I sat in the emergency room trying to get it through my head that this is reality. That actually just happened. Autumn was willing to give up her life for me and all I've ever been was a complete ass to her. I sat up on the bed as the doctor came in, closing the curtain behind him.
"Hello Mr. Horan. I've just been informed of the situation that has happened. What seems to be in pain?" He asked while checking my eyes and ears.
"Nothing Doctor, I'm fine. Just some rope burns.." I replied looking at the redness around my hands and feet.
"From what I've heard you got a keeper of a girlfriend." He spoke softly patting me on the back.
"Yeah I really do.. Now if we're done I'm gonna go see her." I stood up and shook the doctors hand. He was a little shorter than me and maybe in his 50's.
I walked out and made my way to the connected hospital part of the huge building, where Autumn was. I can hear the fans yelling outside.. I think now that they see the real Autumn, not the one on gossip channels or magazine covers, the real Autumn that is selfless and was going to die for me, they'll respect her.
I sat in the waiting room, bored. I just wanna see Autumn.. Being here in this familiar room brings back such unwanted memories. Memories of sadness and tears, and not thinking I'd ever see her alive again. Me singing little things to her lifeless body and sliding the wedding ring on her finger.. I can't think about that stuff, my conscious reminded me as my eyes teared up.
"Hey honey?" An old red-headed nurse said peeking inside the empty waiting room with only me here.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Are you okay? You don't look too well." She moved so that she was fully in the doorway.
"I'm fine, thanks." I sighed ruffling my hair. I'm really not fine.
"Let me know if you need anything.. I'm Jane. She said pointing at her name tag and walking away. I only nodded. I need to talk to her.. Maybe if I sneak into her room.. No, I'm at a hospital. I need to be patient. My phone took me out of my deep conversation with myself. Of course it's John from management.
"Hello.." I groaned. - "Whatever.." - "Good, I don't want to anyway." - "No.." - "Yes.." - "Fine." - "Bye." I spat ending the phone call. Well that's a step into the right direction. They just released my contract.. I just got fired. Now I can focus on Autumn and settling down.
I looked around the room seeing a familiar painting on the wall. It was of a brown horse with a white diamond on its head. I'd always sit here and look at it, watching months fly by when Autumn was here.. Dying. I remember worrying that I wouldn't see her smile or face back to its original color, I wouldn't hear her voice or laugh, I wouldn't feel her touch or kiss. I prayed every night for a miracle. Stop thinking about this.. My conscious reminded me once again for the second time in the last 10 minutes. How can I not when it's filled with such horrible things?
I saw Jane walking by in the hall so I decided to yell to her and ask.
"Jane!" I yelled. She backed up and peeked her head in the door.
"Can I go see my girlfri- my friend now?" I asked catching myself.
"Visiting hours aren't for a half an hour.. But I guess so." She smiled before walking down the hall towards Autumn's room. I have a slight feeling that's where she's going. I followed her but kept my distance so it didn't look like I was a stalker or something. I waited a couple minutes after Jane went in.. Then I knocked on the door.
I woke up in a very uncomfortable bed in an all white room. I could hear the faint sound of people talking in the hallway and the beeping sounds of machines. I'm in a f**king hospital. I hate hospitals.. Ever since the coma I've been sick of them.
I don't remember what happened.. The last thing I remember is police showing up and Justin having a gun pointed at me. Did I.. Did I get shot? I looked down to make sure I wasn't missing any body parts and that there was no wrapping anywhere. Nope.. Where's Niall? Is he okay?
I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood up wobbling a little. I walked out into the hall. No sign of any friends or family. Are they here? Maybe they're in the waiting room..
"Hey, how ya feel Hun?" An older lady who had short red hair, wearing nurses scrubs asked me while guiding me back to the room I was just in.
"I'm fine.." I groaned.
"How many fingers am I holding up?" She asked putting her hand in front of me.
"Three.." I sighed. "Did I.. You know.. Get shot?" I asked the nurse nervously.
"Oh no, sweetheart! You almost did, but no. You're perfectly fine just some bruising on your tummy." She smiled at me. She's talking to me like I'm 5 years old.
"Did a Niall Horan get put in the hospital?" I asked her as she sat in a chair next to my bed so she could talk to me.
"Not that a know of. There's a cute little blonde boy in the waiting room though." She chuckled at me obviously not knowing our story or that we even knew each other. "Apparently someone famous is here.. There's a huge crowd of people outside yelling things and holding up signs." She said looking out the open window. Wow this lady is clueless..
I got up and walked to the window and peeked my head out. The fans went crazy. They were chanting things like "We love you, Autumn", "I hope you get better", or "Thank you." I couldn't help but smile widely. I waved and gave them a thumbs up to show I was okay.
"Your phone was ringing like crazy.. It was your mother calling. Do you want to call her back?" The nurse asked me while wrapping something around my arm to take my blood pressure.
"I probably should.." I chuckled grabbing my phone off of the table. I dialed her number and waited for her to pick up.
"Autumn! I've been worried sick! It's all over the news! I'm getting phone calls saying that you're dead! Do you know how terrible that is!? Are you okay?? Did you get hurt?? What's-"
"Mom! I'm fine." I yelled. "I'm in the hospital now.. Only a few bruises." I sighed.
"I don't like seeing you hurt." She cried. Hearing my mom cry is one of he worst things ever.
"I'm fine, mom. I'll come home and visit as soon as I can." I promised. I can see it now.. Laying on the beach getting a tan with the smell of sunscreen and funnel cakes. That's a million times better than being stuck in this damn hospital.
"Okay, I love you." She sniffled.
"I love you too." I hung up and sighed deciding on glancing through all my missed calls and texts from people I haven't talked to since high school.
I looked up to the door when I heard a soft knock. The nurse looked at me for permission before opening the door and watching a familiar blonde haired boy walk in with a bouquet of flowers. Niall.
