It was only early in the morning when Madeline heard the sound of glasses breaking. Without a moments thought, she scurried out of her bed while feeling the adrenaline loss control all over her. While trying to find the cause of the sound, her eyes were skipping out from being clear to blurry and then once again clear until finally when she entered the kitchen, everything was crystal clear.
There were broken shards of glass covering every portion of the kitchen and by the refrigerator laid her wrecked brother with his bloody hands shaking rapidly over his face. "What on earth are you doing!?" She screamed.
"What's going on?" Father ran from his bedroom with same reaction as me, but he only turned to anger, "Get out of my house now!"
"She's never coming back," He cried as his blood continued to drip over the tiled floors. It seemed that Madeline finally realized that her brother has a condition and that she was only making matters worse.
"Dad, I think he needs to see a doctor," She reached his shoulder and looked at the man she called brother, "I think his mental condition has worsened,"
"Mental condi--?" Her father paused and realized what she was saying and dropped to the ground while staring at his only son, "How come I never realized this sooner?"
"It's not your fault, I had forgotten all about it since he was young, and I thought that he had recovered from it, but now I see why he has come back," Madeline patted her fathers head and went in search for a broom.
The morning continued without a pace and the morning school hour was nearing. Brian fell asleep in fathers bedroom while they cleaned up the mess he made. Father had no choice but to call off work for two days so he could take care of Brian while Madeline was out in school.
"Don't worry about it, Madeline," Father pushed her to the front door, "I can handle it from here,"
"Alright, just make sure he doesn't disappear," Madeline tightened her fist as her father nodded with agreement, and then she finally left for school.
School was just the same routine, students were were in their classified groups with all one things in common. Their need to gossip about every little thing they could think of and the leader of this army would in all fact be Miss. Maggy. But all was to be ignored by Madeline and all was at peace in the way she thought.
"Madeline, please explain to me why you can't let someone so luxurious alone," Maggy stopped Madeline in the middle of the hallway with her usual pestering acts, but the urge to say something to her took over.
"I don't know Maggy, why can't I leave someone so luxurious alone? I don't know what goes through your tiny head so much as to think you can control or talk down on anyone, but I won't let you get the best of me. So consider this a war of declaration Miss. Tacky Maggy!" Madeline inhaled all her strength and pushed by Maggy to get to her next class. She could feel the aura of Maggy's anger course through her veins like an adrenaline power surge.
The rumor spread all over the school and it became the main topic of the week. People were beginning to see the change in Madeline like the speed of light. Her shocking act brought popularity to her name and without a seconds glance, Madeline was on top of Maggy, but Madeline neither cared or expressed it. She just knew that the energy she absorbed from Maggy's anger just made her stronger.
"Critical hit!" Jack dropped down from the school stairs when he saw Madeline quietly stepping down to her last class, "I heard that you stood up for yourself the other day, how was it? Did it feel good?"
"Yes, Jack," Madeline paused and really looked at him, it felt different, "It honestly did,"
Madeline dashed away from his eyes when she noticed that the feeling she had when she angered Maggy was not the feeling she was picking up now. Jack realized that his moments stare was different. Without thinking, his hand moved on its own grabbing her chin to look at him face-to-face. Her eyes were remarkably sparkling in the light.
Madeline broke away from his gesture and looked at him for herself. His eyes were staring right through her with passion. It was nothing she had ever felt before.
"Um," Madeline coughed to break the silence, "I need to go now,"
"No wait!" Madeline turned around quickly, but missed the step and was about to fall until Jack caught her, but by accident... their lips touched one another...
