I woke up in the morning to the light from the sun shining though my blinds. I slowly sat up, and looked at the time. I smiled to myself when I remembered that it was finally the weekend and I hadn’t needed to walk up to an alarm clock. It also meant my dad was going to be home for most of the day.
He actually made it to some of my practice yesterday, and I had finally remembered my music, which helped. Friday’s were the days my dad would drive me, so he made sure I had what I needed to play the music while I skated.
I pulled the covers off of me, and got myself out of bed. I left my room, and quickly made my way down the stairs. I went into the kitchen, following the aroma of bacon and pancakes, my usual Saturday morning breakfast.
“Good morning,” I chirped as I walked over to the kitchen counter to sit down at my usual barstool.
“Good morning Gabi, how’d you sleep?” my dad asked me.
“Pretty good,” I answered.
“When did you get home last night?”
“Around eleven I think,” he told me,
“I checked your math by the way, good job on it,”
“Thanks,” I said.
“Oh and before I forget to tell you, Bella’s mother called this morning. She want’s you to go with Bella to take her little brother somewhere, I forgot,” he told me as he flipped the pancakes on the griddle.
“Bella will be here to pick you up in about two and a half hours,” he informed me.
“Okay, why do they want me to come though? Just asking,”
“She knew you both wanted to go to the new shopping outlets, but some work came up so she thought it’d just be easier to have you stay with Bella until she was ready to take you both to the outlets,” he told me.
“Okay, makes sense I guess,”
“Here,” my dad told me as he put some pancakes and a few strips of bacon onto a plate for me.
“Eat up, and then go get ready,” he told me.
“Okay,” I said, and, and did as he told me to do, and ate the pancakes and bacon that had been placed in front of me.
After I finished eating, I put my plate in the sink, and headed back upstairs to get dressed. I went into my closet, and picked out a pear of jeans, and a cream colored sweater, along with my brown, riding style boots.
Once I had my clothes laid out on my bed, I went into my bathroom to brush my hair and teeth, do my makeup, and any other things I felt the need to do to get ready. I looked in the mirror one more time and brushed through my hair before setting the brush back down, and leaving the bathroom.
I grabbed my purse that was sitting on top of my dresser, and put my phone and a few other things in it before heading out of my room. I check the time on my phone once I’m down the stairs to see that I had about forty-five more minutes until Bella would come to pick me up.
My dad and I decided to watch the news on TV for a bit until Bella arrived. I wasn’t exactly a big fan of watching the news every morning like my dad was, but he enjoyed it on his day off so I wasn’t going to complain.
After watching the news for a while, I soon heard the doorbell ring, and I got up from the couch and grabbed my purse, knowing it was Bella at the door. I opened the front door to see Bella standing there holding her little brothers hand.
“Hey,” I said after I opened the door.
“Hey,” Bella said back.
“Hi Gabi,” Bella’s little brother Sam said to me.
I greeted him back, and then told my dad that I was headed out. He answered back with an okay, and then I closed the door and took out my keys to lock the door.
“Ready?” Bella asked once I slipped my keys back in my purse.
“Yep,” I said.
“Okay, you can just go ahead and get in the passenger seat, I need to help Sam with his car seat,” Bella told me.
“Okay,” I said, and got into the front passenger seat once Bella unlocked the car.
Once Bella had Sam buckled up in his car seat in the back seat, she closed the door and then got into the drivers seat.
“I’m surprised your mom is letting you drive her car,” I said once Bella began backing out of the driveway.
“Yeah, me too. She just had me and Sam ride with her to work this morning, and then gave me the car to come pick you up and take Sam to his daycare place, and then come pick her up when she calls and she’ll take us to the outlets,” she explained to me.
“So what are we going to do while Sam is at daycare?” I asked her.
“Oh we have to stay with him,” Bella told me.
“We do? That’s not much of a daycare,”
“Well it’s not necessarily daycare, it’s more of place for kids to make more friends and stuff like that, a kid hang out place,” Bella explained.
“I still don’t get why we have to stay,” I told her.
“To encourage the kids to talk and play with each other. It’s really a place where kids who are shy go to make friends. Sam has grown out of being shy, but he still likes to go,” Bella said.
“Well, okay then,” I said and rested my elbow on the armrest next to my seat.
Bella continued to drive until she arrived in the parking lot of what looked like a five story, light brown building. Bella pulled into a parking spot, and then took the keys out of the car.
“We’re here," Bella announced, and unbuckled her seat belt, I did the same, and got out of the car.
I walked over to the other side of the car where Bella was unbuckling Sam’s seatbelt, and waited for them both. Once she lifted him out of his car seat and onto the ground, and then closed the car door. Bella locked the car, and then the three of us headed up to the entrance.
I followed Bella and her brother up to the front desk inside the building. Bella wrote something down on a clipboard that was set out, probably having to sign us in, and then the lady behind the desk handed us some name tags and a black marker. Bella took the tags, and handed one to me as she wrote her name and then Sam’s name onto the tag.
She handed me to marker as she peeled the sticker off the paper and stuck it onto Sam’s green sweater, and then stuck hers on her shirt. I wrote me name on mine and then put it on my sweater. I continued to follow Bella and her brother down a hall until we reached a door.
We walked into a bright, colorful room filled with kids running around, and sitting at tables drawing and playing kids. Looking at these kids you’d never know that they came here because they were shy and didn’t have a ton of friends.
By the time we walked in, Sam had already run off with another little boy that had approached him, I figured that was one of the friends he’d made here.
“So what do we do now?” I asked Bella.
“Well we can’t really leave, so we basically just stay here and watch Sam,” she told me, and I just nodded.
I looked around the room we were in, and watched all the kids playing with each other, when I looked over at the entrance door, I noticed it being opened and someone walking in. I was shocked to see who the person walking in was. I almost didn’t recognize him with his hair pulled back in a beanie. He had a younger boy who looked about Sam’s age walking in with him.
The difference with the boy and Sam though was that instead of running off with some friends, he just stayed next to Harry, holding onto his hand. I nudged Bella’s arm, and once I had her attention, I subtly pointed over in the direction I was looking in.
“Oh my God,” she said once she realized what I was trying to bring her attention to.
