THREE MONTHS LATER:
AMBER’S POINT OF VIEW:
I sat in my chair and patiently waited for Louis. He had been visiting me every day since I moved to the “center”. Here they help people with memory loss. Something I’ve grown quite familiar with over the past few months.
I saw him enter through the door and wide smile on his face when he saw me, he walked over and took a seat next to me and the table.
“How’s our patient doing today? Any other triggers this morning?”
By triggers, he meant things that “triggered” a memory. It’s been happening every day now. Any little thing I see could help me remember something from my past and slowly, Louis has been helping me piece it back together.
“This morning I was choosing an outfit, and this one,” I indicated the clothes I was wearing, “Made me think of my friend Melissa from home. When did I see her last?”
“About 6 months ago, you went to go visit her.”
I nodded in understanding.
I knew a lot now. Within the first week I was told about my family. I didn’t talk to anyone the week after. I just sat in my hospital room staring at the wall in front of me, but Louis still came by and still would talk to me. Finally I pulled myself out of the gloom and depression and after that Louis began to tell me stories. Stories of my past. He always seemed to be leaving out little bits, but I figured that was to make it easier for me to understand.
I found out just a few weeks ago that Louis was my cousin. They thought I would be upset, but honestly I was ecstatic, I trusted Louis a lot, so the fact that I was related to him didn’t scare me, but excited me.
Once Louis, brought his friends to visit me. He always talks about how there are four of them, but only three came. One was Liam who was very sweet and caring. Another Niall, who could make me laugh almost as much as Louis, and then Zayn, who was just so easy to talk to. I really enjoyed their company.
A doctor came over and began to talk to Louis so I got up from my seat and went to get something to read. I had already finished all the books on the shelf so I grabbed a magazine hoping to catch up on what was happening in the world. I went back and sat down in my seat once more. The doctor had left so I handed Louis one of the magazines I had grabbed and we both started to flip through them.
I was reading a large article about Justin Bieber and how he’s been “getting himself into trouble” when a strong breeze came in through a nearby window and blew the pages of magazine flipping them till it landed on a random one. I sighed, a bit annoyed, and was about to turn back to my article. Until a certain picture caught my attention.
“Hm?” he looked up from his magazine.
