Falling Friendship

Alice Arbler and Santana Swent have been BFFs for nine years! When 6th grade comes they expect it to be the same: them being BFFs. But sudden changes in the summer tell them nothing is going to be the same. Alice and Santana must find pathways that don't connect. But each time they think they did, everything crashes and they have to start over again. Everyone they like seems to like everyone the other girl likes. Can they find a social life by the end of the school year? Or will they be doomed to spend the rest of the middle school life unsteady and on a rocky road?

  "Ma, I'm home!" I call.

Soccer practice was awful, Couch Karren spent the whole time yelling at me to 'step it up' a bit. I just wanted to come home and relax. So you'd imagine that when I saw Santana sitting there at the dining room table, I was a bit frustrated.

"Oh, hi Santana." I added in a sorrowful tone.

Until I remembered that today I was planning the schedule with Santana. I was embarrassed though, looking like I ran through a hurricane. Santana looked like herself: nice. She has smooth brown hair and dark green-brown eyes. She usually finds a way to add purple in her day and today she was was wearing a  purple tank top that said Whoooo's Crazy 4 You? With a little owl on it.

How was soccer practice?" Santana asks.

"It was OK, Coach Karren wanted me to 'step it up' a bit. We have a game next Saturday. Come, let's go upstairs and plan our schedules." I suggest. I give mom a look, like she's my watch and I'm looking at her, trying to figure out what time it was, and then I figure out I'm late for something. But, it looked like I was embarrassed.

Santana and I head upstairs.

"Did you bring your BFF notebook?" I ask when we get to my room.

"I sure did!" she said waving a rainbow Composition notebook in the air. I held up my matching one.

"OK, I just need to get changed." I explain while pulling out an indigo tunic and a pair of yellow yoga pants.
