Equal Ice

I’m a performer, but I don’t act on a regular stage. I dress up in costumes, but I don’t play a character. My stage isn’t one in a theater; it’s clean slick ice at a rink. I don’t play a character, I’m just myself. Sometimes on the ice though, I feel like I’m someone else. Someone who is graceful and beautiful, it’s still me though, just a different side of me. A side that I like much more than my everyday self. Ice skating is much more work than people may think though, and some people don’t consider it a sport. It’s not as extreme as hockey for example. I may not look very tough, but I can accelerate faster than the guys on the racetrack. I take harder impacts than a rider being thrown from a bull. And I handle more G-Force than a fighter pilot. So why just be extreme, when you can be extremely graceful.

Chapter 69

Harry’s POV

“I have an idea,” I told Gabrielle as I sat up on my bed.

“What is it?” she asked me, her interest piqued as she sat up a bit more in the chair that she was sitting in.

“Okay this may not be the best thing to do and I’m not really sure if I could do it, but I was thinking, what if I just acted like a complete jerk to her on the date and then she wouldn’t be interested in me anymore,” I suggested.

“That actually could work, but it depends on how you play it up. You might be hesitant to do it like you said, so I feel like you’d only half do it and then she’d think you’re a bad boy or something and could possibly become more attracted to you,” Gabrielle explained.

“But you’re saying that if I was rude to her the entire night she’d probably lose interest in me?” I asked her.

“Yeah, but it’d probably mean that she is going to hate you again,” she said.

“Well that’s fine with me then if it means I’ll get away from the current situation,” I told her.

“Okay good, and remember do not back out of it just because you get scared of hurting her feelings, because trust me she’ll get over it,” Gabrielle told me.

“Good to know then,” I said back.

The two of us began just to talk about the course of tomorrow night just to get a general idea of what I was going to do.

After awhile though we got bored, and we decided to head out to the living room and joined my aunt and Ben on the couch and watched a movie with them. They were already halfway through the movie though so some parts didn’t make sense, but judging from the parts that I saw, it seemed like a pretty decent movie.

Once the movie was over, my aunt made a quick dinner for Ben, Gabrielle, and I to eat before I needed to take Gabrielle back home. I have to say; now I was pretty happy that I had told my aunt about Gabrielle. Everyday everything got better, but everyday I still felt worse and worse for not telling my aunt about Gabrielle sooner.

The four of us ate at the kitchen counter, and we were all laughing and just getting along real well, making good conversation. When asked about if Gabrielle was going to be coming over again tomorrow, we obviously had to say no. I had been lying to my aunt a lot, and I just recently got out of all of it, so I did feel a bit bad for lying about my plans for tomorrow night, but on the other hand it really wasn’t something that she needed to worry about or something that would affect her in any way.

Once we had finished the small meal that my aunt had made for us, Gabrielle said bye to both my aunt and Ben, and then the two of us left the house and got in my car so I could take her back home.

On the dive back to Gabrielle’s house, the two of us talk a bit about tomorrow night, but after awhile I could tell she was tired of thinking about it all. I knew the idea of me going out with Bella was bothering her, but we had a good plan to get Bella to stop liking me, and now that’s the only reason that I’m willing to hang out with Bella again by choice. For the rest of the drive, the only sound in the car was from the radio since I had turned up the volume a bit more so we could hear it.

Once we arrived back at her house, I was able to park across the street instead of down the street since her dad wasn’t set to come home for another couple hours or so. I was tempted to ask Gabrielle if I could come in for a bit if I parked my car down the street, but I decided against it. Since I probably wasn’t going to get to see her tomorrow so I wanted to spend extra time with her today, but I felt that maybe she just wanted some time to herself for awhile to think about something else besides tomorrow.

I think even me just being her reminded her about tomorrow and it was probably stressing her out. I leaned over to her seat to give her a quick kiss before smiling at her as she got out of the car. I watched as she headed up her driveway and into her house before I drove out of the spot I was parked in and then headed out of the neighborhood.

Once I was back in my aunt’s neighborhood, I drove up to her house and I was confused to see another car in the driveway, blocked my fro parking where I usually do. I ended up having to park my car on the side of the road like I usually did when I went to Gabrielle’s, and then I got out of the car.

When I walked into the house, I went into the living room first and saw my aunt on the couch with none other than my hockey coach. I dropped my keys onto the little decoration table, causing them to make a loud noise which accomplished my goal of having them both turning around and seeing that I was home.

“Hey Harry,” my coach said to me.

“Hey,” I said back, still awkwardly standing at the entrance of the living room. “Harry, Ben is in the kitchen drawing and stuff if you want to go join him,” my aunt said, obviously trying to get me out of the living room.

“Okay,” I said, just go with what she told me instead of making some smart aleck comment to piss her off right now, I really didn’t want to stay in here anyway. The thought of my coach and my aunt together just made me cringe, but she was happy so I wasn’t going to show my disgust and slight irritation. I left the living room and headed into the kitchen where Ben was hanging out since he was obviously removed from the living room as I was.

“Hey buddy,” I said to Ben as I walked in, ruffling his hair as I sat down on the barstool next to him.

“They told you to go to the kitchen too?” he asked me.

“Yep,” I answered as I got up to grab a bottle of water from the fridge.

“I’m just happy you got back from taking Gabrielle home, because I was getting bored in here all by myself,” he told me.

“You like Gabrielle though, right?” I asked him, just needing assurance that he didn’t dislike her.

“Yeah, I’ve always liked her. I like that she’s your girlfriend now too because then I get to see her more,” he said.

“She said she was my girlfriend?” I asked him, not really giving much thought to what I asked.

“She didn’t say she wasn’t. I asked her and she didn’t say no,” Ben told me and I just nodded.

I knew Gabrielle and I were together, but we hadn’t really discussed labels, but I guess she was my girlfriend. I smiled a bit to myself as I sat back down next to Ben and began to help him color the picture he had drawn.
