I woke up to my alarm screeching in my ears. Oh joy, I love getting up at 6:30 in the morning, not the sarcasm. I rolled out of bed and stumbled into the bathroom. I splashed cold water on my face to wake me up a little more.
After I was done with everything in the bathroom, I made my way back into my room. I pulled out my clothes for the day. I picked out a black Nirvana shirt, black skinny jeans, and boots. I made my way downstairs into the kitchen.
My mum was still asleep, so I made myself breakfast. After eating I watched TV until 7:15. I made my way to the car and drove to school. I sat in my car for 5 minutes in the parking lot, just trying to calm myself down. I took out my schedule to see what my first hour class was.
I got out of my car and made my way into the building. Luckily nobody really paid attention to anyone else than their friends. Friends, something I’ll probably never have here. I made my way to my first hour class.
Luckily the bell hadn’t rang, and there was only a few people in there talking to their friends. I walked over to the teacher and explained that I was a new student. He gave me and seat and I sat down.
The bell rang and I watched as people stumbled into the classroom. My breath caught in my throat as he walked in. I watched as he unfortunately made his way to the seat in front of me. Memories of all the things he’s ever called me came rushing back. I held my composer as the teacher started class.
Halfway through the class he turned around.
“Hey beautiful,” he said in a horrible attempt to flirt.
He obviously didn’t recognize me. I almost laughed at the irony of the situation.
“Um, can you turn around, your ego is blocking my few,” I said with a sudden boost of confidence.
He smiled dropped and turned around.
After the class ended I made my way to the next class. As I was walking someone grabbed my wrist and spun me around. I was greeted by the same face.
“What the hell is your problem,” he asked angrily.
“Wow, you think a guy would remember the girl he used to bully at fourteen,”
“Wha-,” the realization spread across his face.
He let go of my wrist and quickly walked past me. I stood there confused for a second, but continued to my next class. The day pretty much went on uneventful until lunch.
I was sitting at a table alone eating, when three of four of my past bullies sat down around the table. I got a little nervous being surrounded by three of them. I didn’t look up from my food as they stared at me.
“Wow,” I heard the unmistakable voice of Ashton whisper.
“What do you guys want?” I asked with a weak voice.
“Listen, Calum told us you were back. And we’re heart to apologize for everything we did to you before you moved. Calum on the other hand refuses to apologize for anything,”
I scoffed, “Yeah, I figured he wouldn’t,”
“We were kind of hoping that we could be friends,”
My heart jumped at the word friends. I gave them a slight smile and nodded. They smiled back. I had doubts about it though. Like what if this is just some trick to ruin my life? The bell rang and I got up. I was followed by the three.
“So, Luke, you’ve gotten really tall,” I tried making conversation, but he just nodded.
We awkwardly continued walking to our next classes. We all had the same class, unfortunately that included Calum. The three all sat by me, Luke on one side, Michael on the other Ashton next to him. Calum rolled his eyes and sat on the other side of Ashton.
I felt extremely awkward sitting next to all of these guys.
Michael leaned over towards me, “hey you should come to our band practice after school today.
I heard Calum groan, “I don’t know, I don’t want to intrude,”
“You wouldn’t be intruding, we need someone else’s opinion besides Luke’s mom,” I laughed quietly.
“Ok, I guess I can,” He smiled and turned back to the front.
None of us were paying attention to what the teacher was saying. The majority of us were drawing random stuff in our notebooks.
Finally the last bell rang and we practically ran out of the school.
“So, do you want to just ride with us? Ashton can bring you back here to get your car after practice.” Michael said.
“Yeah that sounds good.”
No, that doesn’t sound good; that means I’m going to have to be alone with one of them later. We walked over to Ashton’s car. Thankfully they made me sit in the front so I was stuck between two of them.
We arrived in front of one of their houses. I got out and followed them inside, and down to the basement. If it weren’t for the instruments they started picking up, I would think they were going to murder me.
I watched as they tuned there instruments. Then they started playing, and I swear my mouth almost fell open. They were way batter than I expected. I always used to hear them talking about starting a band, I never thought they would.
I clapped when they were finished. Calum rolled his eyes yet again.
“That was amazing,” I said truthfully.
“You really think so?” Luke asked.
“Yes, it was awesome,” I smiled at him.
“Do you guys want anything to eat?” Luke asked all of us.
Everyone nodded and he went upstairs. I awkwardly stared at the three left standing in front of me. After a few seconds Calum ran upstairs too. Now it was just me, Ashton, and Michael.
“We’re sorry about Calum; we don’t what’s gotten into him lately,”
“He just hates me, he always has,” I said sighing.
