"But mommy I don't want to go to school." My four year old self whined.
"Kara Bear it's your first day. You have to. I promise you you'll love it." My mom said.
"But mommy I wont know anyone there." I whined not letting her go from the hug.
"Kara you'll love it and when you get home we can go get some ice cream. Now go." She said letting go.
"Ok mommy I'll see you after school." I said walking to the school yard.
"Kara." I heard someone day.
"Hello?" I asked confused.
"Kara." I heard a voice say. Then I woke up. I was in a hospital bed. I looked around and saw my mom and dad and a doctor standing around me.
"Where am I?" I asked.
"Kara your in the hospital. The doctor here just did surgery on your wrist. You really broke it." My mom said.
"Are we leaving now?" I asked.
"You seem fine. And you woke up from the laughing gas and you don't seem drowsy. You are fine to go home. Just check out at the front desk." The doctor said walking out.
I got up and saw my wrist was in a brace. I walked slowly to the front desk with my mom. I saw she had my phone and I remembered I had to call Luke.
"Mom can I have my phone?" I asked and she handed it to me. Once we checked out and I we were outside the hospital and in the car driving home I called Luke. It was even harder because my phones a touch screen and my left hand isn't a coordinated as my right. Finally after calling my mom three times I hit Luke's number.
"Hello?" I heard Luke say on the other line.
"Hey Luke." I said happily.
"Oh hey Kara you're out of the hospital?" He asked.
"Ya I just got out. I should be home any minute. What are you doing?" I asked.
"Well I have math right now so I'm standing outside the school." He said.
"Wait your skipping school and the best place to go was standing outside the school?" I asked confused.
"Well I'm standing at the back with the guys." He said.
"You really need to find a new place to hide. I could call the school right now and tell them where you are." I said.
"But you wouldn't right?" Luke asked and I could tell he was getting nervous.
"Maybe I will maybe I wont. But don't forget to bring my homework after school. I don't care if my writing hand wrist is broken I am determined to do all my work while I'm gone." I said determined.
"You're right Kara us being friends is weird. We have you who always gets her work done and then there's me that skips and never get their work done." Luke said.
"I told you. But I'll see you later because we just got home and my parents have to go out so I have to watch the house." I said.
"See you soon Kara." Luke said before he hung up. I put my phone in my pocket and shortly after we arrived at my house.
"Now remember Kara your dad and I are going out now. I really don't to leave you alone when you're like this but your dad and I promised last month that we'd be at this charity dinner." My mom said. As she quickly changed.
"I'm fine mom but why are you leaving so early if it's a dinner?" I asked.
"The dinner is two hours away from here." My mom said putting on a pair of hoop earrings.
"Ok I'll see you tomorrow." I said as she hugged me quickly and so did my dad. They both then walked out the door and locked it behind them. I looked at the clock and it read 3:15. They should be coming soon. So I just grabbed my book and tried to read with my left hand. It was hard at first but I got the hang of doing.
And I was right ten fifteen minutes later I heard a knock at my door.
"Coming!" I yelled putting a bookmark in my book and walking over to the door. No was the hard part opening the door. I unlocked the door but I was having trouble turning the knob. "Hang on." I said and finally I opened the door. "Hi." I said to them as they walked in.
"Hey Kara Calum's got your homework. Can we come in?" Luke asked. I nodded and they walked in and Calum was in the back holding my homework that consisted of four textbooks and two or three hand outs.
"How much homework do you get?" Calum asked putting my homework on the little table besides the door.
"Oh I kinda ask for more homework then the kids in my class because I finish it so fast." I said.
"Well then. I wish I had your smarts." Calum said.
"Nice so what do you want to do?" I asked awkwardly.
"Well what do you do for fun?" Luke asked.
"Well you guys will probably think this makes me seem even more like a geek but I do math for fun. Either that or I read." I said.
"Well you need some more hobbies." I heard someone mumble but I couldn't tell who.
"Wait that reminds me can you guys just wait here for a second. I need to get something from my room." I said running across the living room to the stairs. I ran up the stairs and ran to my room. I was trying to find my laptop. Then I heard the door to my room open. I looked behind me and saw they had followed me to my room.
"This is your bedroom?" They all asked surprised.
"Ya my dad has a pretty good business job so he travels a lot and I guess it makes us a far amount of money. But I don't really tell people much because they'll treat me different and I don't wan them to." I said simply still looking for my laptop.
"Kara you have a king size bed all to yourself and it looks like you have a huge closet." Luke said shocked.
"Ya I also have my own bathroom and a balcony that looks over the city skyline it's really beautiful. If you want to look out on the balcony just go through those french doors." I said and they walked over and I heard the doors open. I then felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around and saw Michael. I haven't talked to him in forever.
"What are you looking for?" He asked.
"My laptop. I thought I put it on the self beside my bed but it's no here." I said still looking on the shelf.
"Do you mean the one on your desk?" He asked. I looked over and sure enough it was there.
"Yes." I said pushing myself up with my left hand. "So Michael how have you been?"
"I've been fine. I'm sorry what happened a couple years ago. We both are we didn't mean to just to leave you." He said sadly.
"It's fine I don't really hold grudges so I just let it go. I must admit that sometimes being alone is lonely but most of the time I don't mind. It gives me time to do stuff like read my books." I said trying to open my laptop.
"Here let me help." He said grabbing my laptop and opening it for me.
"Thanks I'm still learning how to do things with just my left hand." I said turning it on. "So how have you been?"
"I've been fine. Hanging with these guys is always and adventure." He said smiling.
"That's sounds like fun. I've shared my own adventures but they are in books." I said opening Google Chrome.
"What are you bringing up?" He asked.
"Oh I guess I should tell you. I have a blog and it gets really good reviews but I don't tell anyone about it because on there I'm a different person I guess. In reality I'm this shy person but on there I can say what I feel and no one knows who it is." I said slowly starting to type.
"Well what are you posting?" He asked.
"That I'm not going to be on for a little bit because I'm not going to be able to." I said posting.
"Oh what happened with the whole arm thing?" He asked.
"Oh a group of cheerleaders pushed me to the ground because they're jealous because they think I'm dating Luke and they like him and ya." I said.
"Well are you?" He asked.
"No we're not. We're just friends. I think this is the longest conversation you and I have had in a long time." I said quickly changing the topic.
"Ya it has." Then Luke, Ashton and Calum walked through the doors and they all looked excited.
"Kara that balcony is amazing!" Luke yelled.
"Thanks but quiet down I have neighbours you know that?" Luke then kept quiet. "Hey guys thanjs for coming over but my parents should be home soon and I forgot to tell them you were coming over. So I'll talk to you guys tomorrow." I said walking back out to the living room.
"But Kara we don't have your phone number." Ashton said.
"Ok put your numbers in my phone and I'll out mine in yours." So the three of them passes me their phones and I put my number in and took a picture of myself for all three. Once I got my phone back they left and I finished all my homework in two hours. And my parents had gotten home in that time so I went to bed after I finished it.
