Zoe walked me back to my flat. She wasn't talking and she looked pretty ashamed.
"What's wrong?" I asked, feeling sorry for her.
"She's my best friend Nathan..." Zoe sighed. "I can't believe I did that to her... To be honest I didn't peg her as the kind of person who would do summit like that to someone like you..."
"She deserved what you gave her," I told Zoe. She smiled a little. "Thank you for sorting her out there, you really didn't have to do that I was doing well by myself,"
"Really?" She asked, looking up at me and raising an eye brow. "It's fine, don't worry about."
I didn't know what to say, I was never good with words. "You too?" I suggested.
"No," she cried. "Everything's gonna be huge tomorrow! She will gossip about what just happened and turn the story around to make us look like the bad guys! I know her Nathan..."
"Call me Nate," I told her. I started kicking a stone along side of me. "Just forget about her..." I started saying not knowing where I was going with this. "She's not worth it, you deserve a better friend, trust me. Don't make yourself feel bad about something she started." Zoe stared at me, making me feel nervous. I didn't want girls looking at me too much, I knew I wasn't good looking.
He was so cute. Why didn't I notice this before? I loved how we only just met (even though he's been in my class since the start of the year) and he was supporting me. His hair was perfection. Longish, brown and all messy, chunks of it falling in front of his ears. I smiled as a ray of sunlight shone down on the road, making his dark eyes glisten. He turned away and once again scruffed his hair with his fingers and looked down awkwardly.
"We're here," he said as we stood at the foot of the apartments. He smiled at me and I smiled back. "Thanks..." He quietly muttered. There was a long silence. We both just stood there not saying anything. He started kicking dirt with his shoes. "Do you want to come inside...?" He whispered so I could barely hear. He was such a quiet lad compared to some of he jerks in my school.
"Sure" I laughed.
