“All right, so where am I going?” Harry asks once we get into my car. Because I refuse get on that damn bike of his, and he claims he’s a better driver than me, he’s been driving my car when we go out.
“Brynn said he lives on Riverside. Do you know where that is?”
He laughs and starts driving. “Hell do I know where that is! What is he, a fucking billionaire?”
I shrug and a frown creeps on my face with the realization that I have no idea. Is it bad that we’re going to a party at a house of someone we don’t even know?
“We really don’t have to go… I mean, I don’t mind just going to Liam’s.” I offer.
“No way, now I gotta check this thing out.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, Chloe. It will be fun. Now shut up and pick a different song. This one is depressing as fuck.” I pout when he makes me change my favorite Lana Del Ray song.
When we pull up to the house, I realize what Harry was talking about. My father’s house is huge, but this house… it’s enormous. It looks more like a small hotel rather than a house, honestly.
“You ready to party, Chlo?” Harry opens my door for me and smiles an excited smirk.
“Definitely. I need a drink ASAP.” I admit. It’s definitely needed after this long day.
“Fucking same. Hey, I’ll call Louis later to pick us up so we don’t have to drive home. Let’s just have fun, yeah?”
“Sounds good.” I smile and follow him into the house.
The second we get inside, the loud music and the scent of alcohol invades my senses. I welcome the distraction, and I’m thankful that today has actually turned out to be pretty good.
“Holy shit, Chloe Hayes you look hot as hell!” I turn around to see a very drunk Brynn running, and stumbling, over to me. “I didn’t think you were coming, but I’m soooo glad you’re here!” She pulls me into a quick hug, but when she pulls back, she eyes me and then Harry. I know she’s probably wondering why he’s here and why he’s with me. I’ll have to fill her in later before she gets any ideas.
“Hey Brynn.” I laugh. Wow, I thought she was crazy while sober.
“Um, I’m gonna something to drink. What do you want, Chlo?” Harry cuts in.
“Oh, whatever you’re having. Thanks.” I smile and he nods.
“Booze is in the kitchen!” Brynn yells after him. He waves, and when he’s out of sight, she looks at me with wide, surprised eyes. “Chlo? He called you Chlo! What’s going on between you two?”
“Ugh, he’s like my brother! Stop looking at me like that!”
“Oh sure… Let me guess. You guys are just really good friends, you don’t like each other like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, BULLSHIT! Come on, Hayes. You two banging or not?” She slurs, and I can’t help but laugh.
“No, Brynn… Like he really is my brother. Well, my dad is marrying his mom. We live together for God’s sake!” I explain just before Harry returns, leaving Brynn with so many unasked questions churning in her hazed mind.
“Thanks.” I smile at Harry when he hands me a full plastic cup.
“Well in that case…” Brynn says quietly to me with a smirk before turning to Harry. “I never introduced myself. Silly me. I’m Brynn Hobart.” She smiles flirtatiously.
“Oh, Jason’s girlfriend?”
She looks at me like she was trying to keep that fact a secret, causing me to hold back a smile. She’s so wasted.
After they talk for a little, we chat with a few more of her friends and down a few more drinks, Brynn gets pulled away by Jason to go dance.
“I just want to go say hi to Hayden, I’ll be right back!” I yell to Harry over the loud music.
“I think I’m gonna head out.” He points his thumb over his shoulder.
“What! No way! Don’t leave me here aloneeee!” I pout. Shit, I’m already drunk. There’s no way I’d beg him to stay if I wasn’t this damn intoxicated.
“You’re shitting me right? People haven’t stopped coming up to talk to you since we got here! You are not fucking alone.” He laughs at my inability to make sense.
“Ugh, I don’t get it either! I just want to party!”
“Well go find Brynn. She looks like fun.” He grins and I can see he’s a little drunk himself.
I know what that grin is insinuating. I smack his broad chest. “Don’t you dare, Styles. She has a boyfriend!”
“I won’t.” He throws his hands up in surrender. “But I should go before I get too tempted.” He winks.