“I’m sure he doesn’t hate you, he just doesn’t know the real you,” Michael said trying to make me feel better.
“Well, neither do you, but you don’t hate me. Well I least I think you don’t,”
“No, none of us hate you,”
“Speak for yourself,” Calum said walking back into the room.
I rolled my eyes this time. I sat back down on the couch and waited for Luke to come back with food. Luke soon came back with a bunch of food. I smiled and grabbed a thing of cookies. I sat on a couch farthest away from Calum.
“How can you guys stand her?” I heard Calum ask Luke.
I rolled my eyes.
“Because we’re not dickheads like you,” He said back, almost in a joking tone.
I just ignored them while enjoying my chocolate chip cookie. I almost jumped out of my seat when I saw a dog walk in. I love dogs so much. It wagged it’s tail and walked over to me. I laughed as it licked my face.
“It looks like she likes you,” Luke said laughing.
I saw Calum staring at me with an annoyed face. I honestly have no idea what his problem is. The dog walked over to Ashton and laid down on his lap. I laughed because the dog was almost as big as him.
We continued to talk for an hour, well except Calum, he just kind of sat there on his phone. I eventually had to go home. Ashton had to drive me back to my car which was still parked in the school parking lot.
The car ride there was pretty awkward, “You know Calum felt horrible for weeks after he hit you,”
I tensed up a bit, I hated remembering that day, “Can we not talk about it,”
“I’m sorry; I just thought you should know he doesn’t really hate you,”
“Yeah right, he hates my guts,”
Ashton frowned knowing that there was no argument, Calum hates me and that’s all there is to it. I got out of his car when we arrived at the school. I quickly made my way over to my car and got in. I saw Ashton drive away, as I started my car.
I soon arrived at my house. The lights were off, seeing as my mum was still at work. I sighed and opened my door, throwing my bag over my shoulder. I flicked on the lights as I walked through the front door. The house was still and silent. I made my way to the kitchen and grabbed a water bottle. Then walked up to my room.
I pulled out the unfortunate amount of homework I got on the first day. Luckily we had learned this stuff at my old school right before I moved back. Around ten o’clock my eyelids started to feel heavy.
I put all my finished homework back into my bag and walked into the bathroom. I pulled my hair into a ponytail and wiped all my makeup off. I changed into my pajamas and slipped into bed. It didn’t take long for me to fall asleep.
I woke up at the same time as before and stumbled into the bathroom. I splashed cold water to wake myself up again. I stood there for a minute trying to figure was to do with my hair. I just ended up redoing my ponytail.
I put on a little makeup before slipping on my outfit, some random band t, skinny jeans, and Vans. I grabbed my bag and headed downstairs. My mum was still in bed, I haven’t actually seen her since Sunday, it sucks actually.
I only will ever get to see her on the weekends. I might as well go back home, but I’ve already enrolled in school. Plus I potentially have three new friends. But they could just be my friends as a joke.
I grabbed a cinnamon rolled and headed towards my car. I finished my cinnamon roll as I pulled up in the parking lot. I smiled when I saw Ashton, Luke, and Michael, but my smiled faded as Calum joined them.
I got out of my car, and tried avoiding being seen by them. I don’t really feel like dealing with Calum today. I mentally groaned as Michael called out my name.
“Why does she have to hang out with us?” Calum whined like a child.
“Why do you have to be so immature?” I shot back.
“Why do you have to be such a bitch?” He fired stepping closer.
“Why do you have to be such a dick?” I said stepping closer as well.
“Ok will you guys stop before you end up killing each other,” Michael stepped between us.
“Well if he would stop being such a child we wouldn’t have this problem,”
“If she would stop being so goddamn annoying,” He grumbled.
“Enough!” Michael shouted, making me snapped my glare away from Calum.
“Whatever, can we just get to class before we’re late,”
I pushed past both Michael and Calum and stormed towards my locker. I don’t want to really be around anyone today. Pretty much anything anyone does pissing me the fuck off. It’s probably just hormones.
I huffed as I took my seat in first hour. The guys made their way through the door, Luke and Ashton taking a seat next to me. I really hope they don’t try to talk to me, even though I don’t hate them like Calum, I might snap at them, and I don’t want them to be angry at me.
“Are you okay today, Ella?” Ashton whispered to me.
I just nodded, not wanting to say anything.
“I get that you’re mad at Calum but will you please at least talk to me,”
“I just don’t feel like talking right now,” I snapped, this is exactly why I didn’t want to talk to anyone.
“Whatever,” He whispered turning towards the front of the classroom.
