I was standing where I told Luke where to meet me. I had been waiting for a half hour. I had already walked home and put my stuff in my room and I was about walk home again when I heard someone yelling my name. I turned and saw Luke.
"Finally. You know I've only been waiting a half hour." I said annoyed.
"Sorry I got detention and I had to clean all the black boards on the first floor." He said and to make sure he wasn't lying I looked down at his hands and saw they were all pruned.
"How in the-. Never mind just follow me and I'll show you the coffee shop." I said waving my hand for him to follow me.
"So can you answer me a question while we're walking?" He asked.
"Ya sure what is it." I responded.
"What happened between you Calum and Michael?" He asked. I think that's going to be the worst question to answer out of all of the ones he's going to ask.
"Well it's complicated but not at the same time.." I started saying as we walked across the football field. "What happened is like how you know we were best friends in elementary school and the summer leading to high school we were still best friends. But once we came into high school they changed. They started to hang with you and Ashton more and they invited me to come hang with you guys but I knew what you guys were doing so we became distant and they became what they are now and I became a geek with no friends besides the characters in my books." I said and I looked up and we were across from the coffee shop. "Oh ya we're here. Ok lets see are there any cars coming." I said bending over looking down both side of the street and no cars coming so we crossed. "So this is the coffee shop." I said happily.
"You work at Starbucks?" He asked.
"Ya no one from school comes to this one because it's on the bad part of town. But I've been working here since grade 10 and it's great. So if you still want to talk I can get us some coffee." I said as we were standing in front of it.
"Sure I'll get us a booth." He said as we walked inside.
"By the way what do you want I'm getting a French Vanilla." I said.
"I'll have the same as you." he said. I walked into the line and since no one was here we got our coffee's pretty fast. Once they were ready I grabbed the both of them and found Luke sitting in a booth right by the window. Why the window. I walked up to the booth and handed Luke his coffee.
"Thanks." He said.
"You know if anyone saw us I think they would get the wrong idea." I said.
"Why?" He asked. I think this guy is clueless.
"Because it would look like we're dating ." I said taking a sip from my coffee.
"Why would it look weird?" He asked.
"Because you're a bad boy and I'm a geek. It's just weird." I said simply.
"Well I don't find it weird. But going back to the questions. Do you really not have any friends besides the ones in your books?" He asked taking a sip from his coffee. "This is really good." He blurted out.
"I know their good that's why I order them." I laughed. "But going back to the question it's true my only friends are the characters from my book and ever since I lost Calum and Michael as my friends and since I didn't make new ones my mom always tells me to try and make friends." I said taking another sip of coffee.
"Well that's terrible. How can you not have friends?" He asked. I was about to answer when I looked out the window and saw Michael, Calum and Ashton walking towards Starbucks. I quickly hid under the table. Luke bent down to come face me.
"Kara what are you doing?" He asked.
"Look outside." I said he straightened up and saw Michael, Calum and Ashton walking over here. "Pass me my coffee I'm not here. And get them to leave as soon as possible." I whispered. Then I heard Luke scribble something down and he passed me a napkin. I opened it and saw it was a phone number.
"If I have to leave call or text me sometime. We should finish this conversation." He said then Michael, Calum and Ashton walked in and saw Luke and came and took a seat with him in the booth. Then they started talking.
"So Luke have you talked to our friend from elementary school?" I heard Calum say.
"Oh you mean Kara? I don't know why you guys ditched her she's actually a really nice person." Luke said.
"She was but it wasn't meant to last. But remember what you have to do at the end of the week." Michael said. What does he have to do?
"I know I have to tell all her secrets she tells me to the whole school." He said. So that's why he started to talk to me. He's just using me so he can ruin my life even more. I actually thought he was becoming a friend.
I saw they were all distracted by talking to each other. I quickly crawled out from under the table forgetting my coffee but I still had Luke's number in my pocket even though I forgot I had it. I made my way to the door without being noticed. Once I was at the door I opened it and started to run to my house. And I had to run past the window where they were sitting. I got a glimpse of Luke and I saw that he noticed I was gone from under the table.
I ran home tears staring to fall down my face. Once I reached home I ran through the door ignoring my mom and running to my room and closing it behind me. I jumped on my bed and cried into my pillow. Then my mom walked in.
"Kara what happened?" She asked sitting on the edge of my bed.
"He lied to me." I sobbed.
"Who?" She asked.
"Luke. He's friends with Calum and Michael. We were talking and I told him about what happened between Michael, Calum and I at Starbucks and then when Michael, Calum and Ashton showed up I hid under the table and I found out that he was only talking to me to get information from me and then was going to tell everyone at school at the end of the week." I sobbed even harder now.
"Oh honey I'm sorry but maybe you should talk to him." My mom said.
"No I never want to talk to him or see him ever again." I sobbed into my pillow.
"Ok well if you don't feel like eating dinner you don't have to but I should tell you your dad comes home late tonight but you can see him tomorrow." She said getting off my bed and walking out my room closing the door behind her.
I turned over and to face the ceiling and I realized I had something in my pocket. I looked and saw it was the napkin that Luke wrote his number down on. I grabbed it and ripped it into pieces and then walked over to my garbage and threw it out. And since Luke was taking so long I had time to drop my stuff of at home. So to take my mind off of him I started to do math.
I sat there doing the math for four hours. I got it all so I started to make up my own questions. I was in the middle of writing a question and I just passed out right there. I guess all the events of today had finally caught up to me and it made me super tired.
