Falling Friendship

Alice Arbler and Santana Swent have been BFFs for nine years! When 6th grade comes they expect it to be the same: them being BFFs. But sudden changes in the summer tell them nothing is going to be the same. Alice and Santana must find pathways that don't connect. But each time they think they did, everything crashes and they have to start over again. Everyone they like seems to like everyone the other girl likes. Can they find a social life by the end of the school year? Or will they be doomed to spend the rest of the middle school life unsteady and on a rocky road?

Alice gave me a look of sheer hate.

"Alice, is everything OK?" I ask.

"YES, I mean, yes. Totally fine, never better. Don't worry, I'm just a bit nervous. That's all." Alice shoots a cheesy smile.

"Well... Don't be." I say and look out the window at the huge campus approaching us.

"We're here!" Mrs. Arbler sings. Alice and I grab our bags. Her's is a new messenger bag that's colored indigo with neon orange stripes. Mine is new too. It's purple with lots of kinds of flowers on it. We say goodbye to Mrs. Arbler and run to the field to wait for the bell.

"SANTANA!" someone says my name and emerges from the crowd.

"BRITTANY!" I squeel, "This is Alice Arbler, she's been my friend since age one!" I introduce my BFF to my new friend. Alice runs over to a girl with the coolest headband!

"Santana, meet Bella, Bella, meet Santana!" Alice says trying to make us all chummy with each other.

"Um, hi?" I say. Why don't I like Alice's friend? We're best friends. We have the same tastes! Or do we...
