"Jone, it's almost been two years since we hadn't seen you! It's my wedding in a month and I need you to be here!" Kate screamed over the phone. She had been very upset when Jone told her that she wasn't sure to attend her wedding. "This is so unfair!"
Sighing she said, "Alright I will be there,"
"You should! You sound like you are forced to come home!" Kate was still upset. Who wouldn't be upset when your best friend is unsure to attend your wedding?
"Kate I'm really sorry okay?" Jone felt guilty. "I didn't want to complicate things and I was trying to avoid-"
"Mac," Kate finished. "Jone I told you that he likes you. He had been very worried and upset when you left that day. But if he is the reason why you aren't coming don't worry about that, Mac's got a girlfriend."
She was silent. She left Blue Seas because she didn't want to complicate things between her and Mac. She went back to Hawaii and ended things with Hadi then flew to Violetrock, a place in the pacific she had discovered in one of her vacation get away. Jone needs to clear her mind before being too assumptive that Mac was feeling something for her. She noticed the way he acted whenever they were together, the extra sweetness, the stare, the glances and he'd been dropping hints which she ignore because her old feelings for him had started to open up again and she didn't want Mac to be the rebound guy. And now he's got a girlfriend.
"Jone are you there?"
"Yeah," she answered. "When do you want me to come home?"
"As soon as possible of course!"
"Okay. I'll let you know when I'll be home."
"Thanks a lot Jone," Kate's voice was soft this time.
"No. Thank you Kate."
"For understanding everything that's been happening with me."
"We are best friends," Kate said with a smile that Jone could tell when they were talking over the phone. "I understand why you went away without letting us know where you are, but I was glad when you called me six months later, although that's impossibly a long time. I know you're scared about what's been happening to you and Mac, I see it myself, the way he treated you. The way he was sweet at you and always find time to be with you."
Jone smiled. It was nice to know that Kate had been observing Mac, it means he really did liked her. "But let's not worry about that anymore. I'm glad he's got a girlfriend now."
"It would be fun to have you as my cousin when you and Mac get married,"
"Seriously." Kate said.
"That will never happen Kate. Look I've got to go alright. I'm supposed to meet Henri for lunch five minutes ago."
"Who's Henri?" her friend was always interested with the guys in her life.
Jone explained that Henri Forbes, is a friend she met when she first came to Violetrock who lives next door to her and who works across from her building, as an Airline Operations Expert. There was nothing special going on between them, they kissed couple of times trying to figure if there was something between them but gladly found out that there wasn't that spark-of-more-than-a-friend-feelings so they remained close friends. And yes Henri is dating every woman he is interested.
"Why won't you take him with you when you come here?" Kate suggested.
"I'll try to ask him."
"Okay, I'll see you Jone. I really missed you!"
"I missed you too Kate."
When they both hanged up, Jone grabbed her wallet and called Henri on her way out of her office. She works as HR Director in an events company which hosts concerts all year round not only in Violetrock but all through out other countries. She got the job two month after she moved into the country.
"Where the hell are you Jone?" Henri asked. "I've been waiting here for ten minutes, you should have called in late."
She raised an eyebrow and checked her watch. "I'm still 8 minutes late Henri. What the hell's wrong with you anyway?"
"I'm so hungry and I can't get a table here. It's now filled with people." he complained.
"Why did you have to wait for me when you can take a table?" she asked as she took the stairs two at a time. Great Lime Events, the company where she works, owns the second floor of the building, so she always takes the stairs up and down everyday.
"It's full when I came here," Henri answered his was calmer this time. "You wanna have lunch somewhere else?"
Jone reached the lobby and hurriedly went out. She and Henri always ate lunch at this barbecue restaurant two buildings away from her office. "Where do you want to go?" she asked. She quickly saw Henri's golden blonde curly hair that was knotted at the back of his head. His back was facing her when she neared him.
"You wanna try that new pasta restaurant a few blocks from here?" he asked.
She quitely stepped on the brick stair that lead into the barbecue restaurant that was packed. She moved on the second step so she was as tall as Henri now then she placed an arm arond his neck. "Anywhere you like,"
Henri calmly turned his head towards her and sighed in relief. "God! The last time someone had placed an arm around me he needed my money! Don't do that again Jone. I left the guy with a broken nose, you don't want that to happen to you."
