"Coach Karren got MAD at us for winning! She said I didn't even try! And now everyone hates me 'cause she didn't let us have the pizza party she promised!" Alice complained to me on the bus ride to Camp Blue Bay.
"Nobody hates you, Al. Here have a marshmallow." I say holding our a fluffy, white, sugary marshmallow. My mom always packs us marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers. She's in charge of desert and Alice's mom was in charge of lunch. This time she packed us cheddar mac&cheese shaped like wild animals, to get us into the wildlife mood. But Alice and I always ended up eating desert first, somehow...
"OK campers! Settle down. I'm Amber, the head of the bunk called the Dog house. I'm gonna go over the bunks! But before I do, I'm just gonna go over a few things with you. There are two bunks per age group. The two bunks for the kiddies aka the seven year olds are the Beach Bunnies and the Dog House (that's with me). In the Beach Bunnies: Marcy Nitt, Helen Myers, Rachel Roufus, Adiline Potter and Willa Car-ci-li-on, is that how you say it, Willa?" Amber pauses.
"Yes, it is." replies Willa, a girl with short brown hair, in a bob and green eyes who was sitting behind us.
Amber continues, "Beach Bunnies, your bunk head is my sister, Andrea. And the kiddies in the Dog House are Marcia Wollup, Danielle Davis, Avery Tomson, April Maysville, and Bethany Snich." Amber went on and on until she got to the Hikers aka the ten year olds. "The two bunks are the River Riders and the Lake Lassoers," she paused dramatically. Alice and I exchange
glances, we had always been together and we planned to be in the river riders this year, together. We had been in the Brown Bears and the Friendly Fish together in the past. "River
Riders, your bunk head in Talia. OK, the River Riders are... Santana Swent, Destiny Silver, Jewel Orlando, Amy Dwiget, and... A-" Alice and I hold our breath. "-Manda Adsley. The Lake Lassoers's bunk head is Elizabeth Rund. Lake Lassoers are Alice Arbler, Grace Conrad, Sarah Ida Smith, Opal Maskert, and Megan Horn." Amber keeps going but I don't hear her. My brain is thinking so hard, it's practically boiling! I look over at Alice, her face is turning a definite shade of brown: a mix of green envy and red anger. Alice looks back at me.
"Sorry." I mouth and shrug my shoulders. Alice sticks her chin up and turns to look out the window. When I tap her on the shoulder, she doesn't budge. Oh no, Alice is a mad bull.
