"That's what you're afraid of? Chris, her husband died! Give her a break!" I yelled, expecting her to back away.
"As much as I'm sorry for her, I know that the two of you have a history. A long one, too. It's all the more reason for her to want you back." I guess it only made it worse. I still was really shocked that she didn't trust me to stay faithful.
"Even if Katniss did want me back, which she doesn't, you know I would never do that to you. I love you, Chris." Chris just gave me the cold shoulder and walked away. I shook my head and walked back to find a room for Katniss and her kids. I emerged in the doorway to find Katniss's kids playing with some of my old childhood toys.
"So, you guys know my name, but I don't know yours." I gave them an opening to respond, hoping they would take it.
"I'm Willow." The girl said. She hid behind her long dark hair, which reminded me of Katniss's.
"How old are you?" I asked her.
"I turned 5 yesterday." She said bashfully.
"Wow! 5 years old! You're so big already!" I said smiling. She giggled and introduced her 3 year old brother, Rye, and how has a speech impediment. She tried and failed multiple times to say the word 'impediment'. I turned around to see Katniss watching us. "How long have you been standing there?" I asked.
"A while." She replied. I said that she could stay in this room with the kids and explained where everything was. "...And Chris and i will be upstairs if you need us." I said. I walked upstairs to see Chris sitting on the edge of the bed looking quite upset. "What's wrong?" i sat down on the bed next to her.
"You know what's wrong." she sighed.
"Come on, you have nothing to worry about." I wrapped my arm around her, but she just shook her head.
"You don't get it. Put yourself in my shoes. The single ex-girlfriend of the man I'm in love with-"
"We never actually date." I interjected. Chris rolled her eyes.
"A single girl who has kissed the man I'm love with is staying in our home and he might still have feelings for her. How do you think that makes me feel?" Christine lowered her blue eyes to the ground.
"Listen, there may always be a part of me with feelings left for her, but i've known her for a long time, so that's hard to undo. And if your still worried, just know that she picked Peeta over me, so she's definitely not in love with me."
"But he's gone now!" She paused, "I'm sorry, that was harsh. I could never imagine the pain i would feel if i lost you. I should cut her some slack."
"That's my girl." I said. I leaned in until her soft lips collided with mine. I caressed the back of her neck and tangled my fingers in her hair. I pulled away and stared into her beautiful blue eyes, and felt as if she were staring into my soul. I checked the time on my watch and it read 10:32. On any other night, I might have stayed awake longer, but today had been a pretty weird day and I just needed some rest. I closed my eyes and fell sound asleep.