“No, you are staying Styles,” Chloe grinned a drunken smile. If that smile couldn’t convince me to stay, I don’t know what could.
I groan, trying to make it look like I’m conflicted. But really, I’m more than happy to stay if she wants me to. I’ve followed her around all night, but I’d take this over nothing. And that Hayden guy looks like a tool, so I’ll have to make sure he doesn’t take advantage of her while she’s drunk. Just being a good brother… “Fine.”
“Yay!” She claps her hands together, spills a little from her cup, then pulls me into a hug.
Once she pulled away I grabbed her free hand. “Come on, crazy.” I pull her towards the massive crowd of drunk, sweaty teenagers dancing in the living room to the loud music, and she followed behind me.
“I’ve had a lot to drink! I’m going to fall!” She giggles. Damn right she has. I haven’t seen her like this since the night we were forced to bond. Good times.
When we got in the middle of the crowd, I grabbed her hips and pulled her body tight against mine. “Shut up and dance.” I said in her ear, watching the goosebumps raise on her soft, tanned skin. I don’t know what got into me, probably the booze, but mostly just her. Fuck. I’m in deep.
Her small body instantly moves against mine to the blaring music, and I can’t keep my hands off her. Her long, wavy hair is in my face, and even though I'm on the border of being wasted, I can feel every movement her ass is making against me… and it feels fucking amazing. The way her hips moved in every direction are making my dick twitch, but I'm about to pull her into a room and fuck her… Dammit, we shouldn’t even being doing this, but it’s like I can’t get enough of her. I know I was probably taking advantage of her drunken state, but we’re not officially step-siblings yet… so this is okay, right?
Shit. Damn. Fuck. Here I was saying I’ll stay to fight off all the assholes who would try to take advantage of her and be a good brother, but here I am being a hypocritical prick. It just feels so right.
Chloe turned to face me with a mischievous smile. Her hands began at my shoulders, and then she let her fingers run down my chest and stomach. I nearly went insane, wanting her right then and there. She turned her back to me again, and my heart beat even faster against my chest. It was almost painful. I gripped her hips and pulled her tighter into me so I could feel her ass against me. God dammit.
I wrapped my arms around her waist and buried my face in her hair. It was saturated with sweat, and combined with her perfume. All of my rational thoughts evaporated.
Chloe leaned back, her head against my shoulder. Some of her hair fell away, exposing the sparkling, sweaty skin of her neck. All willpower vanished. I touched my lips to the spot just behind her ear. Her body tensed, and she pulled away.
Instead of pushing me away like I had expected her to do, she turned back around to look at me, wrapped her arms around my neck and leaned in to close the gap between us.
My hand immediately went to her hips and pulled her to me as her lips found mine. I tried to control myself, but the second her tongue slipped into my mouth, I thought this time I really was going to go insane. Fuck, she’s hot.
Just as my hands made their way to her face, she pulled away out of breath. I took a replenishing breath myself, and waited for her to say something because I couldn’t read her face. Did she regret that? Because I sure as hell didn’t.
She finally looked up at me, almost scared, before removing her arms from around my neck and backing away. She pushed through the crowd, retreating back to the kitchen. I followed, knowing I needed to fix whatever just happened.
“I just need to use the bathroom, Harry. I’ll be right back.” She said without looking at me when I found her breathing heavily.
I sighed knowing I’d just fucked up, but nodded and cursed under my breath as she walked away.
The second she was out of my vision, I pulled out my phone and called Louis. He could get me out of here before I fuck this up more than I already have.
“What’s up, bro?” He answered on the second ring.
I sighed in relief and put my palm over my other ear so I could actually hear him over the noise. “Can you come pick me up? I’m at some house on Riverside.”
“What the hell are you doing there?”
“It doesn’t fucking matter, can you come get me or not?”
“Yeah man, chill out. I’ll be there in five.”
“Thanks.” I said before hanging up. Fuck, I need to get out of here, but now Chloe's walking back looking amazing… Dammit! I need to get her out of my fucking head! She obviously does not return the feelings.
