"Maxine! Try again! And don't fall down this time!"
"Yes, Madame Kavi," Maxine Cooper replied, she picked herself off the floor, and stretched out her gloved hand, "Abhaine, go!"
A small creature, that resembled a blue bar, rose off the floor, hovering in mid-air.
"Doitean, go!" Her opponent called, as a lizard-like creature, appeared from their glove.
"Abhaine, aqua spray, now!"
"Doitean, counter with flame burst! Now!"
The two elements met in mid-air, colliding, and causing the trainers to fly backwards, landing on their backs.
"I think, both of you have had enough, for today," Madame Kavi said, "your creatures need a rest, and so do you."
"Yes, Madame Kavi," the two trainers replied, bowing.
"Good, see both of you at dinner." Madame Kavi said, walking out of the arena.
The trainers called their creatures back into the flat crystals that rested on their gloves, and walked back to their respective rooms.
Maxine closed the door to her bedroom, and examined her glove, something she did everyday for the past 19 years of her life.
So many things, that were just strange about it. For one, it was different from the other trainers, their gloves only had the one flat crystal, that rested on the top of the hand, whereas hers, had that, and three other crystals that rested between each knuckle.
And two, she was never allowed to remove it, ever, and she was never told why.
Maxine was a water-type trainer, meaning, she could only control creatures who's main element was water. There were the trainers that were two, three, and even all four types, but Maxine, she was only a lowly one-type trainer.
After several hours, the dinner bell rang, and the young trainers made their way to the dining hall.
Once Maxine had received her food, she sat at a take with other water-type trainers. That's how it went at the Academy, only those of the same type could sit together. which made it difficult for her, as her best friend, was a fire-type trainer.
And, as usual, nobody spoke to her, during meals, best friend was a different type, and the other water-types, were almost, complete snobs.
Dinner ended at around seven, and so, there was about three hours of free time, before lights out, which, either trainers went home for the night, or others, (like Maxine), retired to their rooms.
No one knew, why she stayed, other than Madame Kavi, and that was because, they might not understand.
Maxine's father, was the head of an evil organization, called The Nexus Society. Her mother didn't like it, so she took Maxine away when she was only a few months old.
Thing was, Maxine had a brother, named Maxwell, the only evidence, being a photograph, that Mrs. Cooper had given her daughter.
Maxwell had stayed with their father, and as far as Maxine knew, he was currently working for him, at least, that was the case, last she heard.
Maxwell, just like her, also had a glove, that he couldn't remove. The reason, unknown to him as well.
"Maxine, wait up!" Her friend called, running up to her. "where do you think you're going, without me?"
"The pool, Opal," she replied, "I know you dislike water..."
"More like, hate it with a bitter passion."
"So, as a fire-type, you hate water, but, you'll still hang out with me, even though I love it?"
"Why are you friends with me?" Maxine asked.
"Cuz, I can!"
Several hours later, Maxine, and Opal had retired to their rooms, and got ready for bed.
Settling in for the night, Maxine pulled the covers over her body, and fell asleep, dreading the next day's exercises.