Great, now another person is mad at me. I felt a lump in my throat, I hate when people I actually like are mad at me. I choked down the lump, because I’m sure as hell not about to start crying in the middle of class.
“Hey, I’m sorry,” Ashton said wrapping his arm around me.
“No, I’m sorry, I’m just really emotional today,”
“Oh…Is it the time of month,” He asked blushing.
I laughed at his awkwardness and nodded, unfortunately it was true.
“You know if I wasn’t I would’ve murdered you,”
He smiled, “How about me and the guys come over and we eat junk food and watch movies,”
“Yeah, that would be nice,” I smiled back at him.
The day went on as usual. Calum and I bickering every five minutes. I don’t know what his problem is but he needs to sort it out. I just dealt with it because I had hanging out with the guys to look forward to.
I pulled up to my house and ran inside. As soon as I sat down I got a text.
From: Ashton: Hey me and the guys will be over in about an hour, we’re going to go to the store and buy a lot of food.
To: Ashton: Food! You are literally the bestest friend ever!!!
From: Ashton: LOL I’ll be you soon byeeee
To: Ashton: Byeee loser.
I smiled as I placed my phone on the counter. I hope to god that they are bringing chocolate and lots of it.
After waiting and waited, they finally showed up with the food.
“I’m sorry, but me we had to bring Calum,” Michael said.
“Why the hell did you bring him?!” I shouted.
“He wouldn’t stop bugging us to hang out,”
“So you couldn’t have just ditched him,”
“Well I can’t just ditch my best friend,”
I groaned and walked out to the living room, where everyone was sitting.
“Now I have to burn the chair,” I said, referring to the one Calum was sitting.
“You’re so funny I forgot to laugh,”
I rolled my eyes and sat next to Michael. I’m not going to let Calum come in the way of my new abundance of food. Luckily for me, I can literally eat everything and not gain a pound. I never used to be that way, I was quite overweight before I moved to America, that’s part of the reason I used to get teased.
Remembering everything that these four boys used to say to me, I placed the bag of crisps back down on the table, earning a strange look from Ashton.
“I thought you wanted food,” He said quizzically.
“Yeah, I guess I’m not as hungry as I thought,”
He shrugged it off and I tried to pay attention to what was on the screen, only to find myself drifting off to sleep.
His cold, dark, brown eyes glared at me. An evil smirk tugged at his lips. His height towered over me as I cowered closer to the wall. I wanted to move away further, but the wall stopped my actions.
“There’s no escaping now, Louella,” His disgustingly dark, deep voice taunted me.
He raised back his large hand and brought it across my face with great force.
“No!” I yelled jumping awake.
My sudden outburst caused everyone to look at me. I felt the tears well up in my eyes, both from the nightmare and embarrassment.
“Are you okay Louella?” Michael said rubbing my back.
“I j-just had a nightmare,” I said, trying to drop the subject.
“Nothing, can we not talk about it,”
Even though I was sort of scared of Calum, I wasn’t going to let him know that. I looked over to where he was sitting. For a second he almost looked concerned, but that was soon covered by the same cold glare.
I got up off the couch and made my way to the kitchen. I searched for a bottle of water. Finding one in the back of the fridge, I chugged almost half of it in less that a minute.
“El, please tell me what your dream was about,” I heard Michael voice say from behind me.
I sighed, “You promise not to tell the others?”
“It was about Calum, on the last day that I was at school, he hit me. I don’t know if you remember that, but I sure as hell do. Ever since then I’ve had nightmares every night, each one worse than the last,”
“I remember,” He whisper, “I defiantly remember, I hated myself for even being a part of all that shit for a long time after you left. We all thought you left because of that.”
“I left because my parents spilt up and I was forced to move with my father to America,”
“My god that must have been a horrible day for you,”
“To this day it’s been the worst day of my life. I’m pretty sure I cried for twenty-four hours straight,” Before I could say anything else, I was pulled into a bone crushing hug.
“Uh, Michael, I kind of need to breath,”
He chuckled and let go, “I thought you might have needed that,”
“I defiantly did, thank you,” I smiled. I am most defiantly the closest with Michael.
We walked back out to where the guys were and continued to watch the movie. Even though his hug helped a lot, the vision of him hitting me kept playing over and over in my mind. I found myself staring at Calum. How could someone stoop so low as to hitting someone because they didn’t get their way or they were angry. There’s no reason to ever hurt someone.
“Why don’t you take a picture it’ll last longer,” His voice snapped me out of my thought.
“I don’t need a picture, I’m just wondering how someone could be such a dick,” which was technically the truth.
He rolled his eyes, “Bitch,” he mumbled.