“Hey…” She finally looks at me and twirls a piece of her hair with her finger.
“Hey…” I nod and shove my hands in my pockets. “I think I’m gonna get out of here… Louis’ coming to pick me up.”
“Oh…” Chloe looks away from me looking almost disappointed. Dammit, she’s exhausting. Does she want me or not? “That’s cool, I’ll just catch a ride home with Brynn.”
“Yeah, good, okay... Um I’m gonna head out.” I point my thumb over my shoulder and she nods. “See you tomorrow.”
Fuck this is awkward. And yet again, I’m blaming myself. What’s new? I fucked something good up. Typical.
The next morning I wake up with a terrible headache, but I couldn’t tell you whether it was from the alcohol I drank last night, or the endless string of worries, confusion and nervousness running through my mind.
I want so badly to blame what happened between Harry and I on the alcohol, but I’d be lying to myself. I had to have known that there was at least a little something between us, it was just due to circumstances that I didn’t want to admit it. He’s practically my brother, and that’s the only argument I have. This is insanely wrong though, solely for that reason.
Fuck. This is just a mess. I don’t know how Harry’s going to respond to all of this, and I’m honestly nervous to leave my room and face his reaction. I need some advice, and I know the only person who will tell me the truth will be Cassidy. Well, Brynn would give me some good input, but I’m sure she has a much worse hangover than I do, and she would not appreciate being woken up.
“Chloe! What’s up chica?” She answers cheerfully after the first ring.
I reply with a groan, wishing I didn’t feel exactly opposite of how she sounds. “What’s up? Vent.”
She knows me all too well. “Just listen before you say anything, okay?”
“Me and Harry hooked up… well we just kissed, you can’t really call it a hoop up, but I’m freaking out. I was really drunk and I think he was too. I don’t know what to do because he is practically my brother. Shit, Cass! What do I do!”
I hear her take a deep breath over the phone, and I know this is just as much of a mess as I thought. I ruined everything… We had such a good thing going.
“Well what did he say when you talked to him this morning?”
“I haven’t talked to him…” I admit.
“Well then what the hell are you stressing about, Chloe?”
“I just… Is that wrong? The fact that he literally lives across the hall from me?”
“I mean it’s a little weird…” She admits and I feel myself getting more and more worried. “Okay, answer honestly. Did you like it?”
“Yes.” No doubt.
“Do you like Harry? I mean, could you see it happening again? Pretend he’s just a guy you met at school, not your stepbrother.”
“Yes.” But it can’t. He is my stepbrother. Well he will be soon enough, anyway.
“I think you just need to talk to him and see what he thinks about it. Either tell him it can’t happen again or figure out what the hell is going on between you two.”
“Dammit, Cassidy. Why does this have to be so complicated! Like of all the people in San Diego, I choose the son of the woman my father is dating.”
“It’ll be fine. Just talk to him, and go from there.”
“I’m a little nervous honestly. I know he’s going to either regret it or treat it like one of his hookups. I just don’t want it to affect our friendship. We had a good thing going, and it’ll crush me if we can’t stay friends.”
“You’ll figure it out.” She reassures me, and even though she doesn’t know enough of the story to make that decision, it does make me feel a little better. “But tell me how the new school is. Making any friends?” She effectively distracts me from my real problems.
Just when I begin to answer, someone knocks at my door. “Hold on, Cass, I think my dad wants me.”
I stand up and drop my phone on my bed to answer the door. I don’t bother to put on any clothes over my pajamas or fix my hair and makeup seeing as it probably is my father.
“Harry.” I say with wide eyes when I answer the door and see him standing there. Definitely regret not worrying about my appearance.
“One second...” I hold up my finger and walk over to my bed to grab my phone. “Hey Cass, I gotta go. I’ll call you later.”
“Is that Harry? Chloe, don’t chicken out! Talk to him, tell him your true feelings!”
“Okay, I’ll call you later.” I rush out and hang up. Ugh, this is going to be a disaster. Another disaster, anyway.
