Equal Ice

I’m a performer, but I don’t act on a regular stage.
I dress up in costumes, but I don’t play a character.
My stage isn’t one in a theater; it’s clean slick ice at a rink.
I don’t play a character, I’m just myself.
Sometimes on the ice though, I feel like I’m someone else. Someone who is graceful and beautiful, it’s still me though, just a different side of me. A side that I like much more than my everyday self.
Ice skating is much more work than people may think though, and some people don’t consider it a sport. It’s not as extreme as hockey for example.
I may not look very tough, but I can accelerate faster than the guys on the racetrack.
I take harder impacts than a rider being thrown from a bull.
And I handle more G-Force than a fighter pilot.
So why just be extreme, when you can be extremely graceful.

Chapter 70

Gabrielle’s POV

I woke up the next morning to the sound of my phone ringing on my bedside table. This may sound weird, but it felt so good to hear the sound of my phone waking me up after going so long without it. I grabbed my phone off of the bedside table and expected the screen to show me my alarm going off, but instead I saw it was a phone call with Bella’s name written across the screen.

I was obviously a bit surprised yet happy that she was calling me. We may get in our fights, but I hate going a long time without talking to her. I knew she was bound to call at some point though, she waited longer than I thought, but I knew she couldn’t go without gloating to me that she had a date with Harry tonight.

“Hello?” I said into the phone once I pressed the answer button and brought the phone up to my ear.

“Can we just stop being in a fight? Because I hate it and I have something I really want to tell you,” Bella instantly said.

“What do you want to tell me?” I asked with a smile, knowing what she was about to tell me.

“Well it kind of has to do with what we were fighting about, but if you can just for five minutes be a little teenage girl and be excited with me, I’d really appreciate it,” she said.

“Would you just tell me already?” I joked, and she laughed before speaking again.

“I have a date with Harry tonight,” she squealed.

“Really?” I said, trying my best to sound surprised and excited.

“Yeah, I asked him and he didn’t even have to think about it, he just said yes,” I wanted to tell her it’s because he already knew, but it would cause all kinds of problems if I did.

For a little over an hour, I stayed on the phone with Bella while she talked about what she expected for tonight, and what she was thinking about wearing. I honestly for once didn’t mind her nonstop talking. Mostly because I knew what all was going to happen tonight, and I knew that those perfect scenarios she was picturing weren’t going to happen.

I will admit that I did feel a bit bad, she is so excited and thinking everything is going to go perfect, when in reality I know that she’s most likely going to hate tonight. On the other hand, I just think about her reaction when someone told her that they saw me out with Harry, and then she just goes and asks him out, and I feel better.

“Gabi?” I heard Bella say and I snapped back into reality and out of my thoughts.

“I asked you if you could get your dad to drive you over to my house since he’s not working and have you help me decide on what to wear for tonight,” she said.

“Yeah, let me just get ready and go ask him,” I told her.

“Okay, call me when you’re on your way,” she said, and then we both said bye and hung up the phone.

I pulled the covers off my body and got myself out of bed. I got myself ready as quick as I could while still looking presentable, and then headed downstairs.

“Hey dad,” I said as I walked into the living room and sat down next to my dad on the couch as he enjoyed his day off.

“Hey Gabi,” he said, eyes still glued to the TV in front of him.

“I was wondering if you could drop me off at Bella’s?” I asked him.

“Yeah, just let me finished up this show,” he told me.

“Okay,” I said and got up from the couch to go to the kitchen and get myself something to eat since I hadn’t eaten anything yet today because I had only woken up merely an hour ago.

I got myself some cereal, a cup of yogurt, and a glass of juice before sitting down at the counter to eat as I waited for my dad to finish up whatever stupid show that he was watching.

Once I was finished eating, I sat in the living room for a few more minutes until my dad was finally ready to take me to Bella’s.

“Ready?” my dad asked once he turned off the TV.

“Yep,” I said and we both got off the couch and headed outside to the driveway where his car was parked.

“So what are you girls up to today?” my dad asked me as he began to drive over to Bella’s house, which was on the other side of the neighborhood.

“Bella has a date tonight so she’s having me help her decide what to wear,” I told him.

“Ah, got it. Who is she going out with?”

“Oh I don’t know, she just told me she got a date today. I’ve lost track of the names of the guys she’s gone out with,” I said, a bit caught of guard when he asked the name of the guy, but I still got out a believable answer.

“That girl and her dating,” my dad said.

“Tell be about it,”

“So what about you, what’s going on in Gabi’s dating life?” he asked me, and I knew where he was going with this.

Every now and then he was still trying to get me to tell him more about Harry, but I wasn’t telling him anything. Luckily he’s been starting to give up on it and doesn’t ask me questions as much.

“Nothing really,” I told him.

“Oh I don’t believe th-”

“Look we’re here,” I quickly interrupted once I saw Bella’s house just a few houses away from us now.

My dad went ahead a gave up on trying to go back to our conversation as he pulled up in front of Bella’s house and let me out.

“Call me when you need me to pick you up,” he told me as I got out of the car.

“Okay,” I said back, and then waved bye to him as he drove off and then headed up to Bella’s front door.

Once I was on Bella’s porch, I knocked on the door and waited a few moments before Bella came and opened the door.

“Thank goodness you’re here,” Bella said just as she saw me.

I just laughed and followed her inside her house and up to her room.

“I really need your help,” Bella said as we walked into her room.

As I stepped into her room, there were so many different items of clothing scattered all over her bed, the floor, her dresser, basically everywhere.

“I can tell,” I said as I continued to look at all the clothes thrown across her room.

“It looks like your closet exploded,” I told her.

“I can’t find anything to wear,” she complained as she flopped down on her bed, on top of some of her clothes.

“You have tons of clothes, I’m sure you have something,” I said.

“Yeah but I don’t know how casual or dressy to be, he still hasn’t told me where he’s taking me,” she told me.

“Aren’t you the one who asked him? Why do you think he is going to plan everything?” I asked her, repeating what Harry had told me he was thinking, but trying not to be rude about it to her.

“Yeah but he’s the guy, he is expected to plan the date, it’s just common knowledge,” she said casually.

I decided just to keep my mouth shut right now because I really didn’t want to get in an argument with her after I just got out of one that was about the same person.

“If I were you I’d just wear like a casual dress or something,” I suggested.

“Yeah, I guess that would be best, but I don’t know which dress to wear,” she continued to complain as she threw her hands over her face.

Bella and I went through the clothes she had left in her closet, and then went through a few of the items she had thrown all over her room.

“How about this?”  I asked as I lifted up a black a white polka dotted dress.

“I think that will work,” she said.

Not exactly the response I was expecting when she decided on something to wear, but I guess I should just be happy she finally settled on something. We set the dress aside, and I convinced her to clean up her room before we decided what else to put with the dress. The two of us were just grabbing any hangers that we could and sliding pieces of clothes on and hanging them up, or sloppily folding clothes and putting them back in her dresser drawers.

Once we finished that, Bella laid the dress out on her bed, and then I silently groaned as I say her now taking all her shoes out of her closet and having me help her pick a pair.

After that it will probably be accessories and jackets. And knowing Bella we’re probably going to have thirty-minute conversation on whether or no she should straighten or curl her hair, and I knew this was going to be a long afternoon.
