I woke up with my head still on my math textbook. I quickly sat up and saw I was still wearing my glasses. I walked to the bathroom and hopped in the shower hoping that it would wash away all the events that happened yesterday. I decided not to think about what happened yesterday. I decided I would move on and forget about Luke and just forget about everything he said. It probably meant nothing to him. I knew us being friends could never work. But there was still that part of me that wished it could.
I got out of the shower and blow dried my hair and saw the ringlets forming at the ends of my hair. I walked into my room and into my closet and looked around and decided to wear some navy blue skinny jeans with a shirt that said LOVE with red poka dots and it was on a gray shirt, and I just wore my black hoodie like I did yesterday. And since I was already wearing my glasses I didn't have to grab them. I packed all my stuff in my bag and walked down into the kitchen. I looked in the fruit bowl and we only had bananas left. And I was upset because apples were my favourite fruit. But I just ignored it and grabbed a banana.
I was about to walk to the front door when I heard my dad speak. I couldn't believe he was back. He was in China for a couple months because he was doing business there. I quickly dropped my backpack where it was and ran over and hugged him.
"You're home." I said hugging him.
"Kara your mom told me what happened last night. Do you want to talk about it when you get home from school?" He asked.
"No dad it's fine I've moved on from it. I'm not going to let it bother just like before." I said releasing him from the hug.
"That's my girl. Have a good day at school." He said. I slipped on my black and gray Vans and waved to him before I stepped out the door. Once I closed the door behind me I took a big breath in and told myself that no matter what happened today I wouldn't start crying.
I walked up on the school property and immediately Luke stepped in front of me blocking my way to the school.
"Excuse me." I said moving to my left but he just followed my movements.
"Kara I'm sorry you heard that." He said.
"It's fine I'm used to it. I'm used to be used so I don't really care you can tell everyone my secrets at the end of the week. It wont change anything. All that's going to happen is their going to make up new nicknames for me and they'll probably pull more pranks on me and stuff but you get used to this happening." I said and since he was in shock of what I said I took this to my advantage and walked past him and went into the school.
I was walking down the halls and felt like all the girls were staring at me. I think it's because I was hanging out with Luke and since basically every girl in the school liked him I think they thought we were dating. Then a group of cheerleaders who I knew had crushes on Luke came up to me and shoved me to the ground. Which knocked my glasses off. I must have looked like an idiot trying to find them because I heard them laughing. Then someone handed me my glasses and saw it was Luke again.
"Are you ok?" He asked.
"Ya I'm fine." I said but I really wasn't when they pushed me to the ground my wrist broke my fall and now my wrist really hurt.
"You sure?" He asked.
"Ya I'm fine. Ow." I said holding my right wrist. Great it just had to be the hand I write with.
"Kara I think you should go to the nurse's office." Luke said.
"Luke I'm fine really I think I just sprained my wrist." I said still holding my wrist. Then Luke stood up and stuck his hand out towards me. Without thought I gave him right hand as soon as he pulled just a little it hurt like crazy. I immediately let go holding my wrist.
"I knew you hurt yourself. I'll grab your stuff we are going to the nurse's office." He said grabbing my books. I really couldn't argue with him because knowing he's Luke and I've seen him get into actual fights and see him winning he kinda scared me. So with my left hand I pushed myself off the ground and Luke walked with me to the nurse's office.
"Luke why are you so nice to me?" I asked.
"What I can't be nice to someone?" He responded with a question.
"Hello your Luke Hemmings one of the four worst kids in school. I've seen you push grade nine's in lockers and every time someone talks to you. You always shove them of or tell them to leave you alone your never nice to anyone besides Calum, Ashton and Michael." I said.
"I guess I'm nice to you because I've never really noticed you and once I did I saw how mean people were to you and I guess it looked like you needed someone to make sure you didn't get hurt. Any ways how did this happen?" He asked.
"I was walking down the hallway and all the girls were staring at me because they were jealous because they thought we were dating. So a group of cheerleaders I knew liked you came up and pushed me to the ground." I said simply like it didn't bother me which it didn't.
