I woke up early the next morning to the sound of my alarm clock going off. I groaned and lazily stuck my arm out onto my bedside table to hit the alarm off. After staying in bed for a few more minutes, I finally decided that I needed to fully get up. I threw the warm covers off of be, instantly wanting to cover myself back up with them once the cold air reached me, but I knew that I really had to get up. If I wanted to see my dad this morning I had too get up and get ready quicker than usual.
On Thursday’s he has to go into work earlier than usual, Bella and her mom take me to the rink on any day he has to work early. I really just wanted to go see him before he leaves and then get ready, but he won’t tolerate that. He want’s me to be ready ahead of time and always be ahead of schedule. I grabbed the clothes that I had set out last night, and quickly stripped from my pajamas to put on the yoga pants and Nike shirt. I stepped into the bathroom that was connected to my room, and flipped on the switch to light the room.
I grabbed my toothbrush from the cup I had it in, put toothpaste on the brush, and began to quickly brush my teeth with one hand as I used the other to brush my hair. Once I was finished, I grabbed a hairband to pull my hair back, and then put on just a little bit of makeup. I switched the light off as I stepped out, and picked up my shoes and skating bag.
I headed out of my room, and quickly jogged down the stairs, hoping my dad was still here. I hadn’t heard the front door open or close, so I suspect that’s a good sign. I skipped the last step, and hopped onto the floor and walked as fast as I could over to the kitchen were my dad usually is in the mornings. As I neared the kitchen, I smiled when I heard the sound of the coffee maker filling up a cup with the beverage. The back of my dad soon came into view as I stepped into the kitchen.
“Good morning,” I said, as I grabbed his cup off the platform of the coffee maker to give to him.
“Good morning Gabi,” he said and as he took the cup from my hand to pour it into his to go cup.
“Ready to skate today?” he asked me.
“Of course,” I answered.
“Great. Now I’m either going to be back from work earlier or later than normal,” he told me.
“How come?” I asked.
“Well we have something going on and they may or may not need me to be a part of it. Either way, ask Bella if they could give you a ride home today, it’ll just make things easier,” he told me.
“Okay,” I said and grabbed a cup of yogurt from the fridge.
“So how’d your math home work go last night?” he asked me, “Sorry I couldn’t help,”
“You’re fine, I ended up finishing all of it,” I told me.
“Good for you. You can just set it out on the counter after I leave and I’ll check it when I get home okay?” he said to me.
“Okay,” I said back. After a few minutes passed, I finished my yogurt, and my dad began getting all of his stuff together.
“I should probably get going, call me if you need anything, and let me know if Bella’s mom can drop you off after practice again today,” my dad told me as he picked up his coffee and briefcase.
“Okay,” I said, “Bye,” I told him, he returned with a ‘bye’ and a wave before walking out of the kitchen and to the front door.
Once I heard the door open and close and the click of the lock, I left the kitchen and walked over to the living room. I plopped myself down on the couch and turned on the TV for a while. Bella and her mom probably wouldn’t be here to get me for another hour. After my dad leaves on Thursday mornings is when I start to get really bored. By now I’m to awake to go back to sleep, and there’s hardly anything good on TV at this hour, so these are the times when I’m usually pretty bored.
After what seems like hours have passed of watching the news, I finally hear doorbell ring, and I’m positive that it’s Bella. I turned off the TV and got up from the couch as I grabbed my skating bag having already put my shoes on a few minutes ago. I grabbed my phone and keys off the coffee table and turned of the light before heading to the front door. I opened up the door to of course reveal Bella standing on the other side.
“Ready?” she asked once she saw that I had opened the door.
“Yeah,” I said and stepped onto the porch where she was and closed the door behind me.
I locked the door with my key and then slid it into my bag as I followed Bella to the driveway where her mom was parked. We both got into the car, and Bella’s mom greeted me, to which I had replied, and then she backed out of the driveway. As she was driving to the rink I had asked her what my dad wanted me to which was if she could give me a ride home.
She told me she could, but of course Bella wanted to know why I had needed the ride. So basically the whole way there, which wasn’t a very long way, I was telling her about why my dad needed them to give me a ride. I also told them that they should I expect me to need a ride pretty much the rest of the week, I added that because even though he didn’t say it, I knew it would end up being true.
Bella’s mom finally had to cut us off from complaining about my dad though, and I was happy she did. Don’t get me wrong, I love my dad and I love spending time with him, sometimes if just feels like all he cares about right now is his work and making sure I’m the best ice skater. After a few more minutes passed, Bella’s mom finally drove up to the rink.
“You both have fun skating, I’ll be back in a few hours,” Bella’s mom told us as we got out of the car.
We both just nodded and waved to her as we got out of the car.
“So do you want to come skate on my rink with me for awhile since your practice time doesn’t start for awhile?” Bella offered as we walked inside the building.
“Sure, I’m probably going to get something from the snack bar and let you practice your routine and everything first, and then I’ll come out to your rink,” I told her.
“Okay, see you then,” she told me, and we both headed our in the direction of where we were currently going.
The cup of yogurt that I had had for breakfast wasn’t enough, so I felt I needed to get something else to eat before I skate. I headed over to the snack bar, and thankfully hardly anyone was there. I hadn’t expected a bunch of people to be there anyway, because it’s still pretty early for the rush of younger kids and teens to come to the rink. I walked up to the snack bar, and ordered a turkey wrap. The guy behind the counter got my food, and set it on the counter as I handed up the amount of money I owed. Once he gave me my change, I picked up the wrap and headed to one of the tables to sit and eat. I grabbed my water bottle out of my bag to set on the table before I started eating.
