Never getting tired of you

Nathan was a quiet lad with dark secrets. He never thought that anybody cared about him, he didn't have any friends until one day he met a girl who changed him and taught him how to love.

17. meeting Zoe's parents

Nathan's POV:

I was walking with Zoe who was balancing on a small wall next to me.

"So yeah, because of the whole 'parents being over protective' thing they kind of want to meet you before they approve of you?" She said, her voice wobbling as she was concentrating on not falling.

"Your parents want to meet me?" I asked to see if I understood correctly. She nodded. "To see whether or not they like me?" She nodded again. "Wow... What happens if I don't meet them?"

"I dunno," Zoe said, jumping off the wall and in front of me. "I guess they won't approve? Just don't think of it as a big deal,"

"But it is a big deal..."

"Yes but you can't think that! Just be you, okay? It's fine! I'm positive they're gonna like you!"

"Don't be so optimistic! What if they don't like me?" I panicked. "I mean I don't know what to say to them? I've never done this before-"

"I know! Nathan, I know you've never done this before! But you have to start at some point otherwise you'll never be able to do it! Look," Zoe said, holding both my hands making me feel uncomfortable again. "do it for me?" I couldn't say no now! She had me cornered. I hopelessly nodded as she hugged me tight.

"Thank you!" She screamed. I smiled, I felt proud. Meeting somebody's parents, wow I'm growing up!

Zoe's POV:

I was in my room. I could hear mum and dad mumbling stuff downstairs.

"I'm not sure about this! He might steal something," mum tried whispering. "He seems like that kind of person!"

"You don't even know the kid! How can you know that?" Dad laughed. I sighed. I just wished mum would accept him. Then I heard a knock on the door. My heart skipped a beat.

"I'll get it!" I yelled, running downstairs to answer the door. Nathan stood there, looking so different! He was smart!

"Wow," I breathed, looking Nathan up and down in his white shirt and black jeans and... Of course he kept the reeboks to spoil the smartness!

"What?" He nervously asked. Biting his lower lip.

"Nothing it's just... Wow! You look gorgeous," I was star strucked! Nathan smiled and ran his fingers through his scruffy hair. I heard footsteps behind me. Sure enough it was mum and dad.

"Aren't you going to introduce us then?" Dad nagged. I rolled my eyes.

"Mum, dad this is Nathan, and Nathan this is my mum and dad," I said. I waited a second for them to talk to each other.

"Nice to meet you," Nathan said quickly to both of them, shaking their hands. Mum stared at him strangely. Dad then closed the door behind Nathan as we walked into the lounge. Me and Nathan sat next to each other on the couch and mum and dad went to their usual armchairs.

"So then Nathan," dad commenced. "Tell us a bit about yourself."

"Ermm," Nathan stuttered. He was going red. I put my hand on his knee, he looked at me.

"It's okay," I mouthed. Nathan faked smiled and turned back to face my parents.

"I live down the road with my mum in the block of flats," Nathan rushed.

"Do you have any hobbies?" Dad continued asking.

"I like music, footballs okay, no good at it," Nathan said, looking down.

"Nathan has a huge vinyl collection!" I added but then Nathan looked at me sharply reminding me that they had broken. "I mean he used to, they broke the other day.."

"What a shame," dad sighed.

"Do you do drugs at all?" Mum said.

"Mum!" I shouted.

"What?" Mum answered.

"No miss, I do not," Nathan replied.

"Mum, you are not doing this! Nathan's a good lad! He has made so much effort for you guys tonight! Can't you just be normal for once! Please!" I begged. "I love him!" I bolted out, not realising what I just said. Nathan stared at me. I looked at him. I felt embarrassed.

"What do you know about love?" Mum scoffed. "You are 16 young lady!"

"I do like him though, an awful lot mum," I confessed. "And all I ask of you is to give him a chance?" Nathan looked disturbed. He smiled shakily at me and then at mum and dad.

"Pftt," mum breathed. Dad shook his head at mum and then eyed Nathan.

"Just take care of our daughter, don't let her down," he warned Nathan. "You seem like a good lad, so if me and my wife accept you then in return all I ask is for you to never disappoint our zo?"

"Of course!" Nathan immediately replied. Mum looked as though dad had let her down.

"I'm going to clean the kitchen, sweetheart will you give me a hand?" She hinted to dad, I knew though they weren't really going to clean but just gossip behind our backs.
