Her and Him

I'm lonely, if you couldn't tell.

3. Empty

Her heart wasn't where it should be,
her chest empty, like a hollow chasm
that echoed her every pained scream.
He clutched it tightly               in a balled fist,
hoping her screams would stop soon
as it beat gently on his palm, in time
        with his broken pulse.
She waited patiently for him to reciprocate,
for the match in pulse seemed like a sign,
but he left her laying there, tear-stained,
open chested,
wishing to be accepted and saved.
No more than a chasm,
                      waiting to be filled.