Jone pulled away from him and raised her hands. "I'm sorry. I don't know what's with you but you are just so touchy today." But she knows why, he was always irritated whenever he was hungry, you don't want to mess with the big guy.
"Let's take a cab, I'm really dying of hunger now," Henri went to hail a cab and opened the door for her when one came to a stop. Jone jumped in followed by Henri who just got a call from his colleague.
Henri, was definitely a handsome guy. He stood six feet two inches, very tall and very sexy with his surfer body and looks. He's got an ear pierced on the left with a silver stud, he's got ocean blue eyes, his left eyebrow got a scar which he earned years ago when he was still doing boxing for practice and mainly gambling. Just like Jone he's got half of his whole left body tattoed, which was always covered whenever he's on his corporate attire for working days. But when he's only on a shirt and a board shorts it makes him really badass. Too bad they both didn't have that special feelings towards each other. The people who knew them kept telling them that they'd be lucky together if they were a couple, but to the people who don't know them, would think that they are such a lovely couple.
"I'll deal with that when I get back from lunch okay?" he hanged up and glanced at her. "What are you staring at?"
"Do you know that you are so handsome?" she asked. She could tell him anything she wants without malice and so does Henri.
"Of course I know," he answered sarcastically. "Do you think those girls would stop and stare at me if I was hedious?"
Jone laughed. "Oh goodness! You really are hungry!"
Henri asked the driver to stop in front of WE LOVE PASTA and he paid the driver and they went inside. They sat on a table for two, further to the back windows so they could see the ocean view. Jone ordered a jumbo mixed seafood and chicken burito with a beer while Henri ordered a chicken and seafood platter, a small pot of bouillabaisse, a cup of rice and a beer. When they're food arrived they ate silently. Jone didn't realize how hungry she was till she had her first spoon. The burito was devine and the soup was fantastic. Done eating, they ordered a second round of beer and talked. It was friday and office's at Violetrock always close work at twelve noon so it was okay if they stayed longer.
"I'm going home next week," she began.
Henri, who knows her story raised an eyebrow at her. "Ready to face Mac?"
"I am not going to ask Mac to be my boyfriend as you have suggested so many times," she told him with raised eyebrows.
Henri grinned. "Now you're touchy."
"It's Kate's wedding in a month and she wants me to be there," she ignored him.
"So you were planning on not to attend the most special event your best friend's gonna have?" he asked incredulously.
"Yes," she answered.
"You really are nuts, do you know that?"
"Not until now, thanks." she sipped her beer and looked out the window. There were people enjoying the sun. Some were swimming other's playing frisbee.
"You're unbelievable. We've been friends for almost two years and I thought I know everything about you." Henri said shaking his head and took a sip of his beer. "If I was Kate, I would never have forced you to come to my wedding. You are such a brat."
Jone rolled her eyes. "Oh come on. I am not a brat and you know that. You know why I never wanted to go back home."
"Well I told you to tell Mac how you really feel, because as long as you won't tell him the truth you will never be at peace. And how long was it did you say that you liked him? Since you started high school?! And how old are you now? I hope you know that you're almost thirty years old."
"He's got a girlfriend."
Henri was silent. The two of them stared at each other.
"Do you wanna go to the bar right now? I'll cancel my meeting this afternoon." Henri said softly.
That's what she loved about Henri. He can be very hard on you to push you to get to your goal or what you want, but when you tell him that there was a catch or there was something that's keeping the situation from happening, he softens up and supports you anyway he can. And she finds it funny how he manages to shift from a scolding friend to a sweet and understanding one.
Jone laughed shaking her head. "You aren't serious right?"
"Yes I am," he answered. "Well except that I don't have to cancel my meeting, we'll go to the bars after my meeting if you want."
"It's no big deal Henri."
"But you liked him Jone. I bet you still do. You have all the rights to tell him and he has the right to know. It's not like you're going to die once you let that out. Are you going to wait till it was Mac's turn to get married?"
She was silent for a moment. "You know what, I think you should come with me to Blue Seas. We stay for a month, what do you say?"
"I thought you'd never ask," Henri smiled at her and they drank down their beer.
