The crime scene wasn't as scary as John would've thought, but the victims and their deaths made Riley feel light-headed. The crime scene was in a back way alley, the victims were two teenaged girls, and the death was unknown. No bullets, no open wounds. At least, that's what Lestrade said.
Lestrade and John began to put on protective suits and gestured to the girls to put one on. Ella put hers on as soon as possible; Riley was about to put one on when Sherlock slapped her hand away, making it only her and Sherlock who weren't wearing the suits. The three people of an audience looked at him in shock with faces that said "Sherlock, she needs a protective suit." But he didn't pay attention to the faces. He began to look at the bodies with careful eyes, Riley and Ella just watched him. Ella then felt like she was having a deja vu moment. She could've sworn Riley did something similar in eighth grade once.
"They were poisoned." Everyone looked up to Sherlock standing over the bodies. "The water bottle in Chelsea's hand had a violet substance around the rim and the cap was on, meaning they never saw it. When she unscrewed the lid to see what was wrong, it was too late."
"That's amazing." Riley said, astonished back by his intelligence.
Sherlock looked at her and replied "Shut up."
"Sorry." She muttered, almost embarrassed and he continued.
"Someone was obviously angry at both of them because both of their iPhones had the same unnamed contact on it. Not family members, they are both from different families. Now boyfriend, it seems more reasonable because they both have long texts from the number and they both are filled with anger. Even, they both have dark circles under their eyes meaning they both were either not sleeping because of something or they were at a sleepover."
Ella almost sniggered but then looked at Riley and remembered what happened when she thought Sherlock's intelligence was amazing. She kept it in as he continued.
"They probably were scared because he's probably abusive or he was threatening them on something. Now how he did it would be-" Sherlock stopped when he looked down and pulled up a sleeve on one of the girl's sleeve to reveal a tattoo made by a sharpie; it was of a snake head inside a diamond. He then looked at it and rose back up. "They were killed by men who kill for payment. The mark is the symbol of a group of paid assassins called Diamondback."
"I'm sure the Diamondback has been in more than one police report." John said but Sherlock shook his head.
"Diamondback is usually a quiet group; they do the job, get paid, and disappear." Sherlock answered.
"Then where do we come in?" Riley widened her eyes at her friend who asked the question.
"What I need you is to think," Sherlock answered "as teens, you have to have minds like them. I need to know why would these girls be targets by the same person."
Riley thought about it for moment and answered "One of the girls is having affairs, the boyfriend is drinking, the boyfriend wants their life insurance money."
It wasn't much but Sherlock nodded.
"Those could be good ideas," Sherlock answered "but the drinking idea is not needed because the texts are not with random icons which means his eye sight was okay when he was texting."
"Unless he was sober when he was texting." Riley said quickly, earning shocked looks from people that read "Did she just outsmart THE Sherlock Holmes?" Sherlock didn't do anything, but continued to look at her. Riley waited for something to happen, but nothing happened. A long silence came before John spoke up.
"So the only ideas of the purpose would be affairs and life insurance?"
Sherlock moved from Riley to John and said "All three options could add up together. The boyfriend was drinking, moved from one friend to another, both girls wanted to have affairs because of the drinking. When he heard about this, he paid men for both girls too be killed and took their insurance money after that."
Lestrade then spoke up as well "So this could all add up?"
"Of course," He answered "I have a feeling that this 'boyfriend' wants us to know about something. And we'll be keeping Ella and Riley in the mean time."