"Has this always happened to you because you sound as though it doesn't bother you." He said worried.
"See and since you never really paid attention to me because no one ever did. You would have noticed that this happens all the time. People knock my books out of my hand and they sometimes hit the back of my head knocking my glasses off my face just to watch me scramble to find them. Actually I remember on time when you hit the back of my head knocking off my glasses." I said.
"I really did that?" He asked upset.
"Ya you did and then I'm pretty sure either Michael or Calum knocked my books out of my hand at the same time." I said.
"Well I guess I should apologize on our part." He said.
"It's fine really I'm used to it. Though most of the time it's other girls that do that to me." I said then i saw we were almost at the nurse's office. "Oh look we're hear." I said.
We walked into the office and the nurse came over.
"So who's hurt?" She asked. Luke then pointed at me. "What happened?" She asked guiding me over to a bed.
"I was in the hall and I tripped and fell and my wrist broke my fall." I said. I don't really like getting someone in trouble.
"Um no that's not what happened a group of cheerleaders came over and pushed her to the ground and her wrist broke her fall and I think it may be broken." Luke said.
"Is he telling the truth?" The nurse asked and I just shook my head yes. "So who was in the group?"
"It was the cheerleader captain and her co-captains." I said quietly.
"Thank you for making her tall the truth Luke." She then came over and lightly touched my wrist and I let out a little sob of pain. "Yep it's broken. Kara we'll call your parents and get them to take you to the hospital."
"No I can't I've never missed a day of school in my life and I want to keep it that way." I protested.
"I'm sorry but you have to go to the hospital. Luke can stay here and keep you company till you leave. Luke I'll tell your teachers where you are. I'll be back I'm going to the office." The nurse said walking out the door.
"I can't ruin my perfect record." I cried.
"Why is this record so important to you?" Luke asked.
"Because no one has ever had a perfect record since a decade ago and I was hoping to have a perfect attendance record." I said sadly.
"Kara do you still have my cell number?" Luke asked.
"Um no I tore it into pieces and threw it out because I was upset with you last night." I said.
"I don't blame you. But how about we do this you put your number in my phone and I'll put mine in yours." He said handing me his phone and I handed him mine.
I used my left hand and even though it was hard I did it and took a picture of myself quickly and gave him his phone back and he did the same thing as me.
"Great call me when you get out of the hospital and tell me how long you'll be gone so then I'll bring you your homework." He said. I couldn't help but laugh. "What's so funny?"
"You're the one who's being funny. Every time I see you your either skipping class, beating someone up or your doing something that gets you in trouble. I never thought I would see the day that Luke Hemmings brought a girl her homework." I laughed.
"Hey I'm still that bad boy I usually am." He said in a threatening tone. I still laughed.
"I'm sorry I still find it funny. And how are you going to drop off my homework if you don't know where I live?" I asked.
"I'll get Calum and Michael to show me and all four of us can come over and hang out with you." he said.
"That sounds great." I said then the nurse walked in.
"Kara your parents will be here in ten minutes to pick her up. And I told your parents that your boy friend Luke brought you to the nurse's office and your parents said that if he wanted he could come with you to the hospital." She said.
"Well first of all he's not my boy friend he's my friend and he's going to stay here to get my homework right?" I said looking at him.
"Ya I'll stay here and get her homework." He said.
"Ok then Kara I'll tell your teachers that Luke's going to be picking up your homework while your gone." She said. Then my parents walked in and my mom looked like she was about to have a panic attack my dad was as concerned as my mom was but didn't show it.
"Kara are you ok?" My mom asked coming over to the bed I was lying on.
"Yes mom I'm fine if it wasn't for Luke I probably would have never came to the nurse office and I probably wouldn't have made a new friend." I said happily. My mom ran up to Luke and gave him a hug Luke's face was really confused. But then I heard my mom say.
"Thank you so much for making my little girl finally have friends." She said to Luke and I almost started to cry.
Luke then left the nurse office and my parents and I went to the car. On the car ride there my mom was talking with my dad so I just took out my headphones and started to listen to some Hedley. It was nice to think I had friends again. I never really thought I would ever have friends again.
